Infantino is currently facing a serious investigation case from the Swiss. Meaning he’s likely to face a contested election. If he survives the case, he needs the African voting bloc for the election in 2 years. This allows the likes of Nigeria to call up people without players worried about making the wrong call.
It’s got nothing to do with players interests.
If Ireland could somehow get a Jofre Archer reincarnate as a footballer, I’m sure Giggles would accept him as his cousin.

Since when hasn't it been?
Lindelhof has been done there in the same way that the Croatia defender (or whoever it was) was against France in the World Cup. Slow motion makes it look like his arm moves towards the ball (and is somewhat away from his body at the point of impact) when in reality it's just the natural movement of his arm from running. It's just a bafflingly bad decision.

A couple of things:
1. Arsenal performance last night was akin to their turgid displays last season, where they look like a mid table team, at best. So much for the media hype after beating a shit Fulham.
2. I love seeing how bang average Man Utd have become  Even when they spend a sack load of money on players, they seem to turn them into worse players after the initial 6 months.
SincereTheRebel
20-09-2020, 07:26 AM
1. That is because Arsenal are a mid-table team. They finished 8th last year.

My comment was more a reflection on the media hype surrounding them after just one game.
niko_cee
20-09-2020, 07:40 AM
They won, which is all that really matters. They can take operation park the bus for another spin next week and anything gained will be an excellent start to the season. It's not like United or Spurs look anything other than bang average either so there's an opportunity for Arsenal (or maybe Everton, this season's Leicester, to go far and then implode) to get up around the 4th place trophy.
No idea what to expect today. Years of watching Mourinho sides grind us into the dust has completely melted my brain. I read yesterday that Chelsea have only won two of the last ten at home against Liverpool in the league, with Liverpool winning five. That feels all wrong and outwith my experience of the fixture. I expect Werner to do well against the high line. Hopefully Frank comes up with one of his tactical masterplans and it scuppers their chances. Kepa will probably have a blinder now they've nearly bought a replacement, he does usually do quite well against Liverpool.

He is so stubborn. He gets things stuck in his head and refuses to back down. We didnt play with a high line at all last season and finished really well, for some reason weve decided to play this crazy high line with exposes the defence and keeper.

Romano tweeting that Chelsea will be signing Mendy this week the second that happened
VAR said 'checking foul' and all they checked was the offside, blatantly rushed. Such a shambles.
Enjoyed our game today but my god VAR is horrible. Instead of feeling elated when 2-0 up inside 6 minutes, your instinct is now to question every goal and penalty decision, and then only after confirmation there's a diminished celebration. I can only assume those still in favour of VAR are accountants, lawyers and robots.
I wouldn't care if they used it for red cards (Bissouma was rightly sent off imo), but please no goals, penalties or offsides.
On the bright side: Lamptey was again fantastic, £4million is laughable; an average age of 23 or something means we'll only get better; and although he changed formation mid-game, Potter seems to be sticking with 3 at the back to start at least.

I think these high-scoring games are a bit ominous. Everyone will be in bits by Christmas, and the season is going to be shit to the point of people just stopping watching it before crowds are allowed back.
The xG stats for the Spurs and Leicester games are pretty lol.

As the Chelsea game was about to start yesterday Tyler said something about 31 goals in 6 matches proving the league had returned in amazing form as if 5 goals a game doesn't just mean no fucker can defend.

A load of Orient players have come down with Covid and nobody seems to know what it means for their cuptie tomorrow. Theories ranging from forfeit the game, play the youth team and suspend the fixture.
Does anyone know what is actually meant to happen? Their must be procedures in place for this.
Well postponement would seem the fair and logical choice, so good luck to Orient's kids as they take on Spurs.

We once had a game abandoned at the Riverside for snow that wasn't even there. I do wonder if Orient could take the nuclear option and just forfeit? Is there TV money due for the tie because it's not like there's gate receipts coming in.
You're not wrong. I thought there would be a precedent for postponement due to illness but all I can find is women's football and Scottish football, so nothing of relevance.

You're right in saying it's not fair though and this is different to your normal illness in that it writes the whole team off for 7 - 14 days, it could take players a long time to recover and at somepoint it's probably going to happen to every club going.
There must be some form plan in place.

I believe there are rules for league fixtures but not cup ties as the schedule is already too overloaded for postponements. I remember something about 7 players missing or something but that might have been Germany.

It's obviously a stonewaller but I do wish there was some way that the type of penalty City got yesterday could be ironed out of the game - the type where the attacker just pokes the ball (out of play in the case) and runs into/waits for the defender to hit him, but then, that probably ends up with a wholesale change to or removal of the penalty rule itself (it is a bit of a stupid rule when you think about it) which is going to be too big of an alteration for most to stomach.

The penalty rule should stay, but you should have to take the kick from wherever the foul took place (or on a backwards line no nearer the goal, as in rugby).

Yeah, of course.
But surely the idea of a 'foul' in essence is the fouled player being denied fair play of the ball, which isn't really strictly the case in the poke-and-fall type penalties. They never have any intention of doing anything with the ball other than getting to it and falling over. Of course, defenders should know not to do that sort of thing, and Saiss's effort was particularly egregious yesterday, but it's just something that annoys me when it is so obviously played for, in an entirely meaningless area of the penalty area [to the extent that that isn't a self-defeating phrase].

Yeah, we spunked a lot of money on some real shit the first season in the Championship. Became better when Bruce came in (Hogan aside) and then Smith took us forward further in the January (Mings).
We had Tony Xia for two years after Lerner and couldn't pay the tax bill at the end of his second season. Fortunately bought out by Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris, because Xia was taking us down the leagues, maybe even under.

I guess there's the carrot of a CL place for winning it which may make that worthwhile, but it's now just like a shadow Champions League filled with middling teams and then dumping the 8 CL losers onto the 16 qualifiers to make a watered down load of shite. At least currently the CL losers are only 8/32.
In the Conference League, you'll still have the chance of a nice big away day if you're Shamrock Clovers Utd, but mostly it'll be more winnable affairs or at least ties you can think about winning.

Derby County by 24.
You reckon they've got another Clough era in them?
I'm always amazed Jones seems to have gone relatively under the radar in age group football. He's a much better prospect than someone like Brewster.
That game last night was ridiculous though. I've no idea what division Lincoln are in, but when you've got some lower league carthorse centrehalf being asked to take the ball off the 'keeper and play out from the back against, probably, the best pressing team in the world, how do you imagine that is going to end up? Pepball has broken everyone's minds. Most Premier League teams (looking at you here Brighton) screw themselves over with the out from the back ethos on a fairly regular basis so how lower league Lincoln thought it was going to be anything other than disastrous is beyond me.
Jimmy Floyd
25-09-2020, 08:34 AM
Age group football is a complete false economy. Yes, the very best will be clear (like Foden), but otherwise selecting a team from a 2 or 3 year age band to play against their peers is very different to the criteria used in senior football. It's the same in all sports, actually. You tend to get flat track bullies in the age group game who get found out when they come up against experience, whereas someone like Jones has different qualities that are better suited to senior football.
A lot of it is down to attitude. I look at Hudson-Odoi and think there's someone who is literally only interested in money, whereas Fikayo Tomori, for example, has a great and visible hunger about him.
Process guys and outcomes guys. The process guys tend to make it, in the end.
