Good effort that. I have decided to start my first big save of 21 after going off it a bit during my traditional opening Arsenal save. Now going to drag Coruña back to the big time.
I’ve got a new laptop that hopefully doesn’t sound like it’s taking off during FM matches, so I’ve started a game. Got it in my head that I wanted to manage in Norway. There are four levels but for some reason, although you can select the fourth, you can’t actually manage teams in it. Annoying cos there’s a team called Frigg. I know you can download databases but I’m a sucker for Steam leaderboards.
So I’ve started unemployed in the hope of getting a Norwegian 3rd tier job. There was one available - Arendal, one for the Frozen fans - but I didn’t get it. However I did somehow get the Denmark U21s job (despite failing to get their U19s job) so those lovely Norway lot will know my name soon enough. Built my tactic around a lad called Anders Dreyer, but he’s soon to be 22 so he can suck it. Now I’m all about a purposely chosen eighteen year old [black!] lad called Mohamed Daramy who has seemingly snubbed his Sierra Leonean ancestors to come and play up top for me.

Had a go at this last night, not because I think there's any real likelihood of me getting back into it but because it's on Game Pass and thought I may as well distract myself from a shit United game with a shit computer game.
My initial observations are that the UI is absolutely wretched and that in the six years since the version I last played they've just piled even more shit into it. I only got as far as doing one friendly because as ever setting up a new save is the worst part of the game but even then I did, of course, immediately get FM'd with a healthy lead in possession, shots, xG (ugh) and a man advantage for 30 minutes leading me to a heroic late equaliser with Sigma Olomouc.
I'll at least give it a go until I get to the competitive games before I condemn it to the bin once more but I don't think being able to bang my fist on the table in press conferences or find out who everyone's mates are in the squad is what was missing from FM for me.

I only got to 8 hours on this version because me eyes just couldnae tak it. That was during two national lockdowns as well, so there's little hope for the future when I might be allowed to leave the house.
I wish they'd leave press alone, it's a completely pointless part of the game until such time as there is very advanced AI that could respond to things you actually creatively say to it (so about 25 years' time).

This makes me sad.
Used to enjoy reading people's updates.
The colours aren't great but the fucking layout. Maybe there's a way to change it?
The team-talk page where it tells you how your players react to you going "Lads I think scoring more goals than the other team is the way forward *point finger*" has all the players arrayed around the screen in a circle rather than just in a list like it used to be. Absolute shit, a change made for the sake of making a change. Nobody actually feels like they're sat in a room surrounded by disinterested millionaires so don't array the fucking icons "around me" you cunts.
Will there be ones which significantly change the layout of the UI or will it just be a fresh lick of paint over the existing nonsense?

The UI is dogshit.
The squad selection screen is the worst, and it’s hard to get to the main squad screen to pick your team from there. And the match screen is horrendous with seemingly most data inaccessible at the end of a match.

I've not played a new FM since FM11; mostly due to the increased unnecessary features and 'in-deptness'. Don't have the time nor interest.
Sounds like most people have similar concerns with the newer versions. But is that because we're all getting older (and the customer market is just getting replaced by people younger than us), or is the game becoming less popular due to these features? (Us lot being a very small sample pool)
Shindig
13-03-2021, 09:58 AM
I don't think it's popularity's waning. 2021 sold a million copies in record time. I'm with you, though. I hate the faff. I can hand as much as I want over to the Assistant Manager but it still doesn't flow like I want it.

TBF I don't find the interface much more annoying than previous ones. Well, I do find things they've done annoying, but not in such a way that it impinges on my experience of actually playing the game. Like, I agree with Ian, the team talk having the players arranged around you is REALLY stupid, but mostly because it's clearly part of their push in FM 21 to make it more "realistic" and "immersive", when in reality it's the kind of annoying gimmicky thing they'd have in a shit 90s game. But, as it's always been, the UI etc is far less important than simply whether you can get past that first pre-season, and then finish the first season.
Speaking of which, I've actually gotten a save going for the first time in ages. Used a mod that makes the top 3 tiers of Scottish non-league playable, and have successfully taken "Petershill" to two promotions in three seasons. One promotion away from the riches of League Two and trips to Stenhousemuir and Annan Athletic
Will there be ones which significantly change the layout of the UI or will it just be a fresh lick of paint over the existing nonsense?
I echo this question. Anyone out there who can save us? The team selection screen is SO bad, and the team talk screen annoys me probably more than it should.

I had a go at the Xbox version the other day as it was on GamePass and it did a fairly decent job of making it playable with a controller. What wasn't that playable was the actual game itself, which, as has been said, is just a horrible bloated mess.

I think my favourite part of this save so far is that i've been able to successfully utilise a strategy i've tried and failed dozens of times - using a slow old playmaker.

i expected to have to pay about £60/week (huge bucks at my level), but he demanded an amateur contract, as player/scout. his 4 JPA and JPP aren't even that bad. he just sort of walks around the pitch, but against Scottish tier 7 keepers freekicks are basically pens.

