View Full Version : QUARANTINE QUIZZING - TTH "Pub"Quiz Sign-Up Thread

Done a couple of QUIZZES with me my real life mates over skype. The simple format is that everyone has to write 10 questions, and you take it in turns being the quizmaster.

To stop people getting an unfair advantage by deliberately writing difficult questions, the quizmaster of each round also gets a score for their own round - the average score for everyone else.

Spose there's a few different places we could actually do it, but from personal experience skype seems the easiest, most stable and universally available programme.

Anyone interested? We've done it with 8 people and it's about right in terms of length of quiz etc.

That was all sorts of wild. I remember stumbling on the profile as well - I literally googled "Mahow webcam" out of boredom and it was the first result to pop up. We were genuinely concerned someone less nice would have come across it eventually given how easy it was to find.

Soz, 'how.

Stalking :D

A cunt would have posted it to the board or gone on the chat and humiliated him or something. We let him know the information was easily-accessible so he could take the appropriate steps to mask it, because I'd imagine he'd not want it getting out. It's not hard to comprehend, Giggles.

The group took a collective decision. We all love banter, but this was real life and nobody wanted you to get into actual shit. It seemed a sensible way of letting you know others could find out, without highlighting it to the world.

She played nice until the whole matter went to mediation. We had to fill out expense reports and she had listed stuff like £2k a month for a gardener (who doesn't exist), thousands on dentists every year, holidays etc etc to make it look like she had a lifestyle that is meant to be maintained.

She still wont allow us to see our little brother (it's been 4 years since I've seen him) and my Dad also left me his Rolex in the will. However he had two but didn't specify the exact one. One was his and the other was one that he bought my Mum when they were together which is worth a lot less, hasn't got a chance of fitting me and has no sentimental value to me. Obviously she gave me that one and said that she doesn't know where the other is.

He'll be 13 later this year.

I sent him an Xbox for the Christmas right after mediation which I only knew was delivered because of tracking (no idea if she let him keep it or even tell him it came from me) and I've also sent Birthday cards/money/gifts with my number on.

Also in mediation she almost de-railed the whole thing right at the end (at like 3am and we had been there since 9am) because she refused to pay her son's solicitors costs of £7k despite basically now being a millionaire.

Sent stuff to my Brother to make him know I'm still there and care and I did take up the watch stuff with my solicitor but because my Dad didn't specify model etc I'd lose a court battle because I have A rolex watch that was owned by him.

Vaguely on the topic, I did a quarantine pub quiz earlier with my m8s which was fine (we had 1 quizmaster rather than many, though), and I've had other quarantine video calls with family etc - all I can say is that although it's better than nothing, my god is it nowhere near the experience of being with people in person. Nowhere near.

Having not done conferencing etc before I thought it would be a close second but it really isn't.

Aye I get that, but I actually much preferred the actual quiz with my boiz cus we're all dorks with similar levels of intelligence, and a similar obsessive appreciation of the META of quizzes. Most pub quizzes we've done IRL have led to us mostly moaning about awfully worded questions, poor difficulty balance, etc.

The absolute worst quiz we did had about 7 teams. We got about 90% right and finished 2nd last. Wtf is that.

Or, my personal pet peeve in quizzes, is musical intro rounds where some people will nail it within a few seconds, but the quizmaster let's the fucking song run for practically a whole verse and chorus by which point every cunt has it.

For a taster I'll share the round I wrote:

As an example I've been trying to think of that astronaut's surname for the last ten minutes and all I can come up with is Tim Palin. And for the chess player I have 'Tiger Petrosian', as if he moonlights fist-pumping on the greens. I need to soak in cold water for a month.

You have come the closest to getting the chess player by an absolute mile, and I've given these questions to about 14 people. It's Tigran, and I mostly just put that q in as a token dickhead impossible question, so I'd have probably given you the point.

Average score was 4, highest 6.

Yeah. I mean, with that one I just happen to know it (chess 50s-90s is a weird niche speciality) - but normally I'd either know something or I wouldn't. Currently I'm in a haze of vagueness where I am unable to summon the things I do know.

Hey igor_balis in the subject of quizzing over zoom or whatever, how do you deal with marking the answers to prevent cheating?

Yeah as Kikó alludes to, trust is the easiest method. It helps that my gang of pals would never cheat, out of a pathetic nerdy respect of the integrity of quizzes, but just to put everyone's minds at rest we've been generally following the system of:

1. everyone writes their answers on their computer
2. everyone copies and pastes and PMs them to @Bam the quizmaster
3. everyone marks their own, and reads out their scores

That way, even if you can't be arsed to actually check them, the option is there if you smell a rat, or someone bitter moans about another person's high score.

Jimmy Floyd
26-04-2020, 10:31 PM
3 is the only non-boring option. If you're cheating on a Zoom quiz at this point in proceedings then there is no hope for you anyway.

We're two weeks into our family quiz. We came last (just) in the first week, scoring 24/50. My sister and her fiance won, meaning they hosted last week. That was a much harder quiz and we scored a mid-table/bottom half 19 (scores ranging between 14 and 26), with my parents winning overall. My dad's given me a hint this week to learn about the counties.

We do number three from the list above: just mark our own.

SvN
27-04-2020, 09:02 AM
We send answers at the end of each round to the quizmaster, who then tots up the scores. I somehow won the music quiz last night with a score of 109/180. I expected to come dead last, but we only really did pop and rock songs.

If anyone wants to know what my family is like, the winning score in yesterday's affair was 17/40 (my last placed total was 11.5) and my sports round was the highest scoring round at an average of 4/10 (only one of the other 6 people is a sports fan).

One of the rounds was there were screenshots of sheet music, i.e. musical notation, and we had to identify the piece/song and who wrote it. I can read music well and scored zero.

I think i could probably identify Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and La Marseillaise. There’s no chance i would get any other piece

One of them I managed to work out what it was, but couldn't remember what the thing was actually called (turned out to be the Skater's Waltz). There was also something by the Bee Gees, and something by Britney Spears (for that one, I guessed Handel).

But yeah, the person who set that round should set himself on fire. He doesn't even like music, he just fancied a spot of sadism.

There's an assumption I'll always do well in the sports round, whereas in reality I'm average and would be just as likely to score higher on history, geography, film or music. We've started with a picture round the past two weeks: week one it was children's TV programmes (many from our generation) and last week it was flags of the world. Even on the flags I only managed six which was a great disappointment. Arts and literature I'm pretty much useless.

My sister made a point that you're only *supposed* to score around 40% on a quiz. If and when I host I've created some zany literacy and maths SATs based questions, partly for my own amusement but I'm genuinely interested in whether people can answer them.

With the recent rise in popularity of Zoom quizzes, and me mentioning Ale or Horse in rl at every possible chance, I made two Ale or Horse Powerpoint quizzes, than can be used over screen share:

2. Who was the Prime Minister of England when World War 2 started?
3. In what year was the first Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game released on Playstation?
4. How many series of The X-Files are there?
5. How old is Mike?
6. In America, Rawlings is the official manufacturer of balls for which professional sport?
7. When a player creates a character in World Of Warcraft Classic, they start their journey as a level 1. What is the maximum level a character can reach?
8. Daniel Hernandez is a musician better known by what name?
9. On 25th May 2005, Liverpool won the Champions League final against AC Milan. What was the score after 90 minutes?

Baz why are you so obsessed with 6ix9ine?I really enjoy his music, and his life story is very interesting. Him being so accessible probably helps a lot. Like there’s no point being obsessed with someone you never see anything about or hear from. :sorry:
