With the notable exception of Embolo, who has looked like he won a raffle.
Yeah, I've seen the hype surrounding him. He's always failed to impress.
Schalke sold him for around £15m loss too.

That was poor. I lol at your live commentary of the bundesliga and mention that the Norwegian league is on Eurosport, tell you Taz where he can find some pointless league of Ireland tweets, and that it’s me embracing my English side.
Back to goading school for you my lad.
Next month I'll pick five fixtures at random from across world football and those will be the only ones anybody is allowed to talk about, to save all this confusion.

Hawk-Eye said it "unreservedly apologises", and acknowledged that the ball had gone over the line.
The company added it was the first time such an error had occurred in more than 9,000 matches using the system.
It explained that all seven of its cameras monitoring the goal were obscured by either the goalkeeper, a defender or the goalpost.

I also like how this 2020 Future Sport had two big failures of protocol on the first night (Hawkeye, David Luiz's double jeopardy red card). And there's a slight disinterest from the commentary team. Tyler and Neville are less up for it.
Savour this season, lads.
niko_cee
18-06-2020, 08:17 AM
Luiz's wasn't an error, you don't get reprieved if you aren't playing the ball so if the ref thinks the pull on the shoulder is a foul, and the forward is in on goal (which he was) then it's a red card. It's very harsh but it's technically legit.
The goal line one was just a complete catastrophe and makes you wonder how 'accurate' it is all the other times it has been used, seeing as it has been sold as being completely foolproof.
Every fucking stream had the crowd noise as default. That better end. Do people actually prefer it?
Did anyone watch the natural effects coverage? Could you hear everything clearly?
All said, still enjoyed both games so this should be a better month than I anticipated.
Shindig

Napoli beat Juve 4-2 on penalties last night to win coppa italia. I think that is the third time ive seen ronaldo still on the field during a penalty shootout and he didnt get to take one.
Either he was penalty number five but it was over before he got his turn or he was scared to death and was never going to take a penalty in the first place.

There seemed to be crowd noise for the Villa game, but not the City one, I'm pretty ambivalent towards it but then maybe it wasn't that intrusive in the first game as virtually nothing of interest actually happened.
I had the crowd noise on for half-watching the City game and didn't find it especially obnoxious. I probably edge it over the howling emptiness of a giant stadium driving home how boring the game actually is.
There seemed to be crowd noise for the Villa game, but not the City one, I'm pretty ambivalent towards it but then maybe it wasn't that intrusive in the first game as virtually nothing of interest actually happened.
I believe it's a choice - you can either have it on or not based on your feed.
Surely Sheffield United Twitter (and Hammer) are in meltdown over that ungiven goal? It could be the difference between Champions League football next season and not.
The PL came out and said the sound wasn't functioning properly for the Villa game, I think. I just find it distracting and that's before you spend a second thinking about the absurdity of the whole concept.

Is the fake noise played in the stadium or do Sky do it?
It's added onto the broadcast. Ben Foster was saying something about them playing crowd noise in the stadiums but only when the ball is out of play :cab:

He only does Vanarama games and Premiership reserve fixtures.

That ref (I mistakenly thought it was Paul Alcock who is, apparently, dead :|) was absolutely gagging to give United those penalties. Dier's such a pleb, although the first one was super soft, and, well, the second, VAR seemed unsure as to whether it should break the ref the bad news. 16 penalties this season? Some absolute beauties in there as well. That Norwich game. :harold:
Was thinking when Pogba came on that if the games continue in this low intensity, zero tempo vein then he'll be in his element. Be like being back in Serie A. Spurs ostensibly shutting up shop after about 50 minutes (was it earlier?) was pretty funny. Overall not sure either of those teams have it in them to catch Leicester or Chelsea so they'll need City to be banned for a Champions League spot to be coming their way.
We'll absolutely finish above Chelsea, and if Leicester continue their pre-lockdown form, they'll finish about 7th

Soft as in the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Bournemouth etc?
Man United would do better facing the top 4 repeatedly atm. The supposed easy games are the ones you know they'll come unstuck in.

When you take into account some of the iffy VAR decisions and last minute goals conceded etc Sheff United could have sealed top 4 already. Wilder has done great but second season syndrome has to happen.
Well that's nonsense. That side isn't built on anything but top class coaching. They're like Wolves last season but minus the individual talent of Neves, Moutinho, Jimenez, Jota. Wilder is the best English manager I've ever seen.
I see there's a spate of Championship players doing a Ryan Fraser. Most notable one I saw was Charlton's top scorer refusing to play due to risk of injury ruling him out of a 'dream move'. I don't know what Real Madrid are doing lining up a 30 year-old championship talisman but regardless, surely he can't do that.
Hull have lost half thier team over this contract nonsense. Relegation odds are currently 6/4. Pile on.

The Arsenal graph (as opposed to the Liverpool one) is massive excitement about signing *trendy foreign name from the continent*, jizzing as he arrives, the slow slide into gentle scepticism in the first 15 games, and then furious rage as he proves himself to be utterly inadequate and turns into a figure of fun.
They do it ALL THE TIME and never learn. Every single signing trumpeted as 'superb business' before a ball kicked.

Stats say 3, likely not counting today. 8 wins and 5 draws. The wing thing is political, to do with Aubameyang's failure to commit to a new contract. I don't necessarily agree with it but I also see it might not be the best thing putting all our eggs in his basket when he is making noises to fuck off anyway, could give those minutes to the strikers who will be staying.
As for the weak club thing, since 1990 Arsenal have won as many trophies (14) as 'this means more' Liverpool and their newfound 'uber winning mentality'.
Kroenke is Arsenal's Hicks and Gillette, just there to cash out his dividends and keep building his fancy new 2 billion dollar NFL stadium in the desert. It is no coincidence the club has been sliding further and further since he gained control and it will continue to do so until he either decides to sell or Arteta does a St Louis Rams and manages to put together an unfancied team who actually end up winning something.
There are massive problems at executive level, evidenced by the fact of an agent going on radio and publicly talking about a lot of Arsenal's problems whilst also discussing his clients (when was the last time you heard that, or indeed the same agent sitting in the director's box at games?).
Arteta and his staff have made the right noises about wanting to change the culture at the club and that isn't going to happen quickly. The worst thing this club can do now is start flipping managers like United, because they can't afford it. Short termism has got us here and only a long term rebuild and reshaping of philosophy (on the pitch and in the boardroom) will turn things around.

Catch 22 situation really with Auba as he scores goals and that's a valuable currency. Before Man City game you still had a small chance of getting back into Europe which would have helped any rebuild but I can't see that happening now at all. I don't know much about Kroenke other than he was battling with that other chap at board level for a long time (has he gone now?)
How do you change the culture at a club when it starts from the top down? Arteta doesn't strike me as the sort to call anyone out. It cost Rafa his job doing just that but at least the club changed too as a direct result. Perhaps Arsenal need something similar if Kroenke is indeed that bad. I mean, he's at least opened the coffers as the last three seasons you must have spent at least £300M+.