Started playing this again the past few days and have managed to get Kings Lynn to the promised land of the Premier League I spent next to nothing in the summer getting everyone in on loan. But, 23 points from 21 games points to us staying up quite comfortably.
New stadium isn't ready till the end of the season though so we have had to play our home games elsewhere for the season. Previously when I have had this happen we have rocked up at Norwich which is sensible as it's only 40 miles away. This time no stay at Norwich, so I thought maybe Ipswich or Peterborough or even at a push MK... Nope this season we are playing our home games at Tranmere just the four hundred mile round trip for a home game.
I'm just playing as United as I invariably do with a new save. I've done my first game of the season and it went well enough but I'm not sure I'll last. There's nothing about it that's convincing me it's done anything about the stuff that stopped me playing in the first place and it's added more irritating stuff as I've already mentioned. The problem, I suppose, is that they had essentially got the core bit of the game right (or near enough) years ago so now they just have to tack more shit on and bloat out existing features to justify a yearly release / their existence.
On the plus side, basically the same formation I used in FM15 looks promising so far so hopefully my brief stint in this won't involve too much farting about with tactics.

As you say, the match engine and transfer system is basically pretty good, so I don't understand why they don't spend all their resources making it look great and run fast, to maximise those sweet 'maybe' sales. Instead they bring in loads of bollocks pointless features every year, as if people will pull the trigger based on the chance to know the imaginary social dynamics of their imaginary squad.
Maybe Miles thinks this does look great. I think I've done a surrealist post before about him having pictures of himself woven into his net curtains or something, so I won't repeat it.
This business of arguing over future playing time in every contract negotiation can do one as well.
More admin / reasons for players to bitch at me isn't what anybody wants.

Season 4, my first up in the Lowland League (one promotion away from league football).
Was smashing it at first, challenging the mighty East Kilbride, but as we roll into February we've gone off the boil a bit. Still in 2nd, but level on points with 3rd and 4th (who I think we'll finish below).
In more exciting news though, we somehow smashed Clyde (mid-table championship) 3-0 away in our third round replay, and drew St Mirren away. Lost but...

From my base in Saigon, I started applying for jobs that I found interesting, and in leagues I had not yet managed in.
2 applications were DHL’d to Hong Kong, with both Eastern and Kitchee both looking for a new manager – however, these were long shots. Managing in Hong Kong is a long way from where I am now (sat on my balcony, in my underpants, enjoying afternoon sun).
Kitchee and Eastern had finished 1st and 2nd last season in the HK Premier League with Kitchee qualifying directly for the 2021 AFC Champions League. Within 24hrs both had told me that my application was unsuccessful. Not even a zoom chat.
I became teary, sniffly and desperate and after those 2 quick rejections I immediately applied for 12 jobs - the majority of them half star reputation.
Sha Tin (HK Division 1)
FC Ulaanbaatar (Mongolian Premier League)
Nakhon Prathom United (Thai League 2)
Chiangmai United (Thai League 2)
Visakha (Cambodian C-League)
Al-Shamal (Qatari 2nd Div)
Al-Nasr (Qatari 2nd Div)
Nzema Kotoko (Ghanaian 2nd Div)
Wa Suntaa (Ghanaian 2nd Div)
Tiga Naga (Indonesian 2nd Div)
PSKC (Indonesian 2nd Div)
Persis Solo (Indonesian 2nd Div)
I finished up my fried bat and coconut soup, enjoyed a cheeky late-night hot chocolate and went to bed at 9pm (GMT+7)
I awoke ready and raring to go - opened the lappy and headed straight to Yahoo! Mail....
I had been invited to Zoom interviews with Sha Tin, Ulaanbaatar and Tiga Naga (which I had really started to enjoy saying out loud). Elsewhere, I had received instant rejections from the 2 Qatari clubs and Thai teams. I was saddened by the rejection, but pleased that I had at least received some offers. Deep down I wanted to head to the Thai second division, however, given my lack of experience and penchant for a good massage, the rejection made sense.
The interviews went well, this despite my attempting to drop some questionable puns on the guys at Tiga Naga. FC Ulaanbaatar expressed that they were concerned by my only being a Sunday League footballer with zero management experience; I politely reminded them that they were based in Mongolia, had existed for 5 minutes (since 2010) and had finished 7th last season, a gentle nudge that perhaps Jose Mourinho was not likely in the running for the job.
Following the interviews, a mere 30 minutes later, all three offered me a gig (should this concern me??) – I dismissed Sha Tin as the offer of $1,200 per month was simply not enough to live on in Hong Kong – I would have had to sleep, eat and bathe at the Hong Kong Sports Institute Training Centre. The offer from Ulaanbaatar surprised me: $130-a-week, which in Mongolia would get me a nice penthouse apartment, and a couple of yak. The offer from Tiga Naga was $800 per month, plus free use of the sauna facilities on Monday and Wednesdays, and the chance to manage in front of some proper raucous crowds - the only downside was Tiga Naga was based in the Kampar Regency, a Muslim majority regency within the province of Riau.
2 days later I headed to Tan Son Nhat airport and peered up towards the departures board for my flight…

First update since taking the reins at FC Ulaanbaatar and it’s going surprisingly well.
A quick look at the team and it revealed that we were not exactly stacked with talent. Our best player is 34yr old Japanese centre back Mizu Sasaki, whose playing history revealed that he hadn’t kicked a ball since 2019. Locally, our best player was the one and only Sukhbaatar Osokhbayar, a left back with tons of pace, a decent cross and bags of determination.

