New Stuff

FUT Co-op seems to be the big new thing. You can play with 1 other player online by the looks of it, to earn rewards for both of your clubs. You can play against other duos or play 2v1.

You can also co-op with someone against the AI in Squad Battles.

Customisation - Your stadium will start off as a small ground, but as your club grows you will unlock more tiers to it, more ways to customise, those tifo things and pyro etc. Eventually you'll have your own thing that looks stupidly big.

Training items and fitness items are gone. Praise the fucking lord.

Team events. There will be events where you will be asked to split into a team and work towards goals. The example they gave was Team Joao Felix or Team Haaland.

We're now up to 100 Icons and these are your new names.

Last thing I can think to mention for now is Meaningful Moments. They state they realise that their upgrading of cards e.g. Team of the week, isn't the best process. However now a specific stat will get the boost. The example they give is if Trent smashes in a free kick, they'll bump up his free kick stat.

I'll also look to get everyones gamertag and console in this OP so we can co-op together etc in FIFA 21.

There will be "dual entitlement" of FIFA 21. So if you buy it on Xbox One you get it automatically for Series X. Buy it on PS4, get it automatically for PS5.

I want to see what team you have used, how many goals you have scored etc. Give me an average ranking of your WL finish that I can check my click your profile. Make it super stat driven. I no longer want to see that De Gea in 400 games, has scored 0 goals. Show me how many interceptions Kante has made per game.

Exactly my thinking. To get the good things either takes one or a combination of:

Chucking money at the game (haven't done that at all this year and it feels like I've won, see point three for why I've actually lost)
Being very good at the playing side of it (pretty clear to all now I'm sure that I'm not)
Playing the game (EDIT: Grinding the fuck out of the menus) for ludicrous lengths of time.

I've done the latter and bar a special Mbappe and a couple of top level icons I've pretty much got all one could want, but if I buy FIFA21 they're now all useless to me and even if I carry on playing FIFA20 for years it simply isn't worth the time invested in the first place to get them as there's a) not that much to do with them and b) the football side of the game itself isn't very good.

Playing this thing for the last 3/4 years has almost been all encompassing and my time is just better spent playing other games or doing other things entirely.

The customisation and 'off-field' stuff in the game now is about where it should have been 2-3 versions ago.

Yev has the problem with UT nailed there though. You either have to pay up, or be very good at the game. If you're doing neither you have to play for a long time. Then comes the problem of how short the cycle is.

The cycle this year will be what? October to September next year. The game usually dies off in May after TOTS too. Ploughing loads of time into a version to get a team of ridiculousness, only to then give it up and start again I can't really do. Hence why you've seen me go hard on one version only to take the next year off.

I’m tempted, as I’ve really enjoyed the last 3 months on this one, but ultimately I know I’ve enjoyed because I quickly assembled a load of TOTS via 2 weeks of BPM’ing on the app and then had fun with all of the mega content, and didn’t have to grind Weekend Leagues for Gold 1-2 every weekend in the first few months just to keep up.

I’ll do the same again and wait for it to land on EA Access.

At the moment forward runs are infuriatingly dumb at times, but change that and then you have the problem FM does with too many one on ones and it's next stop hello superkeepers.

It's a tough ask making a football game, basketball, for example is much easier to model, but you then look at things like heading this year and you can't help but come to the conclusion that they want each version to be at least slightly shit to give people more reason to buy the following one.

This. Especially FUT. The best ones were the ping pong arcadey ones, do mad shit, see mad shit happen to you, feel good footie. 09 through to 15 I’d say.

The infuriating thing is they’ve absolutely nailed content, and a lot of the gameplay additions have actually been great, but the complexity of the gameplay design now means that it feels like there’s a load of sliders being dialled you and down in FUT to make allowances for the way folks play the game.

Watch AI vs AI on top setting and it’s a damn realistic representation of football.

Highly recommend it, but suggest it’s best waiting until TOTS for it, as then the base cards are so low in price it’s easy to get going with the League SBCs, and during that phase you can actually land a good few via the SBCs easily enough. I still needed to rinse the squad battles and coin boosts to get going for a week or two, but once I had 100k it was all systems go from there.

I also forgot to put in, injury cards are done as well for the most part. You have 1 gold injury card, 1 silver. None of the specific knee or arm injury stuff.

1) if my opponent losses connection, regardless of the score and the time. I should get the win

2) if i click someones name in WL on the leaderboard, does it show me their team and overall WL stats

3) does GK stats show saves per game, etc instead of goals scored

Just a small FYI but you might want to hold off on buying FIFA 21 at launch if you're on Xbox.

EA's subscription service will be merging with Microsoft Game Pass in November so you can get FIFA and many other games including any Microsoft exclusives (Halo etc.) for a fiver a month.

