I was terrible at art when I was 9 years old, and I don't imagine my drawing has come on much since then. I am comically bad at it. It's the kind of thing I wouldn't mind being decent at either but I'm never going to go sit in the park drawing landscapes until they're not shit.

I would very much doubt anyone here is in the top 1% of anything. I doubt I’m in the top 20% of anything myself.
Same probably goes for bottom.

You'll be in the top 1% of something, Giggles. Even if it's being a misery arse.
With you on art. No exaggeration to say there will be toddlers better than me at drawing. My brother's really gifted too. But he's also in the top 1% of losing his hair, so lol.

Considering the population of the planet it’s very unlikely, even of that. Nobody here is with the tiny ratio of people.

Population? We're talking percentages. There's considerably more than 100 activities/whatever, so chances are you'll be in the top 1% for at least one of them, however mundane.

There’s on a chance one of the 20 or so people here is in the top 1% of any talent no matter what it is, or bottom. Even on the art thing, once you cover all the people with no arms or no sight or no motor skills or whatever, you’re probably outside that bottom 1% even before too get to all the cunts who are just plain worse than you.

Giggles, you're being a spastic again. Anything you're interested in you're probably in that bracket. I'd be fairly certain you're in the top 1% of slow cooker chefs and Kiko harrassers.

I'd say I'm not even in the top 1% of people at those in the province here. Apart from the rarest of occasions, no matter what you do you'll always find people better at it. It's the main reason I would never engage others about the likes of brewing.

I'm 17th in European Tour fantasy golf this year (from about 50,000 players) with one tournament to go, which puts me in the top 0.003% (or maybe 0.03%, I'm no good at decimal places). Top 1% is for the mediocre.

A couple of times people have asked, I am terrible at any sort of writing though. Was first asked about 10 years ago when I posted on a fantasy football forum, should have probably said yes as now there are loads of people working full time on FF websites, podcasts, YouTube etc making a decent wage.

Using the among everyone threshold means that you are at the top 1% of any activity that less than 80 million people do. That would make Pleb a top 1% haxball player, or Quincy a top 1% amateur pizza maker, and we can all see how ridiculous those two sound. The among those who do the activity is the much better, and much harder threshold. I am with Giggles on this one. It is unlikely that many of us are top 1% at anything. Not impossible, mind, as a few posters have already shown.
I am a top 3% Street Fighter 5 player, apparently.
That would make Pleb a top 1% haxball player
I'd question whether he's even top 100%.

I did a formal Mensa IQ when I was at high school because a teacher (who was in Mensa) thought I might score highly enough to join. I did the test because I was curious what my IQ was but I didn't join.
That being said all IQ tests look at different things and will score you differently, but I scored in the top 1% on that particular one.

Back when I lived in Guernsey I tried to conquer my fear of it. I had my mate with me ready to dive in and a friend on the shore recording the whole thing for proof. It took me ages to build up the courage to do so and just before we did, my Canadian friend spotted a pink Jelly fish and said "OMG we're going to get Steve Irwin'ed" right as I was ready to leap which made me laugh but that was a huge mistake because I was now in the water, laughing but feeling my lungs close in on me so the experience was worse than it needed to me.
Now given what we have learned about sewage being released, it's not that bad a fear to know that I haven't been swimming in shit for years. Shame too because there's some lovely spots in Cornwall if I was inclined.

I don't understand the game at all and have never played so I don't know if I would be terrible or not, the part that puts me off is it looks like you'd need to be eased into it by someone with experience and I a) hate losing and b) there is no guarantee I'd enjoy it so that's why I prefer checkers. Not that I've played that in donkey's either but you know.

Chess is a brilliant game, it has that universally perfect combination of pretty simple rules with shitloads of hidden complexity and depth. It can be frustrating when you try to push on to a higher level and you basically haven't got the capacity, like me, but the joy of elo is that you can pretty much guarantee playing similar level people.
It's also surprisingly easy to develop from knowing the rules and fools mate to having basic strategic and tactical understanding. A couple of half hour youtube videos and a dozen or so games, basically.