Depite having finished 7th last season, the bookies Baat365, had us at 10-1 third favourites. Mongolian giants, Erchim, who had won the title 7 years on the bounce from 2012-2018 found themselves going through a mini-crisis nowadays, and were 4th favourite. The only 2 teams in the league who didn’t come from the capital of Ulaanbaatar were Deren FC (Deren) and Khangarid (Erdenet).
So yeah, I decided given the somewhat agricultural strengths of the team, I decided to go with the old 4-4-2, playing on the back foot, quite direct, early crosses and essentially shooting on site.
https://gyazo.com/6dffb43445b934b43855ecc0f6cc6a4b.jpeg
Only 2 goals conceded in the first 9 goals suggests it’s the correct approach… so far. Outside of the first XI, it’s gets very thin, very quickly – so I think success this season is going to depend on injuries and suspensions.
https://gyazo.com/1ab284f0bb42bf4eb0e3cf4bb0624307.jpeg
Away from the field, the arsehole board don’t have enough money to fund a coaching course, so I’m stuck without any qualifications and ½ star reputation.
The short-term goal is to spend 2 years here, ideally qualifying for next seasons Asian Confederations Cup and the mega bucks that brings ($43k).

FC Ulaanbaatar
2020
Finished my first season at FC Ulaanbaatar, and somehow managed to win the league and qualify for the 2021 AFC Cup, a season earlier than I had expected.
Unfortunately, the finances are not looking good, and there is basically no budget for next season.

At the end of the season, half my squad were out of contract - I managed to renew 4 or 5, whilst 4 left; however, I dipped into the freebies and actually managed to overall upgrade the team.
Buuuuuut, I didn't realise that the AFC Cup (and registration) was on 2nd Feb, whereas, my new signing weren't joining until April. Ooops. I was heading into the 2021 AFC Cup with basically 7 senior players and a load of kids.
2021
First prelim round, we managed to see of Taiwan Steel 5-4 on aggregate, and then had the mighty Benfica (Macau) in the final round of qualifiers...
https://gyazo.com/b965a052d29635518cfeeee9f61d644c.jpeg
No idea where that performance come from. Second leg drew 2-2, sneaking through on aggregate.
We were handed a tough group, with 2 DPRK teams in Kigwancha and Pyongyang City and Eastern AA from HK. 2 opening defeats, but we managed to beat Eastern 3-2 at home before going on the finish 3rd in the group with just 4pts.
https://gyazo.com/e96f90ba6bd2b9281445e7aebbb01277.jpeg
In the league, when the new players finally did arrive, we managed to improve on last season, and lost only 1 game. I think I struck it lucky in that the foreigners in the squad are probably some of the best players in the league. Despite no money, the board finally agreed to a coaching course, so I now have a National C License.
2022
I wanted one more go at the AFC Cup, so I decided to stick around for another season. I learnt from last season and ensured all my best players remained and were registered in time.
I was feeling confident. Opening preliminary draw gave us another trip to Taiwan, this time to take on the mighty Taichung Futuro.
https://gyazo.com/f4578cff249edaefcee8788750b95fa9.jpeg
I couldn't face another season in the Mongolian Khurkhree Lig after that, so I resigned after being knocked out of the AFC Cup, and before a ball had been kicked in the league. I left with a C License, and about 3/4 of 1 star reputation.
The job search starts again.
I've applied for a few jobs in the Egyptian 2nd Division, a couple in Myanmar and 1 in Vietnam. I think I'd prefer to stay in East Asia for now, ideally in Myanmar or Hong Kong.

I'm not sure how I've managed to bash through this save so quickly. A small database on a fairly powerful desktop probably makes a big difference, and I spose having less players to scout/afford saves time trawling through player searches.
Started the save in March, and I'm in my 12th fucking season. Scouts recommended a Turkish 18 year old who'd been released by Galatasary this summer, and had the likes of Inter and Real interested, and managed to quickly throw a big contract at him before one of them came calling. Two months later he's gone fucking mental cus i failed to fulfil the promise of "improving the strikers" - I thought the lad I got on a free who played for Raith in league one last season was pretty good, but whatever. He insisted on being transfer listed, and I've managed to sell him to rangers for £200k (genuinely a very decent amount for us), and a 50% sell on. Our training is so shit it will probably benefit us long term as long as Rangers play him and don't let him leave on a free.
Been a while, but we got to the end of the season and things went well!

Not playing anywhere near as much as I used to. The care free single life days of playing it all the time are gone. Just got a new powerful laptop, so hopefully can play it a little more.

It is simultaneously the best and worst version. The ME is utter shit, I can use the same tactic at all levels and it looks exactly the same regardless of player ability.
One dude did a video where he set elite players finishing to like 4, and they still scored 40+ a season. The transfer, regen, training and scouting is the best its been. Press conferences can get in the bin, as can the whole.morale aspect.
I think I'm finally done with it as a series until it gets a full overhaul. Four.months without playing it and no desire to start a save, longest I've ever gone.