Or get EA Play for a month or two then swap over.

I seem to remember a post on here by Fry (aeons ago) talking about game design mechanics and the gist was basically: pace is the easiest thing to programme; there's a direct, linear equation to it and it's got an easily observable effect. How do you codify "technique" or "first touch"...it's much more difficult. Not that that's an excuse, but you can see why it always ends up that way.

They don't help themselves by continually fucking up heading, meaning there's only one way to play the game.

Yeah in FIFA 21 you can transfer points (like you can't buy points through the web app, presumably to avoid giving Apple a cut).

I'd wait for a bit and see if it settles down and/or contact customer support. I had that same bug every so often last year and it usually just resolved itself.

The more you win in the placement games (up to maximum of 5 games/124k) the more coins you get.

I won 2 and got 44k IIRC.

Not sure how much you remember from playing before but this year it looks like theres going to be four main modes:

Squad Battles - Offline games against AI opponents. 42 games a week to earn points and packs. You can skip the tough teams and just play shitty rated teams to rattle up points.

Division Rivals - Online games against human opponents. They are putting a cap on how many games you can play in this but each game earns you points and you get a "Rank" for the week that determines your rewards. Overall you have a skill rating based on how many games you win/lose, as that moves up you move up the "divisions". Rewards get better the higher the division you are in. 10 divisions with (I think) 5 ranks at each level.

FUT Champs - Weekend games against human opponents. Open for 72 hours and you have the choice to play up to 30 games to get the best rewards. You must earn points in rivals to qualify for this.

Live Friendlies - This is new but I think they are going to push it hard and put challenges in there to earn packs by playing games with specific squad requirements. This week was "three nations". So players from only three countries.

Not sure how much you remember from playing before but this year it looks like theres going to be four main modes:

Squad Battles - Offline games against AI opponents. 42 games a week to earn points and packs. You can skip the tough teams and just play shitty rated teams to rattle up points.

Division Rivals - Online games against human opponents. They are putting a cap on how many games you can play in this but each game earns you points and you get a "Rank" for the week that determines your rewards. Overall you have a skill rating based on how many games you win/lose, as that moves up you move up the "divisions". Rewards get better the higher the division you are in. 10 divisions with (I think) 5 ranks at each level.

FUT Champs - Weekend games against human opponents. Open for 72 hours and you have the choice to play up to 30 games to get the best rewards. You must earn points in rivals to qualify for this.

Live Friendlies - This is new but I think they are going to push it hard and put challenges in there to earn packs by playing games with specific squad requirements. This week was "three nations". So players from only three countries.

7om, I wouldnt really say proficient. I usually end up picking 1/2 card and mass bidding on them at 10%/15% below market and then selling them on that way. Not sure I am going to bother with it much this year. Usually a couple in the 30/40 range that are special cards.

This year if you get on soon and get some coins then 84/85/86 cards that are slow/outside the meta/shit leagues are all currently underpriced as they arent needed. As soon as SBCs come out they should go up. Same happened last year.

Bought a lot of Norwich silvers and made a decent wedge but I lost a hell of a lot buying Leicester players (especially IF's) for the Vardy POTM which EA ended up giving us for basically free.

Yeah - most menus were fairly quick but there's a few which are horrific. Did Tonali and a few of the starter SBCs but nothing exciting emerged.

The FUT objectives for the pre-release window seem fairly onerous for three days. I'm already mostly sick of the music, which is a bit of a record.

Played a bit of Career Mode which seems decent. Went with Dortmund as I don't think they have any main changes missed in the squad that starts versus the transfer window. Started with some wonderkid striker in my youth team, which is nice.

Overall I'm quite enjoying the gameplay. Nothing feels too out of whack and there's some nice changes, skill-wise. Haven't spotted anything being massively abused like dragbacks were or headers. "Controlled direction runs" or whatever the name for it is could be pretty cool, if I can figure out how to use them properly (but that's on me).

I'm about halfway through my EA Access trial and I can feel myself being tempted back in again. The start of a FIFA cycle is always the best, where every gold player makes a difference somehow.

Managed to pack Marcos Llorente in my reward packs and my god, he is brilliant in this early stage. Helped me to a 5-2 win in my first placement game with 2 goals from CM.

I had a defender sent off just now in SB. It was a straight red but I think the game glitched out and it was for technically two yellows.

I committed a foul with him in like the 65th minute (I'm sure the ref was going to give me a yellow when play stopped) but play didn't stop until I fouled again with him in the 85th with what looked like simply a bookable foul.

I think the game mashed them together and just gave me the straight red as it couldn't give me two yellows and then a red.
