Cleaning the car and hoovering are my domain, ironing and washing pots I simply cannot endure.

Discuss.

I've got a pan to clean before I can even start my tea.

I like inside work and hate outside work.

Baz

They stop being chores once you move out of your parents house, surely?

-james-

Dishes are easily the worst chore, regardless of your set-up.

Spikey M

I don't have chores. I'm an adult.

Jimmy Floyd

Ironing is the biggest faff going. By now somebody should have developed technology to achieve the same results without me having to unfold a 5 foot board on legs and heat a metal pan to a billion degrees.

Anything that involves house infrastructure is a joy. Every single item of furniture in my flat was built from flatpack in the course of 10 days last October, and to be honest I doubt I'll ever experience such a happy time again.

I have the perfect solution to ironing. Don't fucking bother.

Worst chore is easily putting a duvet back into its sheet

Nah. Anything you come out of with a sense of accomplishment but only takes about three minutes to do is fine by me.

Starting with the cover inside out makes it much easier.

I come out of it with a strong negative emotion that I can't really describe

Jimmy Floyd

Corners in the corners and shake it down, nice and easy technique.

Putting a sheet on a mattress I find more infuriating.

Spikey M
10-04-2020, 11:15 AM
Putting the sheet on is easy. You're not using a 'flat sheet' are you? You're going in the weirdo thread if you are.

Jimmy Floyd
10-04-2020, 11:18 AM
No, a fitted one, but I always put too much material in one corner and there's not enough left when I do the third or fourth. However, the smooth look upon final completion is worth it I guess.

Correct.

Shirts have to be ironed if you're wearing a suit. There's no way around that.

Waffdon
10-04-2020, 11:28 AM
I’m not great at it but you have to iron shirts and polo shirts, surely.

Spikey M
10-04-2020, 11:29 AM
You iron everything that isn't underwear if you're not a slob.

Jimmy Floyd
10-04-2020, 11:32 AM
I only iron tops and only if it's the outermost layer and I'm going somewhere where it matters. Pullover over shirt is my normal work attire which gets me off the hook most of the time.

I have a friend who irons his socks. The friend status was hanging by a thread after I heard that.

Mike

This. People are to polite to point it out, but if you aren't ironing your clothes, people have noticed. I iron everything apart from underwear and socks.

This.

After I wash my clothes I'll hold the base of shirts and shake/wave (as if using it to try and fan a fire) to reduce creases when they dry.

Iron formal clothing yes, but iron anything casual and you're a huge tryhard

Spikey M
10-04-2020, 12:37 PM
I prefer my t-shirts not to look like my ball bag.

Lewis
10-04-2020, 12:41 PM
Let somebody else wear them then.

Pepe

The only reason I don't wear my shirts to work is that I hate ironing.

I hate all chores. Each and every one of them.

Raoul Duke

I had to iron a shirt at my Father In Law's place and realised that ironing is much easier if you have some decent kit. They have this badass steam iron thing that makes it easy. I'm totally buying one once I move.

Pepe
10-04-2020, 12:49 PM
I thought the same, so I bought the best iron I could buy. It still sucks.

This.

Hanging or folding does 90% of the job, the only thing I do are shirt collars and a couple of work ones.

Dunno if it really counts as a chore but I cba starting a new thread. Peeling potatoes is so fucking satisfying. I could do it for hours.

Giggles

I rarely peel them any more since I started growing them.

Baz
04-11-2021, 08:48 PM
Away lassy, don't be peeling me spuds now. I've grown dem from scratch ya see. These fine things aren't for peeling, nevermind cooking now.

My cleaner is having a shoulder surgery, so she will be out for a few weeks. I looked for and hired a (more expensive) substitute for those weeks. Better than having to do the cleaning myself.

If you keep your house tidy and just want someone to come in every so often to just do the deep cleaning stuff I think it is worth it, just means you aren't having to faff around with it in your free time. I clean the kitchen down everytime I wash up. It's more the mopping, shower scrubbing etc I am happy to palm off for a price.

Shindig

I've not found it a problem whilst working from home. When I'm back at the office, it's going to slide so much.

Cleaning the bath / shower is the absolute pits as far as household chores go.

Whazz HG Mould Remover all over it, taking care not to get any on you because you will dissolve, wait 15 minutes and then blast everywhere with the shower head on full power.

Baz

Whazz is a verb.

To apply with pizzazz.

Ian

Yeah I figured that out right after I'd finished wonder what hellish product was called "Whazz."

Jimmy Floyd

Is it related to 'swazz', i.e. the spin on a football that makes a sweetly hit medium to long-range pass swerve and zip off the turf?