Been playing a lot of FM Touch recently, it's the first time I've properly got into a save in years....
Started with no reputation and looking to work my way up from the bottom in England. Started life at Spennymore Town in the Vanarama North and had a great campaign thanks largely to their striker, Frank Mulhern, scoring almost 50 goals. We finished in the Play Off places and managed to beat arch rivals Darlington at their own ground in the final 4-2 to seal promotion.
The good times kind of stopped there though. Mulhern moved to Ireland after refusing any contract talks and his replacement finished as the top scorer in the National but wasn't quite as good. We had a safe mid-table finish but nothing spectacular. The following season all the players who had been good the year before turned to complete shit and we were relegated and I was sacked for it.
I spent the summer turning down jobs in the Vanarama North/South. I had previously been offered the Plymouth (League 2) job and turned it down to stay loyal to Spenny so I wasn't willing to go any lower than the National for a new club. Eventually I had 2 offers on the table from Vanarama National sides.... Southend who were the bookies favourites for the title but had started like shit and were down in 12th, or Fylde who were in a relegation scrap but had a lot more funding. The challenge of Southend was more appealing and I immediately turned them around, finishing 3rd in that first campaign but losing the Play Off Final on penalties.
The next season we continued our momentum and absolutely pissed the title, giving me my first proper silverware and my first stint in the Football League, some 3 years after turning down the chance to reach it with Plymouth. Our League 2 campaign started really brightly and we were in the Play Off places when Peterborough came calling for me and I had to go and step up to League 1. Southend, with the squad I built, would go on to secure back to back promotions.
Posh were languishing in 17th but wanted me to make the Play Offs... this wouldn't be easy but I had to try it. We made a flying start and I reached the dizzying heights of 3rd (we were never ever going to catch Wednesday or Preston who were both about 10 points above me even at that point) but towards the end of the year, form died on it's arse, we couldn't buy a win, and in the end I missed the Play Offs on Goal Difference. I did however win the Papa John's Trophy, which is the real prize everyone wants. I expected to be sacked, but a board take over happened, and the new chairman reduced my target to mid-table... so I clung to the job by the skin of my teeth. The next year we set a new League 1 points record and absolutely romped to the title, never even looking threatened by any of the opposition. This was mainly due to raiding Swindon for Nya Kirby for a pathetic 500k who turned out to easily be the best player in the division.
And that brings me to my current season in the Championship... where once again we started out great. After a decent amount of games played (20 or so) we were up to 2nd place... but a run of 8 games without a win has seen us fall to 3 points outside the Play Offs. Not bad for a team who is aiming to battle bravely against the drop. Last night I was preparing for a crunch game against Blackburn who are a point behind us when Blackburn decided to offer me their manager job. Normally I wouldn't move to a team below us in the table with much higher expectations (Play Offs) but.... they have a transfer budget of £95m (compared to our £8m of which I think I have £3m left) and a wage budget of 1.4m per week (compared to our 240k).... we are half way through January so I'm going to have to move fast if I want to use those budgets but..... the temptation to move is extremely high. I've not actually decided yet but.... it looks like another new job is calling.
Bring the Premier League back to Blackburn.
Shame Shearer’s not on it as a coach or something.

That season with Blackburn was some ride.
Taking over with a game against my old club away from home was some start in itself. When we won that game 3-2 with a last minute goal it was clear this was going to be a fun time. Our form was decent but not spectacular after that as we Won 3, drew 1 and lost 2 of the next batch of games. Then we went to Birmingham and were 2-0 down at half time and playing like shit and falling away from the play offs. I made wholesale changes at HT and battled back to earn a 2-2 draw and something clicked that day. We then went on a run of 7 wins in a row including dismantling 2nd place Swansea 5-1 to move up to 2nd in the table with just 4 matches to go. Of course that run ended with a 0-0 draw against relegation threatened Pompey where we had about 12 shots on target and their keeper saved everything. Swansea edged back ahead of us, and despite us recovering with a 4-0 win against Rotherham, our automatic promotion hopes died when we somehow let slip a 3-1 HT lead against runaway league leaders Burnley (who won the title by 19 points with 103) and lost..... 6-3. We then got beat by midtable Sheffield Wednesday to fall as low as 4th in the final standings.
But we dusted ourselves off, went to Reading and smashed them 4-2 to have one hand on a place in the Final. The home leg was a formality as we left it late to seal a 2-0 win on the night. Off to Wembley to face Derby where USA International Alex Mighten gave us an early lead only for Derby to level it after 18 minutes. Not much happened for the rest of the game until the 92nd minute when we got a highlight that was literally just my regen striker, Peter Andrews, on loan from Liverpool, curling home a free kick to send us up.
I didn't think it was going to happen this year, but fucking hell did that feel good when that hit the net.
Shame the budget next year is only £45m... I was hoping for another silly one, but I guess they can't keep up the ridiculous spending forever.

It's currently February 2040 we're second in the Bundesliga right now 5 points behind Bayern, we've won our Europa League group ahead of Zenit, Malmo & Maccabi Haifa and we're in the quarter final of the DFB-Pokal.
With New Zealand the Nations Cup, which we are hosting, will start next month which should be a breeze. On the game New Zealand have won the Nations cup every time it's been played so it should be easy.

We went into the final day 2 points behind Bayern but I didn't like our chances and they smashed Leverkusen. Our games against Leverkusen (we were 2-1 up and comfortable, I then made 3 changes and a minute later my best CM hobbled off, they then scored in the 92nd and 94th minutes) and Leipzig (Bayern had just lost to Dortmund and we could have gone into first) are were we lost the title.

Absolutely pissed it and that knocks off the Oceanic Nations Cup from THE LIST.
Future:
The plan was to win the Europa with Hertha then win the Champions League (for a second time) whilst also finishing off the club side by winning the Super Cup and Club World Cup. Solskjaer has fucked that plan though so I've left Hertha as I can't strike off anything from the list in the next season.
All said it's a bit of a failure in Germany which is a shame as I really like the squad I've built. Injuries hurt us though our only real LB got injured for the final few months which fucked as as did our number 1 CM going down for a bit.
Only job available right now that I might be interested is Valencia as they'll be in the Europa League next season but their finances aren't great and the squad is very old.
As for Internationally I've missed the European Championships (they started about a couple of days ago) but I will be going to Europe to try and win the Nations League as the Gold Cup is more than a year away.
Edit: Applied for the Valencia job and they rejected me :moop:

