I think enjoyment is the key aspect. You can appreciate and ponder, but to enjoy their work and relate on an emotional level might be difficult to come to terms with. There's probably an intent to dehumanise those outcast for the absolute worst crimes due to the shame of having once accepted them.

Ryan Adams is the most prominent one in this field for me at the moment. He got done for quite aggressively pursuing a fifteen year old about a year ago, and a bit of a #metoo pile-on ensued, with some fairly unsavoury stuff being said. He hasn't really resurfaced or said much about it since. I always understood him to be a bit of a cunt, it was just obvious. But this was all a bit much.

I still don't really know where I stand on it. I know I own all his albums and he's made some of my favourite music. But I also haven't listened to any of that music since. I haven't actively struck him off any sort of list, I've obviously just subconsciously steered clear of it.
