I'm still 50/50 on getting this. At least on launch anyway. I threw myself into '17 and then pretty much took '18 off and was better for it. I went pretty hard on '19 and ended up with the best team I've ever had, but I'm not sure I can drop it and do it all again from scratch in a month.

Figured I'd try to help out a bit with a big ol' list of answers to some common closed beta questions. So, here goes...

Why can't I access the beta yet?

As stated in the email you got, the beta starts at 6PM BST on Friday (which is UK time.)

Will my FUT team from the beta carry over?

No. It will not.

Will my coins carry over from the beta?

No.

OMG I PACKED NINE ICONS IN THE BETA! Does that mean the pack weight is raised in the full game?

No. The pack weight is raised in the beta so people can try more players.

Do I get unlimited FUT packs in the beta?

No. You are given coins on a daily basis, which you can choose to use on packs.

Will I have access to all modes?

No. You may get access to all modes toward the end of the beta, but the email you got will tell you which modes you have access to. There are different combinations. Most (if not all) will get access to Kick Off mode, then one other mode (Volta, FUT, Pro Clubs, etc.)

Why can't I access EA's beta feedback forum?

You are granted access the first time you log in to the game itself.

What happens if I post screenshots and videos, or stream the game on Twitch/Mixer/YouTube/Facebook/Anywhere?

EA can opt to ban you from ALL EA games. Not just FIFA. Your username appears randomly on the screen in different positions during the beta, so they can identify you.

WOW Why is my favourite player rated 82 when I think he should be rated 85 and all logic points to him being upgraded from the 82 he was in FIFA 19?

Ratings in the beta are NOT final, no matter what anybody tells you.

How do I get into the beta?

You probably won't, now, but there's a chance more invites will be sent later. You need to enable promotional emails on your EA account to be CONSIDERED for the beta. You are not guaranteed a code.

How big is the download? Can I pre-load it so I'm ready to go at 6PM UK on Friday?

I can tell you that on PS4, the beta is a shade over 39GB. Yes, you can pre-load it.

Is the beta the current build of the game?

Probably not. It will likely be a build from a few weeks ago, so some fixes and changes that have already been made as EA works on the game to bring it to launch are NOT in the beta version.

In FUT, can you buy/sell players on the transfer market or just open packs?

In the FIFA 19 beta, the market was active for buying and selling. I assume it's the same in the FIFA 20 beta. So, yes.

I can't get into the FUT section without being insta-booted. However my thoughts from kick off:


- Passing seems much improved. Players seem to be able to better decide if the ball should go inside, or outside the full back for example. Your more gifted players are more able to get the weight of the pass spot on.

- Player animations seem more fluid. For example, if a pass is slightly behind your player they can bring it under control without having to stop dead or face the other way. It may go slightly ahead of them, but it makes much more sense to continue the momentum, than stop dead in the tracks.

- Finishing seems more sensible. You're not banging in 35 yard volleys with your back to goal with Blanc on this one. Whereas get Salah into the box and you can tuck away reliably. You don't have to use the same finish each time either.

- General play is rewarded. The idea of the game seems to be to using passing or the odd skill move to break open a defence and get into the box. La Croqueta spam is gone. You might get 2 off but every time after the ball is getting further out of control. Though this did score me a goal. A miscontrol after a 2nd Croqueta actually went into space behind the defender and Salah got it first to bury it.
I feel like a 4-3-3 with 1 DM may be popular this year.

- Defending seems to give you a choice. No longer can you just put the controller down and let the AI do it. You either sit and hold your shape, which if you do it well, will work. Or you can press the ball. The key point here is by doing the latter, or being bad at the former, you pull players out of position. Add that to everything I've mentioned above and your opponent can tear you up.

- Speed also seems to have been fixed. I sent Salah in behind Aurier from the halfway line. Even with Salah having the ball from about 40 yards out, Aurier could not catch him.

It will still be effective to some. I mean teams wouldn't do it so much in real life if it didn't. But you're now requiring the opponent to keep in their shape and then play out when they get the ball back.

Some thoughts:

The way the squad battles rewards are displayed is so dumb.
The milestone objectives are rubbish, no one is going to score 100 bicycle kicks without just whacking it on easy thus defeating the point. The rest of the objectives look very good and open up some sweet possibilities.
The pack opening animation is like something out of Brass Eye. Which might not be a bad thing.
Went into Squad Battles and played the hardest team from the four on Professional difficulty. Game feels a bit ponderous and controlling the ball odd, but that might be due to the sheer number of bronze shit in my team.
No idea what I'm doing with pens.

The menu stuff (while slow to navigate) is great and the possibilities could conjure up some cracking stuff. The gameplay however on first impressions is a bit shit. It's slow, forward runs are worse than ever and the ball bouncing back to your opponent when you tackle them is still widerife. I know it's only a beta and as I haven't experienced one before I don't know how significantly these things normally change, but it looks like they've taken FIFA19, slapped it about a bit, then served it up.

