The refs are completely bent in this game - not in big ways, just with all the little things. The pro's bent performance.

Ideally out the club and in the jail if he's done it, which presumably it's pretty much definite if there are voice recordings.

This could be a Yorkshire CCC type scandal. It happened at Middlesbrough a couple of years ago; instead of stringing up Darren Randolph, we shipped him back to West Ham and they buried it (the Tweets will still be up about a "medical investigation" before they agreed to signing him back).

Possibly. Think there are a few things (including race) that could get in the way of it unfolding across the sport with unstoppable momentum - too many people have too much money to lose. But even if it stays confined to United and Greenwood, it will be a serious of test of the hyper-corporate PR operation that has dragged them through the last 25 years.

Greenwood is/was a £50 million asset for United. There is no world in which a story like this comes to United executives some time ago and they don't choose the £50 million on the balance sheet over some young woman's welfare. No world whatsoever.

It's surely a given that this sort of thing gets routinely covered up in football. Rugby players are constantly being accused of battering/molesting women, and the player demographics are roughly the same (better if you figure part of this comes from a culture of entitlement). They just don't have the resources to make it go away so it gets out there.

It's just so ingrained in them to go down under any sort of shove.

This pitch looks awful. Can't tell whether that, or the ability of the players is the major contributing factor to most games being such shitfests. Obviously a duel of North African nations is only ever going to go one way, but it'd be nice to see the occasional piece of quality.

I think it probably has. Proximity to high quality coaching/development environments absolutely improves the overall. It is intrinsically harder [and frankly less likely] that young Irish players will be able to go into continental set-ups, with all of the problems that would present in terms of language, culture, proximity to family etc, and have the same outcomes they get in the British system.

I don't think it's any coincidence that the top international squads are made up from players that play across numerous international leagues. Those players all have the same cultural etc. issues we and the Irish do when moving to another country.

In better news, Villa wingers running wild on latter stages of AFCON. Trez looks like he’ll be moved on, but he LOVES a big goal. Traore is just complete silk and we’ve missed him and Bailey this season. Add in Coutinho and Buendia (plus Ghazi) and the width is complete filth.

The MG stuff is truly abhorrent but without meaning to compare (I mean, you can't, can you?), I have legit found Twitter to be stomach turning today reading some of the comments and found a much larger portion of men that I would have imagined defending him, questioning the entire thing and so on to be every bit as sick as the actual act. No wonder some women feel unsafe because some of the tweets I have read....just don't seem normal yet so many posting as though what they are suggesting is actually a rational thought.

Not one to feel sick about much, the voice recording was horrific in itself but the responses....can't just say fuck football fans either as that shit is ingrained from somewhere else.

I don't think they are. He's just (probably a few hour before that quote) discovered that a man he thought was part of his family, who he has grown to trust, has in all likelihood been beating and raping his daughter. He is quite probably still trying to believe it's not true despite all evidence to the contrary. Coming to terms with something like that must be unbelievably difficult.

He of course might just be a wrong'un, but I think immediately assuming that just because he's not come out all guns blazing and calling for Greenwood to be skinned with a spoon when he's presumably been doorstepped is unreasonable.
