This thread inspired by inexplicably finding myself with this song in my head this morning, which led me to Google it, and, wow, the horror. I seem to remember it being a huge hit at the time, as well.

By 'Terrible Things From The Past' I am of course not looking for lists of historical massacres, or even the time your uncle touched you at a fireworks display, but cultural artefacts such as the above which are TERRIBLE but may have seemed relatively normal or at least acceptable at the time.

I kinda like it but I think it's maybe just cause I like the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

Also had to look up what it was to the tune of because I knew it was something familiar but couldn't place it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Millennium_Prayer "Songwriters: Jesus" :D

Christ there's a lot to unpack in that one.

The hair, the trousers, the size of your fucking ears...

The 90s and early 2000s were a weird time for music, where novelty songs seem to be a gauranteed number 1. Didn't the Teletubbies theme song get to number 1, for fuck sake?

It is the only single that credits Jesus as a lyricist

:D

Very Greg Norman vibes from toddler spikey.

The Millennium Prayer was not considered either normal or acceptable at the time, but rather a source of great shame as we collectively circled the cultural plughole.

Although dreadful No.1 records [and specifically those that thwarted far superior works] is probably a standalone topic in itself.

Future Manlet if ever I've seen one.

I have grown into the ears. I probably still haven't grown into the trousers.

Little Britain actually coined a derogatory term, which is quite something.

'Ting Tong'

I've never seen or heard this used.

It was used by some politician once, back in the good old days when there was only one scandal a week.

The ears are normal. It is the size of the head that is the issue.

Well when he says he's grown into the ears I just assumed he meant the ears had shrunk.

What the hell is all that about?

A UKIP MEP, naturally.

Before googling it I was thinking it might have been that laughable quote by an MP during the Change UK - The Independent Group launch (remember them), but in fact that one was the alphabetically similar 'funny tinge' to describe non-white people.

Amazing to think the BBC kept greenlighting those stunts. It took a death for them to stop. The crowd laughter is the best/worst part.

He could have been our President Trump, and then my joke about Noel's House Party being cancelled because 'Crinkly Bottom' offended Muslims would have had the honour of been FACT CHECKED by a load of idiots.

Sir Andy Mahowry

Has Mr Van Den Bos been seen since being buried by Cheggers and Noel?

Jimmy Floyd
15-02-2022, 06:59 PM
You could tell it was being referred to as 'an entertainment show' that riled Noel up, he didn't give a shit about the bungalow.

Shindig

He's mad as hell and he's not gonna take it any more.

He's very into homeopathy. And openly approaching quiz show contestants for sex.

Lofty

He was endorsing some kind of magic box that cured cancer.

Jimmy Floyd

Watching through a few Noel clips, there is a definite kinship between him and Richard Keys. It's hackneyed now to call it Partridge and anyway, I think Partridge is much more likeable than either of these two. There's obviously something about being entrusted with major TV presenting that leads this certain type of man to a very particular kind of self-absorbed pathos, or not pathos actually, let's just call it delusion.