Bayer Leverkusen & Netherlands 2040/41 Season Update:
Transfers out:
https://i.imgur.com/hw7aubt.png
https://i.imgur.com/kaAulIk.png
I tried to shift a lot of shit and was moderately successful at it. Would have liked to have gotten rid of more in the Summer but a lot of the players who left in January wouldn't move in the Summer as they had recently signed new contracts.
Transfers In:
https://i.imgur.com/dLgn3K4.png
£1.6m. Not a great use of finances as I already have a backup keeper (who didn't want to leave) but I hope he can make the team some cash at some point.
https://i.imgur.com/HqWK3nm.png
£350k which I think is a bargain. He can play across the midfield (although he's a little slow as a winger) and I think he can big.
https://i.imgur.com/aEtRmOC.png
A bargain at £14.25k. I couldn't register him (like a lot of the players I bought) for some reason but I like him a lot.
https://i.imgur.com/Bra56vQ.png
My big Summer signing and I was a little disappointed. He scored 15 goals and had 5 assists in 23 games this season but he struggled with a few injuries and he went missing in a lot of games.
https://i.imgur.com/uGUQldu.png
£2.1m. He was mainly used as backup but he might become a starter next season along with someone further down this list.
https://i.imgur.com/XGxAk0w.png
A freebie on low wages. He didn't play much as he was just a decent backup.
https://i.imgur.com/q9Z5wWC.png
£8.25m and I was gutted that I couldn't register him as he'd have played quite a bit especially with so many injuries the team had. I expect him to have a big season next year.
https://i.imgur.com/7VsyzWD.png
£2.4m which is probably a little on the high side as he has a lot of holes but I think it's worth the punt.
https://i.imgur.com/GFpDXxU.png
£575k and he played in a few games, will probably go out on loan next year.
https://i.imgur.com/qlVQVh5.png
£5.5m and I might use him with Maulen as my starting CBs. I tried using them both together a lot in some European, Cup and easy League games. They've built up a nice partnership already which will help.
https://i.imgur.com/Ry2hFp7.png
£22.5k. His composure will really kill him as a TOP guy but I think I can make a lot of money on him.
https://i.imgur.com/uVLCRBH.png
One of my BIG January signings (I couldn't register him though) at £26m. I think it's a bit of an overpay but this kid is going to be a star.
https://i.imgur.com/3N9SvkB.png
Another big January signing at £18.75m and I was hoping he'd really elevate the club. He didn't sadly. He struggled with injuries and he went missing in a lot of games. He also formed a bad link with my new RB.
https://i.imgur.com/OQrcpla.png
£49m and he became one of our best players. Despite his low finishing I played him up front in his debut due to injuries and he got a hattrick. The kid is special.
https://i.imgur.com/17TVMbO.png
I bought him for Hertha for £8.25m and I had to bring him with me when I saw he was interested after Arsenal came in with a big offer for my RB.
https://i.imgur.com/GvT1IiO.png
£13.25m and he doesn't really fit my system but I couldn't say no. He could be a real threat in games where I need to change things up. He's also got a cool name.
https://i.imgur.com/mj9U61r.png
£3.3m and he was largely bought as he can play on both sides of the wing.
League:
https://i.imgur.com/B3AaC2R.png
https://i.imgur.com/g3WJtBB.png
https://i.imgur.com/mLpSg5h.png
Really thought we'd easily tie up Europa football but we sunk after January due to injuries. We'd have had Europa football if Dortmund had beaten Wolfsburg in the cup but they failed us.
Cup:
https://i.imgur.com/wO4sGVU.png
Meh. I just used it to give the youth some games.
Europe:
https://i.imgur.com/2z0GQSw.png
We were absolutely flying until the second leg of the Vitoria game and then we couldn't do shit. We were lucky to be in the Feyenoord game (they were 4-0 up but we scored 2 late in the first leg) as they totally outclassed us.
Netherlands:
Lost to England in the Nations League which saw us crash out in the group stage and we've done well so far in World Cup Qualifying.
USA have sacked their manager just before the Gold Cup so I'm hoping to jump to them.
In regards to Leverkusen I was planning on leaving if I didn't get Europa football as it's going to cause a delay in getting the list done but I don't care. I like this side a lot right now and want to push them on further.

