I’ve never heard it mentioned until a few years ago on Sky and we’ve had pit stops a lot longer than that. Has Murray Walker ever uttered the word?

Dave Moffit - extensive injuries - described as being in a serious but stable condition

Different breed the TT lot.

Fun fact: I was meant to go to the TT about ten years ago. My cousin hired a plane to take four of us over but after we took off we got an alarm on the landing gear so we had to circle back. We landed fine but it was certainly an experience coming in to the runway and seeing an ambulance and fire engine bolting along to meet us.

I really struggle with the modern day wacky races side of things, and safety cars, the whose-fault-is-it back and forth when anyone goes off track, drivers bitching at each other, etc. I just want to watch racing on racing circuits. The Americans really couldn’t give a fuck about good circuits and tradition. No doubt another street circuit in some questionable state will step in.

Anyway, I see the noise from drivers about porpoising is really heating up today. I am firmly in the camp that says the FIA shouldn’t do anything because the teams can easily fix it but Horner is already bleating so let’s fucking do this. I’d be happy for the FIA to relinquish whatever credibility it has left to send that cunt over the edge.

Ben

They'll need time to find a new sponsor to replace Sofina. The Latifi's bring a lot of money into that team.

Ben
16-06-2022, 07:54 PM
Merc have proper fucked themselves. They've repeatedly called for FIA to do something about porpoising expecting them to standardise ride height or something but instead they've said they're just going to measure vertical movement, essentially forcing Mercedes into making their car shitter, and the smoother cars like the ominous Bull can just proceed as they are.

Disco

I was half expecting a coded message to Sainz to send a highly risky one up the inside into the last chicane. A couple of times he was close enough that he could have had a lunge. If Max is thinking about the driver's championship, he gets out of the way. If Max fights it, there's a big chance of a double DNF for Red Bull which helps Ferrari in both championships.

Yep. Electric sports car range remains piss poor and wildly effected by pace/weather.

John Arne

Yep. Running on a hot day wipes your range out.

Is that because more energy is needed to cool the car or simply the battery isn't as efficient when warm?

Shindig
27-06-2022, 08:21 AM
In an electric vehicle, the cooling system is regulating the temperature of the battery pack and some of the electronics. Most electric vehicles use a cooling loop. This loop usually contains an ethylene glycol coolant. The coolant is circulated through the batteries and some of the electronics, using an electric pump.

That probably suggests that it's both.

Safety car cut his chances.

If no safety car, he was likely battling LeClerc at the death as Sainz was having to fuel save.

Once the safety car happened, Perez was brought back into it and he, Hamilton and LeClerc all squabbled while Sainz drove off up the road to win.

Hamilton has definitely had the short end of the incident luck this year. Every time he gets himself into a reasonable offset position someone breaks down and fucks him over. So in investigating all aspects of the porpoising going on, the FIA have found that some teams are actually flexing the floor/plank way above their intended margin. The teams haven't done anything wrong technically, but it's another one of those 'rules as written' vs 'rules as intended' arguments.

The teams involved are believed to be Red Bull and Ferrari. All teams have been given until the French GP to conform too.

There's potential that Hamilton getting a bad back in Baku could lead to Mercedes being a front runner again, assuming the Red Bull/Ferrari fixes slow the car down a bit.

Ben
07-07-2022, 09:02 PM
Yeah I saw this the other day. It’s a really clever workaround to be honest but as you said, Ferrari and Red Bull seem to be the worst offenders.
