Anyone else play any instruments on here? Picked up something new during lockdown?

Produce electronic music or anything?

That's has been one huge positive for me in the lockdown. I've procuded music for a long time but I've got a fuck load done recently.

Nothing topped three lions on the shirt at school discos at the end of the night.

I attempted saxophone and drums when I was younger but sacked them off.

The older I get the more I'd love to play the piano though.

I thought a harmonica would be the easiest one to pick up but turns out I can barely fucking blow into a single hole without leaking air into the others so it's been a fucking shambles at the early stages.

Do plucked string instruments (or even a keyboard) require you to be able to read sheet music or should I make the jump?

If you like hip hop get a trial of ableton and serato sample. Just fucking sample other people playing instruments and you're on your way.

You gonna post up some bangers and mash or what?

Thanks. To be honest the only reason it did so well is because of the record label "lost fiction". They are The Nations (chill nation / trap nation) sub label.

Get your soundcloud up then.

How'd you manage that?

My other tracks have done okay on apple music and spotify. YouTube is a bastard. But the track got put on some youtube editorial instrumental hip hop playlist and the streams went mad.

I suspect that was label pulling power as the nations have a huge youtube presence.

YouTube pay is the fucking worst. Spotify not much better. Apple music seems okay. Had about 1million streams across all platforms. Earned fuck all.

I played saxophone throughout school, and (as you all know) have DJed for many years, although that sort of fell off when I began a professional career. Decided to get back into it for fun, though, so perhaps I'll have some content to post.

I am a world class lazy shite acoustic strummer and used to be able to sing. I'm better at the piano than either of those, but can't be arsed to practise anymore and only have space for a keyboard in my flat.

I've always wanted to get good at the guitar, but have really hit a ceiling as my fingers are just too lumbering to do barre chord changes quickly. Left index is like a white Shola Ameobi ffs.

I play bass, on and off. Mostly off nowadays. I was inspired to dig the old acoustic guitar out of the loft yesterday actually so the fingers on my left hand are now incredibly painful.

To be fair to me, though, I only bought it eight years ago.

I have a Roland TR-8S drum machine. Or rhythm performer as it it calls itself. There's no way of making it not sound wanky.

It's really good fun to fuck about on but about 6 months in I still haven't really got a clue what I'm doing. There's the technical aspect of it, which is knowing what all the settings do, and the creative aspect of putting it all together coherently, which is something my brain just isn't made for.

I think I find it a bit too organic and clean sounding, and I should have gone for a Machinedrum (https://youtu.be/XNirDv_epic), so I'm thinking of trading at some point.

Don't get me started on that little bitch. I ventured into the realms of two strings, last night, and D kept sticking his nose in where it wasn't wanted. Nothing to do with my clumsy strumming.

I've never been tempted to get a drum machine.

As for hardware I dont have too much. I have an Sp404sx and I used to have a PO33.

I am always tempted by the teenage engineering OP1 or Ableton push.

I have fiddled with Garageband on the ipad but nothing resulting, I have a beautiful 80's japanese Fender Strat I inherited that I have had set up again with a set of elixirs on but drifted off playing because I have an ongoing think where my hands peel like bastards including the finger tips. Want to start again while that has calmed down but I'm no great shakes. Always felt pressure as a kid because my Dad is god's gift to music.

I've played classical piano for ten years, and recently started playing guitar, I can sing a couple of Simon & Garfunkle songs but not much more. Been practicing both pretty inconsistently since I've been in quarantine. Piano's one of the best things in my life though, my financial goal in life is to be able to afford a nice piano where I live.

The high watermark of my piano career was nailing this down for about a year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KsF8-32rwI

Can barely play any of it now without taking handfuls of notes with me. Still think Joplin wrote the finest piano music there is, an opinion which violently triggers everyone in my uber-musical family.

I play the guitar (electric for the most part). Been playing it on and off for a lot of years now, but over the last few years it's mostly limited to learning songs that I like and playing them to the extent of my abilities, rather than properly practising with hand exercises etc. I can play basically most rhythm and some limited lead stuff.