Think my England career game has had the fairytale ending that means it's done... albeit not the one I wanted.
After that promotion with Blackburn we went straight back down the next year despite a hot start that saw us got 20 points from our opening 12 games. We were just completely shite in the second half of the season and could barely get a point. The next year we won the Championship fairly easily to go back up, and the season after that we finished 3 points off the European places. The following year, we went a bit better, and finished 3 points off the Champions League places but in the Europa Leagues places. The next year we dropped back down to an 8th place finish but we made it all the way to the Europa League final, including famous 4-0 wins over PSG and AC Milan. Unfortunately, the final was a bridge too far as we lost 2-0 to Spurs who had finished the season in 2nd. This however meant no European football at all the next season so I was hopeful we would push on. We didn't. The season was a train wreck and we were barely above the relegation zone when I was sacked. Sergio Ramos replaced me, got relegated, and then sold off all my young stars for around £500m, but Blackburn still bounced back to the Premier League the season after. Meanwhile, after rejecting the Man United job to stay at Blackburn, I was only interested in a Big 5 job (fuck Spurs). I turned down Spurs and Brighton twice each as well as Everton, Cardiff and Norwich and kept holding out, and finally after 2 years away, Arsenal and their ridiculous budgets of £475m to spend and £4.5m a week on wages (or there about) came calling for me.
I spent almost every penny of that budget despite it being ridiculous because Arsenal had a few superstar players but absolutely fuck all in terms of depth. I did notice they had 2 of Wonderkids I signed for Blackburn, namely Edwin Meza, a LB who I had signed for £1.5m who they had spent £69m on.... and Jorge Ross who cost me £1.8m and they had bought in for £55m. Both would end up being rotation options for me. I signed a new Goalkeeper as priority number 1, and then added an aging Giovanni Reyna from Manchester United which got the board salivating as he was a "global superstar". Other big signings came in, but perhaps the most interesting to me was paying £50m for Volker Jahn, a regen who Arsenal had had before but for some reason was on the loan list when I was at Blackburn despite being the number 1 German winger. I loaned him for a few years and then bought him for £30m and they had subsequently sold him to Atletico Madrid, so I bought him home. This meant I now had 3 members of my old Blackburn team and while none were starters, all of them contributed hugely off the bench.
And the season went... about as well as it could. We didn't start amazingly, but we started well enough that we were only 4 points behind City most of the way. City when started to slip up and we moved above them and opened up a 5 point lead with 8 games to go. Unfortunately, looking at the fixtures, we still had to face Liverpool (H), Man Utd (A) and Chelsea (H) while City had an easy run in with no big teams. Those 3 games were all in a row too, and we only had 1 game after them.... my return to Ewood Park. Of course.... nothing would be decided until we got there. We chucked away the 5 point lead by drawing 0-0 with Leeds and then chucking away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at home to Relegation candidates Swansea, and we even missed a late penalty to nick a point. Luckily, we had by far the superior GD. We beat Liverpool 3-0 in the first of those horror fixtures but Man Utd scored a last minute equaliser to dent our hopes... but we were rescued when City could only draw at Southampton, meaning we still had the advantage. We then beat Chelsea 2-1 with a late goal off a dodgy pass back.... and City slipped up to a 1-1 draw at home with Bournemouth. This meant we went to Ewood Park needing 1 point to win the title. In a poetic twist, our loss to Swansea meant that Swansea were 3 points clear of the relegation zone.... a relegation zone currently occupied by Blackburn. They had to win to stay up. They scored first as well as the only 2 remaining members of my team combined to put them 1-0 up.... but we came alive and beat them 4-1 in the end meaning I did finally win a title at Ewood Park. 2 weeks later, we beat Atletico Madrid in their own stadium to also win Arsenal's first ever Champions League. Man City had won the previous 5 CLs... and the previous 11 Premier League titles.
There is a temptation to carry on and see how much of a dynasty we can build.... but I think I could play 50 more seasons and not ever top that final day, so it feels like the natural end to a fun save.
2024/25 has gone well.

Bayer Leverkusen & France 2041/42 Season:
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/s6VSQ2u.png
Ended up shifting quite a lot and there aren't many at the club who were here before I came.
Transfers In:
https://i.imgur.com/S1NTKxY.png
I needed CM's badly as I only had one at the club after the sales so in came Ojo for a bargain £5.5m. He was a Chateauroux player in Ligue 2 although he had a loan spell at Freiburg last year and did well so I knew he'd fit.
https://i.imgur.com/M1cES6v.png
Another crazy bargain, this time for £0. I was checking the transfer list and found Ojo along with this guy, who for some reason was listed for free by Watford. I have no idea why as his contract still had a few years on it.
https://i.imgur.com/LnJqFkN.png
I wanted an ELITE striker and I got it in Gato. 35 goals in all competitions from 35 starts and 2 sub appearances. He was the Bundesliga top scorer and came second in the Golden Boot. The only knock on him is that he seemed to go without a goal for a couple of games and then score a hattrick.
https://i.imgur.com/hfcrMWu.png
Another freebie. I don't think he'll ever really feature but I felt like he was worth a gamble, at worst we'll make some decent money.
https://i.imgur.com/Ibbm3di.png
I wanted to get rid of my current LM as, despite being very good, he was earning £240k a week and was incredibly injury prone. I didn't manage it that season but I did get his replacement this season. Signed for £28m from the scumbags Liverpool.
https://i.imgur.com/6nImCza.png
£15.75m. A little expensive but I had no full back cover and I wanted someone who I hope will eventually take over at LB.
https://i.imgur.com/LpLuyrI.png
Another transfer listed Watford player for £0. I'm not really sure what was going on here (they also had another who was a bit crap) but I took advantage. I was hoping he'd link up well with Gato but in the end I played him mostly at RM.
https://i.imgur.com/kNU7YKi.png
£17.25m and our last Summer signing. I wanted a bit more depth.
https://i.imgur.com/wJXOOaN.png
£22m, he couldn't play for us last season at all due to registration but he was someone I signed almost instantly after I had a look following youth prospect day. I think he's going to be special.
https://i.imgur.com/7I722wn.png
£27m. I didn't need him but I liked the look of him so dipped in. Mainly used as cover at RM.
https://i.imgur.com/ir12C9d.png
£9.25m and he's another who I snapped up after he was produced.
League:
https://i.imgur.com/wy5UDxA.png
https://i.imgur.com/G5bhdP8.png
https://i.imgur.com/EWgDpvv.png
A really bad start meant we were never truly in it. I'll happily take second though especially ahead of Schalke (who are only one of three teams to win the league in my save) and Hertha who have a much better squad and a lot more money after my stint.
Cup:
https://i.imgur.com/gpTOXqW.png
This went well.
Europe:
https://i.imgur.com/ys2amip.png
We were great and deserved to win, the AZ second leg was the only nervy game we had. At points during it I was sure we were going to crash out.
France:
I was with the Netherlands and was planning to take them to the World Cup but the French manager left so I jumped ship:
https://i.imgur.com/CXFx8cA.png
Only problem match was against the USA (who I failed to win the Gold Cup with) we absolutely shat on them but our strikers refused to score. Thankfully we finally nabbed one to ensure it didn't go to penalties. An absolutely piss easy run all things told.
In the final we had an easy game:
https://i.imgur.com/X2ErF9j.png
They were never in the match and we cruised to victory.
The List:
FIFA Club World Cup
UEFA Champions League
UEFA Europa League
UEFA Super Cup
African Champions League
Copa Libertadores
O-League (Oceanic Champions League)
Asian Champions League
North American Champions League
International competitions:
FIFA World Cup
Olympics
UEFA European Championship
Nations Leaue
African Cup of Nations
Copa America
Oceanic Nations Cup
Asian Nations Cup
North American Gold Cup
Hopefully I'll win the Nations League and European with France before going back to trying for the Gold Cup. The club things might take a while now that I've decided to try and turn Leverkusen into giants though.

