I took one look at him and thought, "Aye. He's due an unsuccessful stint with us. And he looks kinda like Steve Bruce now." Either him or Iron Mike Williamson. I think Temuri Ketsbaia's moment has passed. Which managers do you look at and think have the potential to be your club's next binman?

Shola. He works for the club still (I can't remember in what capacity) and has stuck up for Ashley so if he starts studying for his badges he's in.

I'm not sold on Newcastle being able to have a binman.
There needs to be sufficient disparity between the pedigree of the coach and the success/stature of the team, otherwise the binman model just becomes 95% of managerial appointments.

I think we're bound to have a moment of John Terry weakness at some point. Last year's spell with the Cech/Lampard double binman setup was pretty quality.
I'd love to see a Drogba stint but I think he's more concerned with other things. I guess he might manage the Ivory Coast.

It's all relative but I definitely put Kinnear in that camp. Possibly even Carver.
Good old Joe Kinnear. What a stint he had at Newcastle.

Harry Kane seems the type that would want to be a binman (and probably would be if he couldn't play football).
Nailed on as a future Leyton Orient manager.

Is Thierry Henry already a bin man?

Steven Gerrard probably ends up getting the Liverpool job after Klopp decides he's had enough. Does he count as a binman if he's gone and managed elsewhere first? I suppose he's actually done alright at Rangers too.

Ole Gunnarbinman had a few jobs before United, so I think so. Although Gerrard actually winning something may muddy the waters.
I think it ultimately boils down to: Would this guy have this job if he hadn't played for the club?
Solskjaer absolutely wouldn't have got the United job on the basis of some Norwegian titles and doing nothing with Cardiff.

Molde were champions under Solskjaer. And yes, 'knows the club' is the biggest factor.

Yeah surely he's safely out of binman territory.
I'd argue some coaches should have their binman titles revoked after sufficient success. E.g. Pep might have once been viewed as a binman but it quickly became clear he was a proper coach man.
Safe from binman status on the basis of one Scottish title?
Nah.

Gerrard would 100% be a binman. I didn't see Alex McLeish getting hired by Liverpool.

I think Ian nailed it with his definition and I concur, no chance Gerrard gets the Liverpool job off the back of a Scottish Title without his connection to the club.
It being club dependant seems fair. Gerrard at Rangers - not a binman; Gerrard hired tomorrow by Liverpool - binman.

I think there's something in the size of the job as well - getting hired by a big CL club on the back of playing there and not much other experience is more Binman-esque
Rooney @ Derby = fine
Rooney @ Utd = bin man
Michael Carrick when he takes over from Solksjaer = binman.
Unless there's an exception I can't think of I'd say that's covered by the 'would he have got it if he wasn't their former player?' rule.
Out the way, Kiko.

Yeah I think Rooney at Derby is a pisstake to be honest. They are in massive trouble so why they haven't got an experienced guy in to get them out of it, maybe with Rooney understudy like Terry at Villa, is beyond me. Derby should be perennial promotion hopefuls at worst, that's not really a job for someone with no CV.

Was Graeme Souness a binman?

Rooney has also just put one of their players out for three months in training.

He is having quite the week, PR wise. At this rate he will have live streamed himself pissing in Coleen's handbag by Saturday.

Imagine going into management if you had the sort of money Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard have got. Enjoy your retirement lads fucking hell.
I assume they lack the imagination to actually just enjoy all the never-having-to-work-again they could be getting on with.

Frank I think still has something to prove, especially by the sounds of anecdotes about his dad calling 8 year old Frank a cunt if he misplaced one pass out of a 1000 in the garden.
Rooney I think doesn't know what to do with himself, probably miserable stuck at home with the kids and wife given his well documented propensity for having it large and chasing skirt. Despite him having a dream career by most people's standards I always get the feeling he feels a bit unhappy with things, whether that is missed opportunities through injury or the fact he is a scouser who looks like he would be on crime watch for impersonating a gas man if he wasn't a footballer I don't know.
Most of us would be having it large in their shoes but then I suppose you don't become a top elite athlete if you are happy to sit on your arse loving life as soon as things look rosy.

Bang on. Gerrard would absolutely be a bin man if Liverpool hired him on the back of the stint at Rangers for the same reason.

And you can of course graduate from bin man to actual manager. Not many do but it is possible.

Josep 'Pep' Guardiola has done it, for one.

I don't think it counts in Spain as it happens more frequently and with better results. Maybe Zidane was a better example? Can you only be a binman in England?
Wasn't Barcelona's array of knows-the-club nobodies being appointed to try and repeat the Pep magic where this meaning for the term Binman came from?
Wasn't Tata Martino the original?

In my head it was Barca trying to repeat the Pep process, so whoever replaced him may have been the first.

Can't believe I forgot Lee Clark in all this. His stock sure has fallen since Huddersfield.
Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark has left his role as manager of Sudanese outfit Al-Merrikh.
Clark's appointment with the Sudanese title challengers raised eyebrows back in March but his North East African adventure has come to an end after three months.
Ok. It's all gone very Mick Wadsworth. On Barca, it started with Tito Vilanova for me. And I would still put Luis Enrique in binman territory.

Gerrard is an absolute nailed on binman at some point. Potentially John Terry at Chelsea as well, United really dodged a bullet when they didn't just give it to Giggs in 2014.
