View Full Version : December football: Who's most out of place?

This game has been 90 minutes long and at least 25 of them have been Kurt Zouma pondering with the ball at his feet.

Gah, I have watched 3 hours of seriously dreadful football this evening. We are not the same side without our wide players, all of whom (Pulisic, Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi) are injured. Pulisic in particular has reached the point where his fitness record stops being unlucky and starts being pretty unacceptable.
Our man Harvey is tearing up the Championship at 17. It makes me sick to see it but an England side with him, Jones and Foden is looling pretty fucking serious for after Qatar. The latter two should be starters now tbf.

That is horrific goalkeeping.
That is horrific goalkeeping.
Guaita probably has Kane and Son in his FPL team.
I don't think I've ever seen such a routine Premier league win for Southampton. Better in every area of the pitch.
Going to be a really long season for Sheffield United. Poor at the back, not much going on in midfield and then piss poor upfront. Ramsdale was the only player to come out with any credit.
Signing Brewster for a club record fee and not playing him might be some of the worst transfer business in PL history.

And with a squad that is, on paper, better than the one that everyone was wanking themselves silly over this time last season. Football is weird.
Henderson definite big loss. Possibly O'Connell, too? It's very strange though.

Looks like we just about got a handle on the situation in the last 5 or so mins there. As bad as I've seen us up to that point. Everything to slow and sloppy.
We've been fucking disgraceful. And that muzzy learning how to dive convincingly would have VAR'd their goal off. We need a second half siege and we don't have anything on the bench to kickstart it.
Minamino has it in the locker. Believe.
We look much better. 1 goal and it'll happen but openingslook rare. Need a worldie.
The Gini-Minnie-Mane-Mo combo always did sound betterthan it would be in practice.

Way more of a frantic game than I expected to see tbf. Took Liverpool the entire first half to deal with it properly. It felt like had Hendersons chance gone in, we may have gone on to take the game.
Tough to take more injury news though. Jota gone til February as is Tsimikas and Matip seems incapable of playing more than once a week.
How many more injuries before Klopp changes his approach to training/matchday?

Apparently it's the Champions League last 16 draw soon....
Group winners (seeded): Bayern, Dortmund, Chelsea, Juventus, Liverpool, Man City, PSG, Real Madrid
Runners-up (unseeded): Atalanta, Atlético, Barcelona, Mönchengladbach, Lazio, Leipzig, Porto, Sevilla
That looks like the most competitive last sixteen for some years.

If I was League One/Two I would be giving each local version of BBC one match a week depending on region a week. What pays more, the 2 thousand people in the stadium or 40 thousand people looking at your advertising hoardings on tv?
Think IFollow and Sky have all the rights for Leagues One and Two.

I've no idea how football really works, but, to me, looking at a midfield of Havertz, Mount and Kanté, behind three forwards, seems a bit football manager and/or too much work for Kanté. Mount you can get away with, as he works, but flouncy playmakers really can't be inhabiting those engine room positions.

He tends to start looking better in second halves of games and then Lampard subs him off. His whole vibe is really questionable though - for someone who looks like an athlete, he doesn't seem to know which foot to put in front of the other half the time, and I've seen him smile about twice all season.
Not sure what happened with Nkounkou (the PL may have stepped in to prevent Everton starting him under fair competition regulations) but they've gone and produced 16 year old Thierry Small. I believe the correct term is caconym.

Lol that we will go second if we win our two games in hand. Unless Villa win their THREE games in hand. How has that happened?
Play tonight, missed one against City (?) in the first week and were the victims of Newcastle's covid outbreak.
You really must stop reading into the table with 'if we put a 3 game-run together we'll win the CL lulz'. The 2 superior sides have started slowly and everyone else is seprated by whatever mood Stockley Park are in on said given day. That's why the table is congested. If it gives you lols you'll shit yourself of laughter when you get relegated to the Champ in 5 years time.
These concussion subs are gonna lead to some properly lol play-acting I can't wait to see. It will unfortunately reduce the outfield player in goal scenario though :(

2006 World Cup second round I believe.
There will have been "worse" games on an objective level but given that stage of a World Cup, etc. and the fact neither team even tried to fucking win it's still comfortably the worst I've ever seen.
'Even Fifa’s own report struggled to find a positive angle, describing it as a “scrappy affair devoid of highlights”'

Spain - Holland playing out that awful World Cup final and then having Iniesta rob us of penalties after 119 minutes of tedium made me anti Tiki-Taka.

You know what, I wouldn't have said this a few years ago, but if Amazon fancy getting the cheque book out and buying up all the football, I wouldn't be averse to it. Nice, clean presentation, no bullshit, good simple pundits, good commentators and Jim Rosenthal. Well played.
It's somehow refreshing to hear Jim Beglin and co calling it like they see it again, after years of DRAMA from Sky. Plus Ally McCoist, who actually sounds like he's having a good time rather than it being deadly srs bizness.

One draw against Fulham where they were lucky to even scrape that. Mitrovic missed a penalty and gave one away
Their xPTS has them at 18th same as Burnley so they've definitely been a bit unlucky but as Brighton are finding out, you need finishers. I see Berge is injured too today. RIP

The problem Arsenal have is that weak willed dumbasses have been convinced by the 'THEY NEED A PATRICK VIERA ESQUE CENTRAL MIDFIELDER, THEY'RE WEAK' so we've gone from having 12 creative central midfielders to having Mohamed El Neny. This team can't create through the middle so you're always going to lose a crossing battle to shit teams. That's why they're shit, because they're good at the things good teams are shit at.

Viva la Ole.
Who's the game in hand after we've played Leeds today? Which I go into with my usual sense of pessimism but honestly both teams seem unreliable at both ends so god knows how it'll go. In theory it could be a fun game but I'm sure we'll do our best to not make that happen.

All of these youth english strikers look awful once you put them in the big man league. Brewster, Solanke, Nketiah and the rest of them will just be the next generations Victor Anichebe. They will not be given that type of time though, which is a good thing.

I've watched Brewster quite a few times and not seen anything to suggest he has a place in the top two divisions. He'll get at least five years of that out of having once played for Liverpool, naturally.
