International tournaments are three/four games of football and you don't even have to win them. You wouldn't come to the same conclusions after a bottom half BPL side went on a good run mid season.

It's not a like-for-like comparison. When you refer to Greece 2004 you refer to the tournament side, who beat good teams and won the tournament during a particular time period. Not whoever and whatever they were either side of it. The bottom half side going on a run would be one of the better sides during that run, but that competition side would be measured by their season average.
