A little late, but whatever. At least it's in time for the international break, everybody's favourite part of the season.

Coming up this month we have MK Dons and Wimbledon being chippy at each other, the MAGIC OF THE CUP returns as qualifying rounds are under way with glamour ties such as Thatcham vs. Salisbury, the first every women's Manchester Derby (I think?) and the Champions League group stages are BACK to be mostly a bit dull.

Meanwhile, in Italy, Inter Milan fans have said that unlike other countries Italy doesn't have a racism problem and Cagliari fans are only doing monkey chants because they respect black players so damn much.

Yeah, I was going to start something with the Inter fans as the theme. Fucking mental.

You have to understand that Italy is not like many other north European countries where racism is a real problem

:D

Also, are there random AFCON games going on during the week after this international window? Soccerway seems to think so, are they mistaken?

Also if a modmin could change the poll title so it doesn't have that stray 'l' in front of 'show' that'd be grand.

I would like to see players from both teams, if a player suffers racist abuse. To walk off the field and refuse to play the game.

That will never happen though.

Yup. Incredible stuff. The Italian FA aren't going to do anything meaningful, the fans clearly dont care - so unfortunately, it's down to the players to act.

The best part about that article was him accusing Walters of living off things he did ages ago, as if Keane has done anything of note since about 2002. He's fucking hateful.

He's been having a fresh go at Ferguson today too, so as you say he must have felt the media offers beginning to get a bit thin on the ground and he's doing a bit of shouting to remind people he exists.

As someone, I can’t recall, said on the radio earlier he’s built a persona and is desperately trying to stay fitting into it now. He’s some fucking neck talking about commitment though.

Lewis
06-09-2019, 08:37 PM
Whether or not he's into rent-a-quote territory, I don't think it's a persona. That story about him drunkenly coating off half the Liverpool team in the nineties would suggest he's always been like this.

phonics
06-09-2019, 08:52 PM
I could do with him not telling everyone to get over everything he's ever said/done to them when he's still moaning about sleights that pre-date the Good Friday Agreement.

Can't remember when it was but someone said Roy Keane loves football but hates footballers which seems bang on and why he'll never succeed.

He'd probably have more success and a happier life moving back to Cork and coaching the local kids.

07-09-2019, 05:23 PM
Bizarre. Gracia did a good job last season. They've chucked him because they're bottom after four games, but they've looked alright tbh. Their problem is that the defence is championship standard.

Josh

Well before Newcastle where we stole a draw, we actually lost 7 games in a row against premier league opposition. Since the fa cup semi final we only beat a terrible, relegated Huddersfield side.

This season we have been pretty awful despite what Dino says. I've had the displeasure of watching every game. We had our moments in the games against West Ham and Everton but when you look like conceding every time the opposition is on attack and don't fix the same mistakes it is hard to say 'we've looked alright'

The crux of the issue as it is with most sackings it the inability to change. Using the same players in the same formation and ignoring other players who have been screaming out for minutes. I've been frustrated with him since April but was on the fence about the sacking until the Newcastle game. We went up there and timewasted from the first minute. We left deulofeu, sarr and welbeck on the bench and gave 5 minutes in total to them despite them being fit enough to play in the week. It was a mess and a case of a manager who has completely lost his way and run out of ideas. Newcastle are terrible, they looked awful and were there for a straightforward 3 points. Only then was I confident he should leave.

Granted our defence is championship standard at best. It has been neglected since the first season in the Prem and it is ridiculous how little we spend on it. Dawson is the latest penny pinching signing and has looked the championship level defender we signed.

The same old 'watford sacking their managers regularly thing' is as tired as hell nowadays. Have a look how many managers we have had compared with other teams who are a similar level since returning to the premier league. We are not abnormal, teams like Palace and Southampton sack their managers with far more regularity. It's actually a decent yardstick for Watford fans, anyone that mentions that doesn't actually know anything about the club.

Resigning QSF is lol though. Watford have always felt like they have a direction since the Pozzos took over. This appointment, I'm not so sure. He played terrible football last time but had far worse midfield and attacking options so we will see. He organizes a defence far better than Gracia ever will be able to but he is potentially more stubborn and certainly isn't as good with the players. Add to that he probably has a worse back 4 than last time he was here (which is unforgivable by the Watford heirarchy) and he may be in for a tough time. Our midfield would suggest we are 'too good to go down'. I'm not so sure, I hope QSF does a good job.

lol at 'Manchester City Legends'. It makes me think of this (http://therepublikofmancunia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/nokaka.jpg).

They should stop doing testimonials. The players don't need the money anymore (I was under the impression that Matt Le Tissier ruined it for everyone giving his to charity, but apparently not [unless he had two?]), and charities probably only end up with about a fiver once all the costs are accounted for (and even then they could all just chuck money in and save regular saddos the expense).

The SFA are absolute jokers which doesn’t help. They have enough decent players but the lack of centre halves or striker doesn’t help much. Ryan Fraser, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, Scott McTominay, John McGinn, James Forrest, Ryan Christie and even Olly McBurnie are all good players for their teams at a decent level. The talent is much better than it has been recently.

Billy Gilmour could have done with being a defender rather than an another midfield player for when he breaks through.

Mount, Abraham and James had sort of high hopes around them to various degrees, but Tomori is a real bonus. No idea how we will cope with the CL games but whatever.

Very similar to last seasons game at Napoli in that we seemed to struggle with the conditions. Should have scored ourselves a few times, but not to be.

There were reports before the game that Robertson wasn't 100% and I think it showed. He's dangled a tired leg for the first one, even though it was a dive and then on the second goal he just shuts down and watches the ball. Not great by Virgil but Robertson could have mopped it up.

Winning the 3 home games and picking up a point in one of the away games should still be enough.

It's bullshit, as it was with the United one the other week. You have your best penalty taker, he takes it. Some cunt with an ego doesn't get it just because he "fancies" it.
