I have had so many phonecalls about the uplift being cut it's unreal. Some of them are genuine. They can't work through no fault of their own and they're in a really bad position. Others... less so, and one of the few perks of my job is asking "have you been looking for work?", because the work is out there at the moment and anyone saying otherwise is full of shit.

Bollocks. As Spikey said, right now there a lot of unskilled vacancies open. People just dont want to do the work. Before I got on the railway I was working three jobs at the same time at one point. Because I didn't have a permanent contract for the job I wanted to stay in I had to work at PC World, Waterstones and was also bartending at the same time. Sundays I worked 9-5 PC World then went home, ate and went to the bar 7-11. Clearly I should have put all my eggs in the Waterstones basket and then just wandered about helplessly if they didn't offer me a permanent contract.

Also, Khaos's mum is preggers again. She worries how she will be able to afford another child. I like to think I'm a liberal person but it really is a case study in why we might need to start sterilising people early doors.

Yeah, the 12 hours a day job searching sounds like bollocks. Or they have no idea how to look for work. When I was stuck on New Deal courses, you saw the type. People that were made redundant and pigeonholed themselves so much they would only do one job in a specialised sector and sack everything else off. "There's NOWT IN CONSTRUCTION!" was a common moan. As soon as I settled for anything, I found work and was out of there. The one thing I didn't want to settle for was benefits.

There are companies paying "signing on fees" at the moment as they're so desperate for staff. Skilled and unskilled.

At my place, the entirety of the Surveyors team has fucked off to work for mortgage companies on bumper wages. We only have 2 or 3 call centre staff left too, so have just hired 8 new ones that are currently being trained "fast track".

The economy opening up after 16 months of fuck all and the entirety of Eastern Europe leaving has this as the best time to be looking for work in I don't know how long. If you can't find work now, you just don't want to.

Exactly. I have sympathy for those in dire need but a lot of those in the article were taking the piss a bit. 62 year old made redundant reckoning he'll have to beg now.
