Got an email from Smyths saying they're putting some up at 10:30pm, although it came this morning but mentioned December 3rd so whether it's just a typo or a late email and they sold out last night I don't know

I think I'm just going to chance brick and mortar now. Online just gets swamped by robots and queuing. Although you're queueing to get into pigging retail as well. CeX is the nuclear option but I'm waiting for the price to drop. A PS4 would take £120 off it but that's still £700 left.

Was it not 10:30 yesterday morning (https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/k68upb/psa_smyths_uk_has_stock_right_now/)?

That link recommends using https://www.hotstock.io/uk btw

This was it, but it was sent this morning and was titled 'pre order 3rd December' so I wouldn't trust any of it

Off topic slightly but is there a way to have the controller go off when watching something like the DS4 did? Seems to run through charge twice as quick without it.

If you press the PS button I'm sure there are power options for the controller in the little menu that pops up at the bottom, I know you can turn it off that way at least if not set a sleep timer

I'm the same, had it since November and the only PS5 games I've got still are the free upgrade versions of PS4 games I already had. Probably should have scalped it for big profit and bought one later

Shindig
20-07-2021, 05:31 PM
The price premium on games knacks me up. I only took Demon Souls to have something new and, even then, it's old enough for the preowned copies to wind up at £50. I could just about stomach that. Returnal is probably the only other PS5 title I'll be keen on. I'm not playing PS4 stuff on it whilst I've still got that kicking around. Once Bugsnax is done, that's all I'll really have. Not including reviews which will mostly be PS4/PS5 versions of tat. And Chivalry 2 which runs really, really nice.

Lofty
22-07-2021, 06:41 AM
I understand the sentiment but I still think the vastly improved loading times, graphical performance and haptic feedback stuff justify the purchase. Also I am a physical media slag with a load of 4K discs only the PS5 can play so that helps.

Shindig
22-07-2021, 07:59 AM
Yeah, I definitely look at Demon's Souls and see a game they couldn't manage on the old system. Graphically, there's so much going on. But then you get F1 2021 which looks barely negligible from the PS4 version. You can push it to 120FPS and that's it.

Being able to double the frame rate of a game is quite a big thing tbf.

Shindig
22-07-2021, 06:27 PM
Yeah but that's something that doesn't appeal to me unless I've got the display to do see it. Like, I can't see HDR on this set but I can easily be impressed by volumetric lighting, particle effects and some really nice god rays.

Yeah if you've not had a PlayStation in a while, some of the stuff in that Ps+ collection will be great for you. Also still plenty of time to get Horizon or God of War done before their sequels come in 2022/3.

Sir Andy Mahowry
18-08-2021, 06:16 PM
I think the biggest is still Miles Morales. It's a cracking game but it's far too short as it's basically a large DLC for Spiderman.

Yevrah
18-08-2021, 06:28 PM

Demon Souls, Metal Gear Solid 4.

I did add this back button kit to my controller recently:

Looks like it contains an absolute wealth of PS3 games, which is great as I don't think they're backwards compatible.

Danny

The PS Plus Collection is the one you want to be looking at for some of the best games from PS.

I'm tempted by PS Now. It was never worth bothering previously due to my passable internet speed but when we moved I've now got 30 times the grunt so downloading full games doesn't take a week. I assume you can do some kind of trial, might give it a look later.

Gray Fox
19-08-2021, 05:43 PM
Also to be clear Yevrah PS Now and PS+ are two different things. You'll still need to have the latter to play online features of games, though there are also a good catalogue of games that go with that too.

OOoh, that's on PS Now, which I'm working through at the moment weighing up whether it's worth continuing the subscription or just buying the games like that that I want. I have a lot of the multi-platform stuff on Xbox so already, so downloaded about 20 games and a working through them. So far I've played:

Super Ultra Street Fighter XVIII (Or whatever it's called) - fun for 5 minutes then deleted
Olympics 2020 - Possibly the worst game ever, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun

Things I've got from it that might actually be good:

Beyond: Two Souls
Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
God of War III Remastered
Heavy Rain
Horizon Zero Dawn
Soma
Vampyr
A load of Indy stuff

The subscription is £8 a month after the month for a pound runs out, so thinking of doing a quick look through each of those and then cancelling and just buying the ones I actually like.

I havent but I am planning on it soon. Installation seems simple and from the videos I saw it doesnt impact performance at all.

Gray Fox

I did mine on the PS4 and it was easy enough. Just undo some screws, switch it out and off you go.

Andrew
03-04-2022, 06:28 PM
It's pretty easy to do Yevrah take the sides off unscrew the covering pull out the old hard drive and slide the new one in

Sir Andy Mahowry

I'll probably be doing it soon but right now I'm not too pushed for space.

wullie

I put a 1Tb drive in the PS4 and it took seconds, I assume it'll be the same for this. I've got an external drive connected for the PS4 games as it is already so I'm a good way off capacity for now.

So no then.

Danny
12-09-2024, 12:35 PM
You mean you dont want to play the same games again but remastered and on slightly better hardware?

I bought the 4 Pro straight away and then the 5 straight away but I am going wait on this. Doesn't seem worth it day 1.

Gray Fox
16-09-2024, 08:34 AM
So it seems the point of this is to aim for 4k60fps. You can currently get 4k or 60fps on the standard, but not both. So you must choose in settings if you want graphics or performance.

It's still a better deal for most than the PC route for now. If it does what it says it will do, that is. Your PC equivalent here is likely to be a little more into the ~£1k range and that's if you build it yourself.

We'll see how well this thing sells, but I don't think it will.

Shindig
16-09-2024, 05:30 PM
Yeah, even if you want to go down a pre-build route, £700 gets you something with an RTX 3050. Probably not comparable to the PS5's GPU but the raytracing support on the PC side is a little more widespread.
