I mean that story actually broke over the weekend but I missed it.

Anyway, this month we have a load of probably mostly a bit meaningless Champions League group games, United probably being as bad in the league as they have ever been in my lifetime, the continued adventures of Sir Gareth Waistcoat and the tragic Tuesday-ruining news that tonight's FA Trophy match between City of Liverpool and Tadcaster Albion has had to be postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. Sorry to end this on a downer, lads.

Massive month for Vietnam national team for 2022 World Cup qualification. At home to Malaysia (10/10) and then away to Indonesia (15/10) - if we pick up 4pts, then we are set really well in Group G. Home game to Malaysia could get a bit tasty - VFF have requested that Malaysian fans do not march through Hanoi prior to the game - which, of course, has only increased the odds of that happening.

Domestically, 2 games left in the Wake Up 247 V.League 2019, however, Hanoi already crowned Champions, with my team, Ho Chi Minh City guaranteed 2nd. At the bottom, it's still a bit of a tussle between a bunch of relatively big clubs not used to being down there; 2 of Khanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, HAGL, Hai Phong and Viettel. The powers that be will not allow HAGL or Viettel to go down, so it's likely to be Khanh Hoa and either Thanh Hoa or Nam Dinh.

Oh, and Hanoi play the second leg of the Inter-zone Play-off final of the AFC Cup against April 25 of North Korea, 2-2 from the first leg. The winners to play in the actual final against either Al-Jezeera (JOR) or Al-Ahed (LEB), currently 0-0.

Thrilling stuff.

I remember them putting out his half time team walk which could be summised as 'Get tight to them, when you have the ball in the middle, get it wide for Ronaldo'.

Yet he still did something no other manager has come close to replicating in the modern game.

As for the Chelsea quartet, Drogba owns a club, Lampard is still cutting his teeth, Terry the same at Villa as a coach and Cech is on board at Chelsea all of which makes your statement every bit as fraudulent as those who still think Guardiola only won because of Messi.

More specifically, the board opted to not sell + reinvest this summer, which was much needed as we’ve had nearly the exact same squad for years and a lot of the players just want to go somewhere new. Instead, they shooed away bidders, made sure the old guard stayed, and signed a couple of replacements. We’ve been going downhill since the start of 2018, last year was flukey in all respects

niko_cee

If Einstein were still alive, he probably wouldn’t have a clue about the offside rule. We have a different kind of intelligence.

Hector, mate, it's not the photoeletric effect. I reckon he could get his head around it.

Although perhaps VAR is heading towards the idea of quantum offside, so maybe he is onto something. I hear Albert wasn't a fan.

Reg
01-10-2019, 09:42 PM
Isn't that worth riding out though? You're not going to get a better manager than him anytime soon, so see off the guys who don't want to be there next summer, try get a couple of new faces to join the three that came this year, and suddenly the squad's fairly different.

mugbull
01-10-2019, 09:49 PM
Isn’t that pretty much what got Ranieri sacked by Leicester though? He’d done an amazing thing but he had ridden his horse as far as it could go and it was clear someone new had to take the reins. I mean i would love for Pochettino to build a dynasty but it doesn’t seem to me like he’s cut out for it. It also really doesn’t seem like he wants to be here anymore.

We’re a different club than we were 7 years ago, we could get in a decent manager who could at least figure out how to balance a midfield. Even if he isn’t a charismatic father figure like daddy Poch is.

Silva being banned isn't going to make a jot of difference to City, you'd have to ban about 5 of their attackers before you started seeing a noticeable difference in their play.

Of course it's ridiculous, but this is the world as it is. Hysterical overreaction has to be applied with an even hand. I would imagine, however, any ban he might get will be suspended with a warning as to future conduct - ie in the future don't post images of golliwogs or the like as banter.

IIRC, you get a certain amount of cup games a season so if you go to this one you'll have to pay for the Quarter Final etc.

or you have to buy these tickets to get enough points to get you tickets for the semi/final, one of the two.

Tough first half that. Leicester defending quite well, but even so this should be 3-0. I suspect 1-0 will not be enough to take the win.

Wijnaldum annoys. The version that plays for Holland is much better on the ball and with his runs forward.

I also look forward to teams identifying and doubling up on Mané, thus leaving Salah more open. That surely wont be far off.

I think Newcastle and Watford are pretty safe bets to go down but Everton could be the third.

What did Casemiro do?

Last weekend, I got a month of Premier Sports. Unfortunately their La Liga coverage has the same commentary team as Eleven Sports did. I like Graham Hunter but not sure about him on co-comm. There's Inter-Juventus and Barcelona-Sevilla to choose from tomorrow.

Edit: Just realised I posted in here without mentioning our game today. That was strange, and fun. "We're Brighton and Hove Albion, we're taking the piss" and dillydallying on the ball, passing it around to sarcastic "wheeey!"s when 3-0 up probably means we've MADE IT as a Premier League team now.

Potter changed to 4-4-2 which was unexpected and strange, and it worked very well. Spurs were poor though. I expect Shearer on MOTD to say, "First of all, before I get onto Tottenham, Brighton were absolutely fantastic" before the entire punditry is about Spurs without us getting another mention.

Salah had got passed one defender and was breaking towards the center of the box on a good counter.
Choudhury did one of those "take it for the team" tackles but he caught Salah quite hard twisting his ankle up a bit. He had to limp off not long after.

I remember thinking that challenge he did in the U21s in the summer against France was a cracker (what was the ref thinking?) then I saw it from the other angle, penalty red card :D. He does seem to have a bit of a penchant for the very rash. That was a pretty bad 'challenge'. In the context of going for the ball it's probably nothing much to worry about, but when you are just trying to take someone out it gets a bit murky. Taking one for the team is usually more of a gentle affair.

They probably need to come to Anfield and win now though. I suppose the World Club thing could throw a spanner in the works down the line, and you never know who might get injured.

The United game next up should be interesting. They are absolutely not. They've been very very lucky to win all of their games so far.

On another day they could easily have dropped points vs Sheffield United. Were far from convincing against Chelsea or Southampton. Took a last minute penalty to win yesterday (though it was a deserved win really).

City and Liverpool's points tallies could easily be reversed at this stage.

Although I don’t disagree with the sentiment we have missed some very good chances in all those games to put the result beyond doubt before the other team have had their chances. Last week being a good example we missed three absolute sitters.
