View Full Version : European Championship threads poll
Thought I'd better ask as I'm usually doing the football thread admin these days.
So: A thread per group and knockout stage? Or one massive bastard mess of a thread for everything?

Big fred tbh. Nobody is moving threads when a group b game follows a group a game at 3 o clock on a Tuesday.

One Fred is more than enough
No one cares about the group stages, do they?

One thread per stage. So all the group stage in one thread then a thread for each round of the knockouts.

This.
More threads. Either one thread per group or one per stage.
All in one makes it easy to drag back up in the future when we lol at Taz.

I'm going with More Fred's but the Euros format annoys me either way.

:(
But also moar freds.
Not bothered so long as there’s somewhere to post a pic of me in a beer garden not long before England kick off their first game against Croatia.

More threads is great until they're threads on the same topic, then it just disrupts the flow of posts. A thread per stage would be a bit pointless, although it could be interesting to have a poll at the end of each stage to predict the winner so I'm in favour for that alone.

We do it just like we did before.
Thread for Group stages. Thread per round (although could probably merge Semi-finals and Finals).
Individual Group threads are dogshit because the conversation gets split, the things that don't quite relate to a specific match/fixture don't have anywhere to go etc.

One thread per game for pre-match discussion (as well as any 'banter' that could come about) to be locked at kick-off; a new thread for during the game to be locked at full-time; and then a separate thread for post-match discussion and statistical analysis (strictly no 'banter', with warnings/bans handed out if necessary).
One thread is all that’s needed. What’s the point in splitting it up? It’s not like we have separate threads for European / Domestic football.

That's not how we did it last time (https://www.thethirdhalf.co.uk/showthread.php?2224-World-Cup-2018-Group-G-(BEL-ENG-PAN-TUN)), which is why I asked.
I'm happy with doing one per stage though if it's a close enough split between moar freds / one fred.
Although Lewis' idea is obviously as excellent as it is practical. Possibly a further thread per game for memes, social media posts and speculation on the sexuality of the players involved.

Yeah but those are shit.

I think I was the one that instigated the monthly threads. You're welcome. Although I'm not really sure how it's in any way better than the old one thread per competition season.

More than a thread for the whole tournament would be a good idea if it was 2008
Remember that time it got a whole sub forum.

I was also thinking a sort of 'round up' thread at the end of the week for any comebacks on previous threads that new statistical information/insights might enable.
Why don't we reuse the last tournament thread

Whatever we do, it should be referred to as Euro 2021.
I was thinking "Euro 2020(1) Supersized City Tournament thread" as a name or something along those lines.

Pleb's onto something. I think Pleb and Welby should co-host the Euro threads and coordinate a live recap of events every night at 10pm accompanied by two pundits out of Jermaine Jenas, Jens Lehmann, Paul Ince and Jose Mourinho.
Lewis

Alternatively, Pleb and Webly (Plebly) could livestream the games and commentate.

2010 subforum.
I think that was my gateway drug to TTH.
Jermaine Jenas, Jens Lehmann, Paul Ince and Jose Mourinho.
If it's a big tournament pundit we need one who speaks incomprehensible English.

Besides, saint's more of a tactics truck type. The 2021 Olympics is happening as well. Should we have a new thread for every event?