I've just rejoined Gillingham in the summer of 2081, having won the Champions League for the 2nd time on the trot with my Benfica side and it was all a bit too easy. So let my contract expire and the Gills job became available.
The Gills finished 3rd in the Premier league and have very unreasonable Saudi owners. Didn't realise they were £30mill in the red until I joined them, but that got sorted when my Saudi owners accepted an £89mill offer from Seville without my consent for my best player.
Currently in preseason and trying to asset strip my previous Benfica side for their best players.

Recently completed season 2080/81 with my Benfica team (on FM11).
Season turned out to be another good one. Having been at Benfica for the last 6 years, the domestic competitions are won with ease every season, which is becoming a bit mundane. The challenge however lies with the champions League and we managed to win it again, for the 2nd consecutive year. We also added the Club World Championship to our list of silverware at Benfica. Sacked from Norwich after being too close to the relegation zone after 12 matches. I messed up really by investing too much of the WARCHEST in youngsters and not enough on quality to improve the first team and when injuries hit we were fucked.
Still, no matter. I got to grips with a lot of the screens during that game, so I think it's time for some form of Journeyman effort. This laptop won't run enough leagues for a worldwide one, so will need to stick to European leagues only for now.

And Yev Bin-Maan, with 96 caps and 39 goals for his country and no coaching qualifications to speak of (making him a 2 and a third star manager no less) is born.
Life has been easy on Bin-Maan since hanging up his boots, living and enjoying life in Saath Afri-ka he had no desire to get into management, but an argument via live link with Gary Neville changed all that.

2020/21 Mid-Season Update - Cape Town Spurs
So our first job in management has started both well and utterly horrifically at the same time. On the plus side, we're top of the league and favourites to go up and get my first trophy on the board:
https://i.postimg.cc/256sKrN9/League-Table.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
On the downside, there's a problem. Well, two problems.
Firstly, we're now over half a million quid in debt and haemorrhaging cash at every turn. On close inspection of the finances, this is solely down to our pitiful gate receipts - despite playing in a 35,000 all seater stadium in Cape Town, we have an average attendance of fewer than 400. I don't know what promotion pays, but I doubt it's going to cover this mess.
Secondly and perhaps most problematically of all, our board will only let us do this when it comes to contracts.
https://i.postimg.cc/dVB79mJm/Contract.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
So (now we're into the new year and almost all of my players have less than 6 months left) I'm having to sit and watch each and every one of them get picked off. Shambles.

The WARCHEST for next season has been set at £0 and our wage budget will be the same as it was this year, so I'm off. The Supersport Utd job is available in the Premier League and Kaizer Chief's manager is very insecure. Yeah, a 4-2-3-1 Gegenpress, but I need to introduce another as there were some signs of tactic crackage (if that's still a thing?) towards the end of the season. If Orland Pirates hadn't such a cluster fuck with fixture pile up I don't think we'd have hung on due to the amount of chances we were missing and draws we had.

2022/23 Mid Season Update - SuperSport Utd
Well, I say mid-season, for some reason we now have two months off and it's still October. Last year we had a month off in January, so I've no idea what's going on. What I do know is we're reasonably well placed at the break.
https://i.postimg.cc/0yBN4Cgw/League-Table.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
And that due to the ridiculous break we have some ludicrous scheduling coming up:
https://i.postimg.cc/8z0hbWty/Scheduling.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
We're out of the (elongated) South African version of the Charity Shield and the League Cup, which is probably a blessing, so just the league, main cup and 'Europe' to concentrate on. Talking of the latter, this is the group stage draw:
https://i.postimg.cc/SsCSPFqX/Europe.jpg (https://postimg.cc/wyxYtr1H)
El Tunis look ridiculously good (having as they do a squad of players worth millions compared to my handful of couple of hundred k players) and have won 4 of the last 5 editions. Might need Jimmy Floyd to give us a rundown here.

Esperance tend to have a high rep I think, as does Tunisia itself, so they, Ahly, and Sundowns tend to be the teams to beat in Africa on the recent versions I've played. Research is pretty lacking generally for teams outside the highest rep 10/12. Group D there is definitely the group of death.
If you have a large enough database, then Mazembe would be the threat in your group as they are loaded from all the copper mining dollar down in Katanga province. They tend to have a lot of the better Congolese players, some good Zambians, and imports from west Africa.

