Here are a few questions to keep you going. Some are easy, some are tough, some are just silly. If you like these I'll do some more another time.

I genuinely don't have a clue for any of these.

They're all cryptic and/or silly but I'd have thought at least some of the picture ones would be very gettable. Whatever, you've got months ahead of you, try harder.

Hints:
1 is very hard, almost pointlessly so, but I thought it was funny. It concerns the careers of those players, and the order in which I have written the list matters.
2 is staring you in the face.
3 is about the players in those teams.
4 is pretty easy, I may even have done the same question or something like it before.
5 they are all sets of things and I want you to provide a picture that might represent another from the same set.

Hydro heavy's going to be some rich mountain place isn't it, like Switzerland or somesuch?
What other geothermal places are there? New Zealand has a bit of that, no? Also they're quite green generally.

Yeah, always strange. I guess you can sell oil for more exporting than domestically.

Think more places with large rivers. One particularly managed to piss of all their neighbours by building multiple dams quite recently. And also, strangely, 2 relatively "poor" mountain places.

Although, yeah, no chance is that other goethermal one New Zealand if Iceland's population of 400k people uses/generates 20GWh. Everywhere other than the top one must be tiny places.

Yeah, they'll all be fairly small population wise. It just isn't sustainable yet for anything bigger.

What I don't get is why you couldn't put the solar power plants in the desert. Is the transporting of it once you've harnessed it prohibitively expensive?

Quite topical here at the moment. We're shipping coal in from Indonesia to keep the lights on because it's a 'dry' hydro year. Industrial businesses are closing shop because wholesale electricity prices are through the roof. Industries that utilise gas in production are funnily also closing because it's more profitable to just sell the gas for generating electricity.
The green part is just a great advertising campaign.
So.... no, not New Zealand.

Transporting/storing electricity/energy is the main problem isn't it? Also, people want more electricity at night etc. Not sure that specific list is a fair way to attack solar though, more that solar can't be, or hasn't yet been, used in significant quantities by the tiny places that have reached 100% renewable usage.

Based purely off of a YouTube video I watched, yes, pretty much. Deserts are far from civilisation. You lose much of what you net "transporting" it and battery tech is nowhere near where we need it to be to transport it that way.

What I don't get is why you couldn't put the solar power plants in the desert. Is the transporting of it once you've harnessed it prohibitively expensive?
Yes. Also solar produces the most when you need it the least and vice versa, so storage is essential.

Ethiopia mainly burns wood, which is renewable but rarely what people think about when they hear the word renewable.

I think I would have got South Georgia before Albania.
Yevrah
26-09-2024, 01:32 PM
Yeah, that isn't properly renewable energy. If you could grow a tree in a month it might be, but as it is excitement over.
In fact, how close are we to growing a tree in a month? Shouldn't we be looking at that rather than growing ears on mice?
Spikey M

I only got it because of the river and "pissing their neighbours off" clue.

This thread has me googling, "How fast can we grow a tree?" and "Can we grow gigantic broccoli?" I'm disappointed by both answers.
Algae is the 'quick growing tree' option. As with most things, just not economically viable to be worth it at this point.
Spikey M
26-09-2024, 01:41 PM
If burning wood is sustainable because you can grow new trees, then burning coal and oil is sustainable for the same reason.
Climate crisis SOLVED. Nobel Prize now please.
