So it seems we had a few watching in the last season (Ruby and Manon ) so here's an actual thread.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-49396844

Contestants have been announced.

13 instead of 12 this year and it's a slightly younger than normal group as more than half are in their 20's with the oldest being 56.

This show needs some fucking edge.

They've paid one of them to call Mary a cunt.

It absolute doesn't need some edge, it needs left alone to be the lovely fluffy twee little thing that it is.

Having said that I'd have lopped that old bitch's head off if I was Ian.

Which one?

The one who took it out the freezer.

The SEETHE at the time was real.

It was awful last year in comparison to the previous year (which had been my first year watching it).

You had heart in Liam and Julia and real jaw dropping talent with Steven, I didn't think last years quite matched up and I dropped off quite early.

Everyone on this years looks both incredibly young and insanely attractive (for British TV) in a clear play for that Netflix audience.

I reckon I'd have a decent run on bakeoff, if I put a bit of time into building up a half-decent knowledge base of the bits I don't have much experience with like bread.

She's a bit scary. You could picture her sabotaging things culminating with her dousing a full tent in petrol. "But Mummy says I should always win".

The whole thing is a victim of its own success. Whereas before it was endearing and a bit twee, it's now packed with wall to wall arseholes. That chicken though, that was really something.

mugbull

The contestants are definitely the best this season in terms of personalities. Used to be nearly 100% bores. But then you get people like Jamie who can't do anything, so who knows

Sir Andy Mahowry
24-09-2019, 11:39 PM
How did Priya stay?

Also, Michael's constant tears are really pissing me off and Alice is seriously grating.

-james-
25-09-2019, 12:27 AM
Priya is one of the only likeable ones in it, I presume that's how she's still in it. The standard of baking seems fairly shit this season, and them being comically shit at the technical challenge every week is boring. Also, dairy week? 20s week? Fuck off.

Sir Andy Mahowry
25-09-2019, 12:36 AM
I think David's my favourite and I didn't mind Helena only because of her interactions with her Goth Brethren Noel. Steph is ok too but a bit bland.

I'm also warming to Rosie I think. Saying "rabbits, they just want to die" was great.

Slightly perturbed to read Alice and Henry are a couple now. He’s barely older than some of her students.

thommo

I read that too, but I believe it has been quite quickly debunked by Alice herself.

I'm still getting over the fact that Phil the trucker was booted a week ago, when there were clearly worse bakers than him that week.

mugbull
27-09-2019, 11:30 AM
I know, you could tell by his reaction he wasn’t expecting it either. I guess they just hated his showstopper so much, when really it was just boring and nothing less

Half her age + 7 would be 19. It's fair.

David

Steph properly bottled that by turning into Waterworks Michael.

She did. She should've won it really. Confidence tumbled (all because she used cold water!) and neat and tidy David had it in the bag then. He really rose to the occasion.

I'll leave you to decide if the pun was intentional or not.

I don't like how they often make them super pressurised for time, like they seemed to be for the technical this week. I want to see what they're really capable of, not what they can cobble cobble together in a rush. Like those souffles really weren't very difficult and I'm sure they could all have done then excellently given the time. I'd rather they gave them something super challenging and 4 hours to do it; that's what tells you who's really the best IMO. I get that it's because it makes for dramatic TV, but still.

I'm going to do a year locuming after F2, I'll probably chuck an application in that year.
