Are we all aware of this. After the excellent decision to host 2022 Qatar World Cup in Winter, FIFA have decided to use the prior summer to hold another club tournament, replacing the planned 2021 Confederations Cup.

24 teams, almost 3 weeks, held in China.

AFC (Asia) have just hinted that one of the AFC spots could go to the winner of the new ASEAN Club Championship... :/
The qualification process for each association hasn't been confirmed yet.

CAF: 3
AFC: 3 (not including host nation)
UEFA: 8
CONCACAF: 3
CONMEBOL: 6
OFC: 0.5 (Host nation (China) team will play-off against the OFC team for the final spot).

8 groups of 3, group winner proceeding to the quarter-finals.

Can't wait for some MASSIVE games...
Real Madrid v Chiangrai United
Liverpool v Toronto
Flamengo v Mamelodi Sundowns

Just one slight hiccup.... the European Club Association want their teams to boycott the tournament.

This is going to be incredibly shit. The Confederations was alright.

The idea is bad enough as it is, but 8 groups of 3 puts a whole new sewage-based spin on it.

Just stick the continental winners in a quick pre-season nothing-about.

Wouldn't most of Al Ahly's team have been playing for Egypt at the AFCON? Extra shame on Pepe's boys if so.

6 Al Ahly players were with Egypt. Surely the end for Mexican football as a whole.

I have a feeling we might get done by Al Hilal. We've been dross for about two months now and they will have the righteous fury of Geordies everywhere on their side.

Groups of 3 must be the worst idea anyone has ever come up with.

matheus pereira plays for them. He had a field day against Chelsea last year. 4-1 Al Hilal if Lukaku isn’t dropped

3 down against West Brom, the halcyon days of the Lampard era.

Tuchel let in 5 to them. At least Lampard got the draw in the end

So he did. I have absolutely no recollection of that having happened.

Was that when they were in full bin it for the Champions League mode?

Not sure it was that, more Chelsea continuing their theme of getting battered once a year by an awful team

The final Club World Cup before the massive expansion is currently taking place in Morocco.

Al Ahly knocked out Auckland City and then Seattle Sounders to face Real Madrid in the first semi on Wednesday.
In the other side of the draw, Al-Hilal beat Wydad Casablanca on pens and now face Flamengo is the other semi.
Thrilling stuff.
