It's not really. It's a fairly simple case of not giving us acres of space behind / between your back line to run into.

Entirely predictable.

That doesn't explain the abysmal defending so far this game. Even in earlier games we've lost, our defence has mostly been fairly solid.

We're all over the place so far today.

How come Obafemi was playing? I thought the manager had took a big disliking to him.

He's just fourth choice. Long is injured and we rested Ings so hes fresh for Palace on Saturday.

Supposedly he's quite highly rated around the club.

Garbage goalkeeping but whatever.

That doesn't explain the abysmal defending so far this game. Even in earlier games we've lost, our defence has mostly been fairly solid.

True, but when you can say of a defence that they've got a fuck up in them (which as you say, is where the goals against us in this sort of game tend to come from) this sort of defensive performance isn't that much of a surprise.

It's unfortunate Kanté got his foot into that move by Southampton, but, regardless, if City had scored such a goal you'd be hearing about it for weeks. Coupled with Ayew's there have been some serious threats to De Bruyne's goal of the month today.

I'm a casual observer at best but it seems to me that far from shoring things up Big Tony R has been absolute bobbins for Chelsea since his much anticipated return.

Gray Fox
28-12-2019, 05:01 PM
Yes but it must be deemed the referee made a "clear and obvious error."

The problem is all we see is a guy holding his finger to his ear. Whereas really they should be going over to check the pitchside monitor.

For some reason they can't look at free kicks that lead to goals though.

Big win for us. Everyone should watch Mooy's goal when it's on Sky Sports/MOTD/wherever, it's a beaut. He must be up there with the best transfers of the summer if you go on current season impact alone. Hope we can get him permanently.

Another armpit decision from VAR for the Burns no-goal.

Bournemouth were beyond shit tbf so it's difficult to gauge, I don't think you were all that good but his goal was. I missed your first, the VAR decision was another bullshit one as was the check on the penalty that Bournemouth wanted. I'm really starting to dislike it whether it's a right decision or not because they are so minuscule that it's not clear and obvious. I don't think a single Bournemouth player even complained about Burn's goal but then after that sort of defending you'd question why they'd bother.

Big problems for them I think.

You didn't even mention Mooy in your review of Brighton's best signings, so that must have been some goal if it's put him alongside the best in the league. I like him though, he always seemed a cut above the rest of the squad at Huddersfield.

Two like that today. The reasoning from the commentators makes absolutely no sense. ‘Coming back from an offside position’. What? The ball wasn’t even played forward then.

Gray Fox
28-12-2019, 06:14 PM
They even redrew the lines on the pitch when it showed as onside the first time.

The referee should be looking at that on the monitor, not trusting some fuckwit 100 miles away. You can see there's no advantage gained.

Why did they draw the line from the Norwich player down from his armpit and not from his elbow which was further forward though? Or is it by the body only? Though that makes no sense as they used the defenders knee.

Bournemouth were pretty dreadful today, something looks to be seriously wrong there. Troubling times when Watford and a few of the teams below them look to be getting their act together. Could be a few teams who are 'too good to go down' looking nervously over their shoulders. Hopefully Brighton aren't one of them. I think they should have enough to stay reasonably clear of trouble.

Mooy was the difference between the two teams. Brighton weren't great, but an early goal really helps them. That's the third VAR decision against Dan Burn this season I think, and seemingly the most farcical. I thought things were reset when an opposition player touches the ball (isn't this what we were told with the Kane penalty against Liverpool whenever that was)?
