View Full Version : Unfinished Business (TV)
Inspired by both mine, Baz and Ian's ineptitude in not finishing The Sopranos and in the spirit of more threads. Simply list any TV show that you threw on the scrapheap at one point or another and let your fellow man reassure/condemn your decision. No spoilers.
Series - The Sopranos
When did you stop watching - Season 2.
Why did you stop watching - Felt like too much of a slow burner with little reward. I also had little to no investment in any character other than Tony.
This may or may not have legs.
Of all the shows to give up on, you choose what's probably the most watchable (and rewatchable) show of all time. Top stuff.
I gave up on Dexter before the final season because it was horseshit.

I enjoyed the hell out of Mad Men series one and then just stopped watching in the second series. I don't think it got bad, I just never got round to picking up the rest of it.
The Sopranos, as mentioned, I would guess in season 4 or 5? I think it was probably back in the old Lovefilm days so I can only assume I wasn't into it enough to keep requesting they send me the next ones out.
I also haven't kept up with American Gods. I really want to like it but it just wasn't doing it for me. I think I might have got to the end of season 2 but I think a third is now out and I've no really enthusiasm for going back to it.
There must be others I've given up on, I'll have to have a think.

+1 for The Sopranos. Series 1. It felt extremely dated.
I recognised that reference (just about) if that helps.
Out the way, Spikey.

I've never even tried the Sopranos. That'll be one for a winter sometime.

Pick it up and pick it up now.

Sopranos is quite simply the best shit ever.
I gave up on Better Call Saul a few episodes into season 2 iirc. Was just a bit bored.

Season 3 of American Gods is a lot better than 2. Still feels like its missing something though.

I keep grinding to a halt with Better Call Saul. Idk why because it's really good.

The Americans and Person of Interest for me.
I think I've got the final series for The Americans and a few episodes for POI. Not sure why I stopped as I did like both.
Edit: Orphan Black too. I think I stopped with 2 series left to go.

My mother is like this with literally any television series which have storylines that aren't self contained to one off episodes, game of thrones and sopranos are boring but absolute wank identikit police procedurals, they're class.
She's quite happy to read novels, and I tried to explain that a lot of these #prestige TV shows are more like them, like you gotta see the episodes as more like chapters of a book than self contained short stories but such was her inability to understand what I was getting at I almost think she was just trying to wind me up.
Watched the firdt season of 24 and loved it but never even tried the second season.
You're weak. You're outta control. And you've become an embarrassment to yourself and everybody else.
The boss of this forum told you you're going to watch The Sopranos. You're watching The Sopranos. So shut the fuck up about it!

Probably a good call. It is not very good.
The Handmaid's Tale (after s2) and The Leftovers (after s2). I'd like to get back into both.

The Wire - Watched the first 10 episodes but found it monumentally boring
Game of Thrones - Watched all of the first season and a couple of episodes of the second. Was enjoying it but hated the week to week grind.

I haven't watched the last episode of the new Twin Peaks series.

People not liking The Wire genuinely blows my mind. It has everything.
The Leftovers, aptly enough I departed midway through season 2 for unknown reasons, having enjoyed it until that point. Season 3 has been brilliantly reviewed but I've never got round to it. I also had a slight problem with Nora (I think it was) whose actress got all the awards but I found the character tricky to empathise with.
It's a Sin I left after one episode (which itself was watched across five separate sessions) because I just found it too hard to watch.
I May Destroy You I have tried to start on three separate occasions and never got past 10 minutes due to not being in the mood for it. One day I will be in the mood for it.
Succession I got bang into for a few days earlier in the year, but have left it at about 5/6 episodes because every time Cousin Greg comes on screen I cringe myself into a coma, a common issue for me with TV. I'd like to get going again but that's a problem I have to get over.
I loved Succession. Can't wait for the new series.

As a twist, I kind of wish they didn't cancel PanAm. Like, it was advertised as, "Mad Men in the skies." but it was way, way dumber. :D I want resolution to the stupid spy arc with the Rebecca Adlington clone. Does a plane finally land on Christina Ricci's forehead? WE GOT NONE OF THESE ANSWERS AND IT SOMEHOW LAUNCHED MARGOT ROBBIE'S CAREER!

Karma has NPH is shilling Bit Coin now.
Silicon Valley is one I can think of. Think I’ve got one full series left, but honestly not sure. Hopefully it’s on Trakt or something. It’s an easy watch and funny in parts but not exactly amazing. I should probably finish it though, while I’m so far invested.

For those above:
The Americans last season is amazing, one of my favourite shows - go finish it.
I maintain the first season of 24 is still the best, rest goes steadily downhill (and less and less believable and more and more racist).
I finished The Leftovers, but it's definitely the only show where I seem to be the only one who doesn't "get it". None of it made any sense to me, yet everyone praises it.
For me it's Breaking Bad and The Handmaid's Tale. Breaking Bad, I found that I didn't care about any of the characters. And I just lost interest altogether in The Handmaid's Tale.
I'd counter your 24 and say s3 is the best one but I reckon s1-3 were great tv, 4-5 passable, the rest ... oh come on.
Not very re-watchable though.
