Also yes if you're listening to it in your head it certainly counts as well.
Whatever part of the brain controls that is definitely a bit broken in me and leads to odd, unprompted gear changes in what I've got in my head so this could get interesting.

Not heard them before, but I like those two tracks. The first one as you say is about 25 years ahead of its time (although as it goes on I also get certain Blur/Britpop vibes from it, which would make it a mere 15 years ahead of its time). I cannot hear any of 1978 in it, which is impressive. The second one is just a nice tight version of what many were doing in the early 80s. With the bouncing slap bass underneath and jangling guitar on top, it's quite Smithsy in a way.

I very secretly liked MCR at the time that came out (among the various very secret things I was up to). Not sure the sound has translated across 15 years though, listening now. I find myself wanting a cleaner sound than the screaming and choking on the guitars in it, and I think his style of singing has been left in the 2000s as well.

Karenn have finally released *that* (https://youtu.be/uVsfzprO7zs?t=3439) song from the end of their 2014 boiler room set. Their live sets are all "improvised"/off the cuff but I reckon they've been constantly inundated with people asking "OMG what's that song" and attempted to recreate it.
Anyway, it's nowhere near as good and is actually pretty fucking boring (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSbmvzWRjoY). Goes along with the trend of them being pretty much the best live act I've seen but just a run of the mill techno act in the studio. I think everything ends up too polished when they have time to think about it. Shame.

I gave it a background listen and thought it was ok. Mostly seemed to be closer to his electronic stuff which I am not crazy about (most of it). Much prefer Carrie & Lowell-type efforts.
It's not even similar to Age of Adz, though, because it's mostly drum machines and bleep bloops. It sounds quite like the random instrumental albums he's released over the years: Enjoy Your Rabbit and Aporia.
Takes a few listens, but there are definitely some top, top Sufjan tracks on there. The title track is fantastic, as is Tell Me You Love Me (posted above). A lot of it is very samey, however, so it doesn't rank highly in his catalogue overall. I'd give it 7/10 probably.

Top artists were Julian Cope, Michael Kiwanuka, Dan Deacon, The Drones and Ween. Top track is Boredom by The Drones (great song), but even that only has 15 plays or so. I think I'll make it a New Year's resolution to seek out more new music, as most artists I'm listening to nowadays I've known for some time. never expected to have an emo/post-punk phase in my life, especially not in my 30th year on this planet, but i'm quite enjoying the album sing the sorrow by AFI

"True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and slipped and fell," they posted online. "She will always be here with us."
The full moon? A thing that you can see regularly each month from ground level or safely inside your house?

What's not to like. It's awesome.
Also, why is this so good:

I haven't seen any evidence that the UK's terrible recent Eurovision record is to do with Brexit. The problem is that the UK doesn't give a shit about doing well, or put any effort into doing so. Every bottom five finish has been thoroughly deserved.
This year's entry, while absolutely awful, probably has greater potential than any UK entry in a while. We'll see.

Awesome. I love how they've overlaid ambient outside sounds over what I assume are studio quality vocals.

Gilles doesn't usually play full albums on his show (Sault's is the only one I recall last year and that didn't disappoint) but this recent one is something truly beautiful. Close the thread because this is the only thing we'll all need to listen to for the remainder of our time.

Thanks - that’s lovely. It sounds like a slowed down Californication-era Frusciante solo. Then it morphs into some Ratatat.
Going to bed with Chris Rock’s filthy epilogue from Blame Game in my head now.

Darkness on the edge of town is great, probz my fave springsteen album.
It's definitely right up there. Nebraska is always top of the pile for me though. Tunnel of Love is the most underrated. Born in the USA is the most overrated.

This'll easily go down as song of the year for me. Two months on and it still gets me going.
I really haven't been with the music as much since lockdown ended for reasons I'm not sure of but who the fuck is Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and why is he releasing the tune of the year as of 4 days ago?

Billy Bragg singing about Wikipedia is making me cringe to the depths of my soul. You're just a click away from all of the facts.
Quite like it though.
Got a free trial of Apple Music from O2 and it’s well good. Stuck it on shuffle and it’s ALL my old music from my computer. Gone from Fightstar to Mudvayne to Andrew Bird and Eminem’s up next.

Not sure many have done the late 90s/early 00s chart pop imitation better than this. Those synth stabs are massaging my brain.

Not really sure where to put this, but just heard Nickelback Rockstar on Radio 1 and thought it had some interesting blank spots on the 2025 radio edit [which presumably doesn't get itself out and about that much], notably 'eat' being removed from We'll all stay skinny, 'cause we just won't eat and 'drug dealer' being dropped from Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial. I mean, really?
