View Full Version : Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Out tomorrow on PC, Game Pass has a free version so I'll be giving it a go. It looks stunning.

Might have to wait until it makes its way on to the Xbox.
Is that a Pitts Special I saw there?

So the xbox version will just be like a shitty port basically right?

I dunno. You'd imagine Microsoft could optimise it for console at some point.
Nailed the first training. Basically a pilot now.

This sort of shit properly tempts me (always resisted Truck Simulator as, you know, trucks).
How much of the landscape is real and how much generic/generated?
Doesn't definitely answer the question but related:

Christ. Until someone photo maps the whole world for a driving sim (10 years away?), this might just be the one.

Air safaris.
Just did my first solo flight in the tutorial. Took off like a boss, did all the turns like I knew what I was doing, lined up perfect for the landing. Landed, then tried to enter a taxi lane too fast and went off into the grass :D

When The Crew came out I thought it was a marvel that you could drive about a scale version of the US where the cities were 'skyscraper + landmark', this seems an incredible feat.

How do you buy a Microsoft game for the PC?
EDIT: €120 :D

Remember to use code 'Baz' at checkout.
Is everybody not playing it through Gamepass? Or was that a limited time thing?
Or if you can just pirate it for free than just do that rather than give sodding CD Keys your money.

The in-game downloader (which apparently takes hours as it's 90gb+) counts against Steam's refund window.

Also, something to be aware of is that they've linked flight controls to frame rate so the prettier you make it the less responsive it's going to be.

I knew about the underwater bridges but the auto-generated buildings could be really fun.

I am, download of that 92gb data took a few hours so I just went on FM, for something they’ve given away for free though I’m not complaining.

150 GBs of available space. Bejesus. :D At least I can be confident my R7 240 will not even take the piss trying to render this.

This isn't receiving great reviews, despite the awesome graphics.
I think that the old one was already quite good in terms of instrumentation etc. simulation, so apart from "look at the shiny objects", I don't think that this one adds much.

This one will grab in loads of sales from those who haven't ever had it before (me included), because shiny things are ultimately pretty class.
I will need an external hard drive to install it though :D
I have to say that the inclusion of the Pitts Special tempts me. If they had sailplanes (and proper soaring modelling) I would probably be balls deep into this.

I keep toying with picking up FSX but then I'd wonder how much I'd bother with it.

This is the big Tesco near me where I do the top-up shop, but the building circled is actually a petrol station. 4/10

The boring travel stories lad who I lived with in Norwich once had a job as a door-to-door salesman, and one day a bloke invited him in to see his massive and expensive flight simulator set-up that, according to boring travel stories lad, was the only thing he could see that he owned other than kitchen stuff. He just had his entire front room set up around this equipment.

I feel like stuff like that is only acceptable if you've got a license and you want to keep yourself sharp. The fake radio controls feel like a step too far, mind.
Drew can do whatever he likes!
He’s on the GB quick look which is what I’ll be watching with breakfast today.

Tonight I've spent hours flying a plane from Orkney to Paris. Even on my crappy machine and with my low knowledge of flight sims, it's just the most beautiful and mind-relaxing thing.
You need an attention span though, which is my number one attribute as a human so it suits me.

Not flying into the abyss. :nono:
