So yeah...might as well.

Final at least apparently.

I doubt we will win it.

The Merse

Fuck me it's here.

Hoping the Fiji Weegie's put in a good show - Nakarawa is one of the finest locks in the world and Matawalu is as exciting as it gets, albeit with no game sense whatsoever like most of his countrymen, which will see him fail at Bath I'd say.

I've seen him try quick taps in a Pro 12 semi final with 2 minutes left and a point or two behind in favour of taking the three and stood in astonishment as he tries to run it past his own try line with a swarm of opposition in front. I've also seen him slalom past two locks with about 6 inches between them to get over the gainline and evade any number of quality opposition. Mercurial but flawed.

Watch Nakarawa's basketball offloads.

The Merse

Matawalu :(

Nice to see him bursting away mind.

Fucked off with the ITV coverage. The ref saying 'Clear separation' was not in reference to the fucking ball coming out of Niko's hands you fucking idiot, it was in reference to the scrum to judge who got the put in. This shit during the 6 Nations as well :nono:

Another good start fizzling out.

Also the England scrum is worryingly rubbish.

The Merse
18-09-2015, 08:29 PM
Fiji are very good up front. Built in the Pacific Islands and schooled in the shitty attritional battles that are Top 14 games is a very good combo for a tight forward.

Lee
18-09-2015, 08:31 PM
Is this a shit game of rugby? It seems shit to me. If this is normal I'm going back on my commitment to go to the pub to watch loads of it with my mate.

Ian
18-09-2015, 08:34 PM
It's not that I expected Fiji to get steamrollered up front, England just look a bit messy to me. Though I'm no expert.

The Merse
18-09-2015, 08:43 PM
They've not been great, but first game of the world cup against a massive pack, I wouldn't have thought it would be a big concern. Wales don't have as great a tight 5 as they once did, at least in the set piece, and Australia's scrum has long been a joke. So I'd have thought that they'll fly through the pool match scrums and only be challenged by Ireland, France and the SH boys otherwise.

Ian
18-09-2015, 08:48 PM
Never mind all that: Mike Brown.

I always forget about bonus points.

I reckon this is one of the more exciting, potentially at least, sets of backs England have had in a while.

EDIT: Fucking hell, is that Johnny May's voice? He sounds like a proper gimp.

The Merse

Talking of which...

Ital's prediction of a New Zealand-England final might be on the cards if this keeps going.

England aren't winning shit.

That referee was an absolute wanker and the use of the tv's throughout was a pisstake

Queenslander

The Wobblies scrum is a lot better this year, far more stable and less likely to go to shit when the replacments come on. Im not saying we will rumble teams for penalty tries but there has been massive gains made under our Argie scrum coach.

@Merse

Edit- The hinging fuck Ben Alexander has been giving the boot finally.

England were decent enough against a good Fiji team, but most schooled rugby supporters would see that as unconvincing, Pleb.

Aussie scrum is better but should still be found out vs the NH sides.

They don't lie on each other indefinitely and they don't see endlessly kicking the ball into row Z as a good thing. There's the win right there.

What a day. :D

Went to Cardiff to get in the mood (always rammed during the rugby, this time turning into a sea of green). The Japan match was great.

Very few teams, especially the big 8, would have that ambition to waive off the tie with two minutes to go and kick to touch, electing to srum down a second time four minutes later in stoppage time was fantastic. Well worthy of their win and as a result leaving me shitting a brick at the prospect of seeing them against Scotland on Wednesday - they turned up well at Murrayfield the Autumn before last too.

Can't wait for my Scotland season ticket to kick in. I missed it last year when I had to give it up to buy the flat and it's hellish not having the Autumn games this year :(

Lee
20-09-2015, 04:21 PM
I've enjoyed this today so far, so much so I'm choosing it over the football. No idea if these matches are objectively good or not but it's good fun. Might have to make more of an eefort to watch rugby, there's enough of it on.

Lewis

I've been a few times although not for a couple of years. I didn't like the politeness. Applauding the opposition for scoring, for fuck's sake. I don't own a Barbour jacket anyway so that counts me out.

Looking at South Africa's squad, and then thinking back to other sport codes(cricket is very guilty in this regard), where the experienced players seem to get more chances than they deserve, because "experience", it led me to a question: Since when has sport become such a sentimental entity, that leaving out talented youngsters, in order for older, more experienced, and clearly past it players, to play, become almost the norm? In the old days, people didn't give a shit(from what I've read)

Or does it just look that way now, but we are more exposed to it because of social media? In my view, these guys makes so much money these days, that sentiment should be even further away from what it was. If they hadn't made the money they do, then I'd say fine," these guys have given up more lucrative careers in the business sector, in order to represent their country, so lets give them some well deserved recognition".

Or am I just being bitter because Jean de Villiers has captained the Springboks to two of their most embarrassing defeats ever, home vs Argentina, and now against Japan?

Are Japan going to magically go back to being shite or what? I've seen Scotland play rugby many times and they are an absolutely terrible team, and yet rated to win by 20 here against a side coming off their greatest win ever. I suppose the jocks are fresher, but still.

I was right for the first 20 minutes before the TV market-pleasing tiredness bit.

It really is a joke how much the wee nations get screwed by the scheduling because they want big games at peak times. Just play them all at the weekend for goodness sake.