Bayer Leverkusen 2042/43 Season Update:
Transfers Out:
https://i.imgur.com/exqNSDE.png
Finally managed to get rid of Akpinar who, whilst great, was always injured. Also sold some of the players I bought to the club in Ojo (who I signed for £5.5m) and Genovese (also £5.5m) so made some nice profit. Also, I wanted to sell Schurig and I rejected offers above that but the board sold him after I agreed my United move.
Transfers In:
https://i.imgur.com/mQCPQjD.png
£18.75m which in hindsight was a massive overpay but I was struggling to find players to spend money on in the Summer.
https://i.imgur.com/LdJV4Jc.png
£160m and a former player of mine at Hertha. I hoped he would help us take a step forward and he did but it was too little too late.
https://i.imgur.com/ECztPdB.png
I secured a deal to sign him on a free in the Summer but I wanted him in January so I paid £17.75m to bring him in early.
League:

https://i.imgur.com/LsMla5L.png
https://i.imgur.com/Wt4gACQ.png
Another shit start fucked us yet again. I really thought that despite the start we might be able to claw Bayern back but it wasn't to be.
Cup:
https://i.imgur.com/GRPL5pY.png
Meh.
Europe:
https://i.imgur.com/t319fJD.png
I thought we had a chance here especially as we looked brilliant in the groups (the 6-3 loss to Atleti was with the yoof and finishing second provided a better draw) but City were just too much for us.
Squad:
https://i.imgur.com/8VF6YKV.png
https://i.imgur.com/4BYuXne.png
The squad has been MASSIVELY improved by me and they club is set as I've also made them a fuckton of cash (I've boosted the balance by just under £135m). It's bittersweet that I'm leaving them as I really wanted to win the league and Champions League with them but I couldn't say no to United.
I'm sure I'll be reuniting with some of the players in Manchester.
France:
We're in the Semi Finals of the Nations League and we're up against Spain who we battered in the WC so I'm confident, hopefully I can knock that off THE LIST.

My experience with VAR is it always gives the same decisions. Every possible offside is confirmed as offside and every potential penalty ends up being a foul, it's just a case of whether it was in the box or not. Complete waste of time.

Struggled to beat Spain but we managed to make it 3-2 with 5 minutes left and then it was fairly easy against Italy.
Here's how THE LIST stands now:
FIFA Club World Cup
UEFA Champions League
UEFA Europa League
UEFA Super Cup
African Champions League
Copa Libertadores
O-League (Oceanic Champions League)
Asian Champions League
North American Champions League
International competitions:
FIFA World Cup
Olympics
UEFA European Championship
Nations League
African Cup of Nations
Copa America
Oceanic Nations Cup
Asian Nations Cup
The caretaker manager at United actually won the Champions League (annoying as I'd have liked to have gone for the Europa) so I've got a chance at the Super Cup this season. Will stay and try for the Club World Cup which is just over 2 years away too.

It's all coming back to me how wank it is managing in the MLS. On the plus side we were second favourites for the title before the season started, so there may be an opportunity to bag a quick trophy then get the hell out of here.
On the further downside, one of my designated players is this mess:

I've signed some players and it's become even more apparent why the MLS is awful.
https://i.postimg.cc/d0J5hsb9/Awful.jpg (https://postimg.cc/FYnyq4sf)
Why does that squad salary say I've selected £90k's worth of actual spend when it's more than that?
Why does it not drop at all when I de-select Carlos Vela?
Why are some players I've bought greyed to 'Out' and I seemingly can't select them no matter what?
How do transfer fees count towards the cap?
Shambles.

'DP' is a designated player i.e. a 'star' whose wages don't count towards the cap. Not sure how many of them are allowed these days but it looks as if you have three of them.
I had an enjoyable game with Seattle once and did get my head around it, the only thing that made it a bit shit was that the draft wasn't properly implemented and all the college regens were dogshit, so after a few years it became a bit odd. Not sure if they've sorted that out by now.
Also unlike the legendary African CL, the NACL is a terrible competition.
Yevrah
07-09-2021, 12:03 PM
Designated players are the easy bit Jim and some of their salary does count, but only the first £11k or £5.5k.
Checked out the NACL and it does indeed look a bit lame.
I also stumbled across what I think might be the new format for the World Club Championship, which makes you realise FIFA/UEFA's inertia led indirectly to Super League proposals.

Is that the mega 10 groups of 3 or something silly?
Yevrah
07-09-2021, 12:07 PM
It is indeed.
Apparently they're going to run it every 4 years instead of the Confederations Cup (guess the brown envelopes from that have dried up). Current edition has been postponed due to COVID and the next will be in 2025. Not sure whether it gets even more crazy by that point, but I liked the idea of it tbh.

Yevrah
07-09-2021, 12:09 PM
Also, the Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Conference League qualification and moving between them looks like a complete mess and that's even before you add in the abomination that the Champions League is about to become.
Honestly, these people do not have a clue how to run a global or European game. Almost any sports promoter you could suggest would do a better job.
Yevrah
07-09-2021, 12:14 PM
Here's UEFA explaining the Europa Conference League qualification.
https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaconferenceleague/about/
In all, 184 teams will be involved over the course of the season including at least one from each of the 55 associations and 46 clubs transferring from either the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League.
Before the group stage there will be three qualifying rounds and a play-off round (split into a main path, and a champions path for those transferring from the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League champions path). The access list explains which teams (including some national cup winners) enter from which associations and in which rounds, as well as how clubs transfer from the other competitions.
Ah, can't forget the access list. Here it is in all its glory...
