View Full Version : Should TTH require registration to view?
A few people mentioned this in the other thread, so a vote is probably the best way to decide.
The upsides to requiring registration are obvious (increased privacy, etc). The downsides are:
The forums ability to email breaks periodically with no warning. Which means there are long periods where registration is effectively closed. Not a huge problem, but it does effectively close the forum completely.
If we hide the forum to non-registered users, this includes search engines. It means that eventually, you'll no longer be able to search TTH using Google (which is something I do a lot).
Following on from that, it also means people are much less likely to stumble upon the forum, basically closing off any chance of new registrations
What's the verdict?

It's a leave open for me. It'd be quite funny if something (Lewis) posted here went viral and we were invaded by Twitterati, and, like the 300, I reckon we'd win.
In fact, we should engineer that. Who has the most Twitter followers likely to be OFFENDED?

I reckon leave it open, but it has served as a reminder to me I should probably be a bit more careful what I post.

I don't mean this in the way that it may come across (like a massive dig, which it isn't meant to be), but if you need to watch what you post then the doomsday clock is ticking on all forms of conversation.

If it’s left open (which I expect will be the most popular option by a huge margin) then there should be the option to blanket delete your entire posting history when closing your account.
If it has the above effect on dildoboy, definitely keep it open.

By this place's standards, sure. But I'm sure I've made stupid comments/jokes which the GMC wouldn't like very much sans the understanding of the context of TTH.
Depends if you think my return is complete one-off or there's a genuine opportunity to get new members.
Although how do you sell this place to potential new blood?

It's been open for absolutely years without attracting any attention at all from the outside internet, so I'd say it's pretty safe to leave it open. The only real risk is getting ratted out in the real world by an existing TTHer, and I'd say you'd have to do something to them of at least equal damage first for them to bother.
Does Henry still have a grudge with Baz? He could be fucked if we win big.