I’ve gone 1-3 in Rivals, and it’s fucking horrible. Congested middle of the park, and constantly being robbed of the ball miliseconds after I make the tackle. The former seems no worse a scenario than in ‘19, but obviously I’d need to learn how to break it again, the latter seems worse, which is saying something. It genuinely feels like there’s little point winning the ball at times as they rob it back in a better position- it’s no surprise these cunts don’t bother tackling and simple cut passing lanes when they’re defending.

Still not sold on keeping up with Fifa this year, I think it might be my year out.

Tells me how many goals scored vs opponents, the breakdown of those goals (short range, long range, free kicks, penalties), shot conversion, goal times, where I scored the goal (I favour both the bottom corners based on 1 match), the attacking lanes you use, ground passing success rate, crossing, dribbling, standing tackles, sliding tackles, interceptions, blocked shots and discipline.

Why they couldn't do that on regular UT and player stats I have no idea.

ICON Swaps in FUT 20
Alongside being able to purchase ICONs on the Transfer Market or finding them in Packs, in FUT 20 we are introducing ICON Swaps, a new way to allow players to unlock select ICONs in exchange for Player Tokens which can be earned by completing objectives you exchange. Simply put:

Complete Player Token Objectives.
Receive Player Tokens.
Redeem for ICON Rewards available in a Swaps release.



There will be 3 ICON Swaps released throughout the year.
Each ICON Swaps release will contain at least 20 individual ICONs (Untradeable).
Player Tokens can also be redeemed for select Guaranteed ICON Packs during each Swaps release.
Each ICON Swaps release will contain a range of ICON versions.
If an ICON has already been released in an ICON Swaps Release, it will not have any other versions released in a Future ICON Swaps Release.
ICON Swaps objectives will reflect the rewards on offer.

Each ICON Swaps release will have a unique set of Player Tokens tied to it.
Each Individual ICON in an ICON Swaps will require a certain number of Player Tokens in order to redeem.
Each Player Token can only be redeemed in that specific ICON Swaps release and does not roll over to the next ICON Swaps release.
The Player Tokens will be released over the duration of each ICON Swaps release.
Similar to FUT Swap Deals, you will need to choose which ICONs you want to unlock based on how many Player Tokens you have earned.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass but if folks could detail their moves and ideas for FUT this year I'd be appreciative cause I'm trying to go without buying packs (though that'll probably last a day if even.)

I always see you all stocking up on certain players/teams and I'm just really beyond my depth.

Guys have like 30 Allan cards and turn them into millions by November whereas I'm pretty sure I sunk over $500 if not more on packs last year.

Bought Rodri, Ndombele and Lingard and switched to a narrow diamond before going into Rivals.

Lost the first 3-2 against a much better player and then lost 4-2 against a player I felt like I could beat.

Aguero's loan with Pukki is brilliant but my defence (sans loan Van Dijk got abused). Both guys scored a near post header with a CB (my players refused to jump) in what feels like an exploit and I had a couple of unlucky bounce goals go against me.

The team I was up against was shit, but an 8-0 win on Legendary with Leao scoring 4 and Paulinho getting a hat-trick nets me 2,588 points and into Elite 2. :drool:

Made Elite 1 and reasonably confident I'll stay there as I have another couple of hours left on the trial.

That said, once you do make Elite 1 there's seemingly no way to see either how many points you have or how many points you are ahead of Elite 2, so you can't even use Futbin as a guide as to what you need to do to stay there.

Some of the AI in the game is baffling. I get tackling is harder, and I am good with that but my defenders just running away and not following men is old already. As is the game deciding the player I am passing to isnt the one I pointed the stick at. Dont get me started on switching, I think it somehow got worse.

It's awful isn't it? That screen that comes up (with dugger font size thumbnails) when you go to add a player is the most unnecessary thing I've seen since I started playing FIFA again and it's going to make doing upgrade SBC's quickly impossible.

I played a few games to sneak into Gold 2 and I really enjoyed those games.

The hard teams are a struggle even on professional.

Ended up buying IF Aurier (probably the third best RB behind the Man City duo and he's an investment as these week 1 TOTWs always shoot up in price), Laporte and Mendy today and they're all seriously good. I was a little uneasy about buying Laporte due to his speed but his defensive stats are so good that they more than make up for it. He's also an amazing passer which really helps to start counters. Mendy and Aurier are very good defensively but not great at attacking.

Fred is decent but nowhere near as good as on 19 but Ndombele seems to be everywhere.

Get a lot more out of my team when I bring on the IF Moreno for Fred (he's fantastic at CM coming on late) and Richarlison for Tammy Abraham who is absolutely shit.
