View Full Version : Stuff you've won
Posted this in Gamezine but might as well make a Fred out of it.
I won this today from a competition on Scan where you just had to retweet stuff, sign up for newsletters, blah blah blah.

It actually looks like a nifty bit of kit and I don't have anything for streaming on my telly but I think I'll sell it and it can go in the PC upgrade budget.
I think the last thing I won was Boglins, if you remember those (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pcor3EbCnP4), which I won from a competition in the Beezer comic, if you remember that (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beezer). Even better I insisted on entering from abroad (presumably with much eye-rolling from my parents given we were in a relatively small Turkish city where he was working) that we didn't even think my entry would get there. I remember it was months later and my mum came to pick me up from school and told me I had a parcel, and she was as suspicious as I was. I didn't get post at the age of ten so I had no idea why I'd be getting a parcel.
Anyway, tell us some stuff you've won.

£3100 on the local GAA lotto.

An iPad recently in a draw for a colleagues school.
I want one of those new Shields.
A football signed by the Walsall FC squad circa 1998.

The only thing I can remember winning was a football for having the STAR LETTER in Shoot magazine circa 1999.

All I've ever won is work raffles and awards. The latter has probably come to about £70 in vouchers. I remember getting a big NASA booklet with all the details of the Apollo and Gemini missions at school. That was legitimately cool. Not sure what I did to win it aside from being a smartarse.

I was briefly in the Beaver Scouts when I was about seven, which was just long enough to win some nationwide Christmas card design competition. I didn't win an actual prize, but I got my stupid face in the local paper. I posted about this before and said I would find the cutting, so I'll have to do that if I ever go home again.

Oh yeah, I won the Spanish prize at school. The prize was you got to choose a book about a related topic. I chose a biography of Senna, which was somehow allowed through even though he was a racing driver and spoke Portuguese.
I won a boss computer in ~2010 for voting Starcraft II as game of the year. Never even played it. :harold:
I still use the computer. Only thing I’ve done was add more RAM and upgrade the gfx card.
It’s still not bad for 10 years old too. Best thing I’ve ever won and I doubt it will be topped, unless I one day win copious amounts of money. :yn:

Did we know this? What show?

What did you write in about?

What did you write in about?
I argued that David Beckham should move abroad to further his career. Always a visionary, ahead of my time.

I might have mentioned it before I think, though I never would have said the show. It was only one episode though, not a long running thing.

I won the second prize in a raffle at our town's local music festival thing called Rhythms of the World almost 20 years ago.
I was actually chosen to draw the first prize winner (a DVD player) and saw my ticket in there (they had not folded them) but thought it would look shifty me drawing a ticket then saying "Oh wait a second that's mine" so pussied out.
The next kid then drew my ticket which was £50 worth of vouchers for a local shop that sells shit like incense and candles. I binned the vouchers.

Tenner on the first ever national lottery draw.
Lot's of bets. Some awards for my work that the company definitely paid these awards industry comapanies for.
Fuck all of real note.
When I was about 7 or 8, my sister entered a competition on Movies, Games and Videos (remember that?), probably for Take That tickets or some shit - she got second prize which was a massive box of K'NEX. Hours of fun.

Ian, that a decent win. Those things are like rocking horse shit right now. I am in the market for one like Giggles but wont be paying the 100% markup on Amazon Marketplace.
I havent wont a whole lot prize wise. I did win $100 recently from one of those surveys sent out by various stores. I tried Walmarts home delivery and did the survey after. A gift card just showed up.
Someone I know won a wedding through a local TV station and my step mum won a car at Asda years ago.
Edit: and I just saw your posts in the game thread about it :cab:

Did she win it in one of those "Last to stop touching X wins it?" competitions? If so, props to Mamma Danny.

Pretty sure it was just a raffle. It was long after I moved here so I never got the details.

A small terracotta warrior off Blue Peter is the only thing I can really recall ever winning.
A signed Manchester City football circa 96.
A Fitbit Versa 2.
£45m from a woman dying of cancer in Nigeria.
A signed Arsenal shirt the 88/89 season in a raffle. Still got it in a cupboard somewhere, I'll probably wash the car with it one day!
