He is ridiculously good, I couldn't believe it when Walker-Petera was dropped for the first game of the season but it was the correct decision. He's comfortably our best player.
Just need to hope Reece James keeps cracking on so we hopefully get a couple of seasons out of him.
He has a 30 million buy back clause, he's probably already worth double that.
We just need to find a way to keep Walker-Peters happy as the last thing we want if both of them leaving and being short in a key position
If Tuchel is still there I wouldn’t be surprised if they played James as the right centre half with Livramento in front of him. England’s choice of right backs must be the best pool of players for a position ever.
£60m? He looks decent, but come on.
I don't have a clue about transfer fees these days. Maybe 60m is pushing it. We got 30m for Luke Shaw 7 or 8 years ago, Livramento is better and younger.
It's moot point though with the buyback fee. They will buy him back in the summer I'm sure.

No Matip or Mane is an odd one. I’m presuming Fabinho must be injured. The midfield for both teams is a bit tragic. All them big signings and you have Fred, Milner, Keita and McTominay playing.
Gray Fox
24-10-2021, 02:44 PM
Matip struggles with playing many games in a row. Think Ledley King, if Ledley King was actually a great player.
Mane is likely rotation but Fabs being out is a killer.

Well the usual Ole tactic is to play 9 men behind the ball but with Greenwood/Rashford playing into that gap behind the advancing fullback.
How that now works with Ronaldo and Fernandes there too is unknown.

Quite a few, even some of our own tbh after a quiet summer too but so far so good. I'm not saying we'll win the league but it's clearly going to be ourselves and City challenging, Chelsea will be a bit off in 3rd then 4th will be the standard everyone throwing it away until the last day etc.
In regards to Solksjaer, he's had time, he's had money, he's had countless opportunities and it's time for him to go but there is no quick fix for your lot. Must be tough viewing today but we threatened to spank you when we won 2-0 in our title winning season.

I'm not a Man U expert but from the outside, the decision to sign Ronaldo, more or less on a whim, looks to have been a really poor one which has upset whatever they had going, or had planned, between the young front players.
They laughed at us for suggesting it a mere 2 months ago :*) Anyways, Rashford and Sancho being retrained to become fullbacks will sort it.

They need someone to organise a defence, first and foremost. Bruce until the end of the season genuinely wouldn't be the worst idea, and would give them time to sort out a proper appointment for the summer e.g. Poch or whoever might be available.

The other problem they have is that unlike say Chelsea, the job is just too big for almost any manager. You go in there as a young upstart and you're dwarfed by all their bullshit iconography, theatre of dreams, Matt Busby, biggest club in the world etc, not to mention the presence of the Glazer money-stripping machine. Solskjaer has only lasted this long because he's just Old Trafford wallpaper with a heartbeat. You have to be a big old fish like van Gaal or Mourinho to stand a chance, and even they couldn't get it done.

You were the one with the outstanding logic of him not being a bad manager, "because you can't be if you've managed 1,000 games".
Someone who has managed a team at the top level of the game 1000 times is obviously not a bad manager. You're doing the usual "everything is easy because I understand a little about it" stick again.

I do have to hand it to Bruce in one respect, he has done an amazing job on the PR side of things.
He's done well a couple of times, but has shafted/left in the lurch numerous clubs he's been at. Despite this he gets constant support from his Man Utd and media cheerleaders for what a "great bloke" he is and he gets away with painting himself as the wronged party at Newcastle, despite making public digs at the former manager and players and trousering £8m on his exit.
It's quite brilliant really. If Sven fancies a return to management ever I'm sure he'll be asking for tips.

United have two ways of playing: on the counter against the good teams (Ronaldo is hardly a worse option here than Martial [doesn't run] or Rashford [doesn't think]), and being a rabble that waits for Bruno Fernandes to do something against everybody else. They have never looked organised at any point, and haven't beaten a side with PRESSING since those first few months where they tired themselves out by February, so this stuff about changing the way they play to accommodate him is well off, and I think a lot of it is cover for not noticing how disorganised and shit they have always been.

I think his point is more that there are managers who get themselves on the old merry-go-round and manage to milk it forever with very little actual substance to show for it and that in those circumstances longevity isn't necessarily laudable in a footballing sense, which I sort of agree with. In a way Bruce is one of those, but, at the same time, I think he did a pretty decent job at Newcastle, to the extent that he can be credited with where they ended up in the league in his two full seasons [was it]?
Doesn't mean I'd want him at United [of course I want him at United if Ole has to go].

I wouldn't really hold the clean sheets against him when we had to play Freddie Woodman for the first four. Unfortunately, we do seem to have collapses engrained in us. United under Ole have made hard work of games by shipping goals early.
I can't see Bruce playing 5 at the back for United. If he did, he'd at least have the personnel to do it instead of sticking Ritchie out there. I'd only see it on an interim basis but then that got Ole the job with his Pardewesque form feast.

The Italian journalists are really pushing the idea he'll be sacked ASAP with Conte to come in. Makes me wonder if Conte is more keen on Utd than Utd are on him.
