I'd got to the point I knew it was one of the creators of the C programming language and got the Bell Labs stuff (so much stuff in computer science came out of there) and knew I'd probably read the guy's name somewhere before but couldn't remember it. It did ring a bell when I found out.

Obviously you know a lot more about it than me, so it was a real voyage of discovery - took about 70 guesses to work out it was a computer scientist, another 50 or so to find out that his death had been overshadowed by Steve Jobs which placed the era, I spent a while wrongly guessing he might have invented MS-DOS before the lack of Microsoft mentions torched that one and with it all my knowledge of the topic. I eventually managed to fluke his name by typing in about 50 surnames beginning with R until it came up (by this point I was in it until death do us part), and then guessed first names beginning with D after that, ending up at 317. I have now heard of Unix, so the journey was worth it.
