I dislike fireworks, but I've just discovered there's something quite magical about standing on a balcony, on your own, without a human figure in sight, watching thousands of the fuckers go off all around you. Just the same as although I didn't partake in the NHS clapping, hearing it happening for miles around you was a lovely thing. Humanity functions.
