I jumped on that early but it does get repetitive. I'd rather watch a Blacklist type of show.

Fun fact: I watched 7 episodes before realising that Bosch isn't James Nesbitt.

I like Bosch too. I agree with Kiko, it's just a good, old fashioned procedural. Sometimes that just hits the spot. I've always like Titus Welliver too. He's one of those blokes who is perennially the supporting guy in things, and he's always good at it. So it was nice to see him get his own thing. I am a couple of seasons behind though I think.

Really good episode. Other than the filler-y ice spider episode it's been a much better paced season and that was a really great finale. I mean, the kid's ending up back with Din, Luke'll task him with getting him somewhere else at some point. He's not going from a child who can't speak to being his own capable trained-up Jedi by the time the sequel trilogy comes around.

One thing I'm glad they've done this season is basically made it so that if a Jedi turns up it means shit's getting real. When I saw they'd cast Ahsoka I was worried she'd be about all the time but yeah, both times a Jedi has turned up they've smashed shit up.

Season 8. And then it’s uphill from there.

Skinner is indeed an absolute lad. I proper love it. It does become a bit of a slog in parts though.

I only started rewatching it cos the new series was coming out and channel 5 was showing like ‘the 24 xfiles episodes you must watch’ so I watched the first two and then it suggested skipping a load, but I was enjoying it so just carried on through them all.

Episode 7 of season 9 is one of the best standalone episodes of any tv show ever, whether you’ve watched any others or even know who any of the characters are. I’ve rewatched it twice since I finished the whole lot.

This was indeed a really good episode. One of the best stand-alone ones they've done. It was a bit like a movie. It just looked really good.

It's weird, the general consensus seems to be that it got rubbish once Mulder and Scully stopped being the central characters but I think it has actually freshened things up quite a lot.

There have been some great standalone episodes in season eight and nine. It also benefits from looking that bit more modern at this point. The actors are clearly more bothered about it too, whereas Duchovny in particular was really phoning it in towards the end of the "Mulder and Scully" era. Doggett is brilliant, and I really like Reyes as well. I don't see the issue. I'm half way through season nine and Scully is still sort of hanging around in a supervisory role but it works. They talk about Mulder a lot but he's never in it.

The only downside is the whole mythology arc (aliens, government conspiracy etc) has gone to shit by this point. I couldn't even give you confident synopsis of what it was all about. They obviously had no idea what to do with that at all. :D

Much like the previous 2 series I thought it was a little slow to start but when it got going it was brilliant. Really pumped for the next series which is set up beautifully after that finale.

I've started watching something called "For All Mankind" recently. It's on Apple TV, which seems to have been totally overlooked in the never ending streaming wars and which I only have as I got a year free on the back of a purchase, otherwise I would never have thought to both with it.

It's actually quite good though. It's an alternate timeline thing in the vein of Man in the High Castle, but the premise is that the Soviets get to the Moon first, how the Americans react and the subsequent ongoing game of one-upmanship that means the Space Race never really ends. It's a bit daft in places but the subject in interesting enough, and it's sufficiently well made, that I'm pretty hooked on it at the moment.

Season 2 comes out in February.

I thought it was a bit ridiculous to start with, but then I started rooting for the characters and genuinely enjoyed it more when they started diverging from historic events. Those final few episodes with all the action are class.

Alex
11-01-2021, 10:15 AM
Aye, it's definitely getting progressing better as it goes along. I've got a couple of episodes left.

The last one I watched was where Ed's son dies while he's on the moon and they try to keep it from him. :(

I thought the second season was already out for some reason, until I noticed a little advert in the app yesterday saying February, si I'm a bit gutted about the wait. But at least it's only a month.

WandaVision is off to a great start if you haven't already got on it.

Ian
15-01-2021, 07:14 PM
I've started two things this week.

Schitt's Creek I agree with whoever it was who said in here recently that all the characters when you start are total arseholes, and they were right, and yet I found it compelling enough to stick with it. I'm about 8 episodes in, I think, and I'm enjoying it so far. 20 minutes a pop and pretty watchable stuff and I get a few good laughs per episode.

I've also started Umbrella Academy which I am also enjoying. Curious to see how the various threads are gonna come together. Odd that Robert Sheehan is basically playing his Misfits character with a twist, though.

Will also be giving WandaVision a bash. With Mandalorian finished it's nice to have a weekly show to look forward to again.

I still like the first two of those, but then I quite like a comic film so depending how you get on with those I may not be the best judge for you.

I’ve seen the other tv (film?) adaption and can’t remember it in great detail, but I remember it being boring as soon as they got to the new settlement. The new one has tried to avoid that by switching back and forth between before and after, but the fact that the characters are all ridiculous means it’s still absolute shite. It’s just dreadful. Are fatuous Holocaust/Nazism comparisons anti-Semitic (as the BBC link says)? That's most of the online leftist toolkit down the drain if so.

No, it seems if you're using the holocaust as a basis of comparison from the perspective of the left that's absolutely fine, but from the right? Nope. Not on our watch.

I'd personally rather no one did it unless it was actually warranted, which I'd estimate it never is, but people would be upset if they couldn't accuse Farage of being a Nazi so we are where we are.

They've just started filming season 3. The film is a classic, but at this stage I'm happy to say the show is the better product now.

Finished the second series today and it was even better than the first.

I can find Matt Berry a little OTT at times but he's absolutely perfect in the role.

The episode where he fleas and becomes Jackie Daytona is incredible.

He doesn't flea. He flees. Or rather... BAT!

Anyone see out all of Designated Survivor? I watched two episodes and while it was good it seemed like it was going to be standard enough formulaic fare, anything worth sticking with?

Nope. It’s terrible. The plot just lurches from one disaster to another. And without wanting to spoil it, after a while the premise of the show fades away and then it’s just a really bad The West Wing.

Been watching the US Office. Never watched it all, but it's obviously great. It's really starting to pick up now it's on its own two feet.
I just rewatched the whole thing and it is really great. I’ve never seen the UK version though.

If you don’t really know what you’re on about, don’t spout off.

Fair enough, educate yourself, but ridiculous statements like what she said, especially when you’re a dummy, are just asking for trouble.

She has been giving it the big one online for a while now, I think she made the mistake of thinking her attractiveness would protect her. Unfortunately her inability to act didn't help. Hopefully she is blackballed from Hollywood and starts an OnlyFans

That’s sort of what I was fearing from it.

You need to sort this out. It's fantastic

I quite liked the disaster stuff. But you're right about it becoming a really bad West Wing.

Wandavision is incredible.

I saw a lot of negative reviews based on the first three episodes (I personally loved them because they were intriguing and there was a lot of mystery behind them) but episodes four, five and six have been amazing.

MCU TV series haven't been all that great (other than Cloak & Dagger and the Netflix ones bar Iron First & Defenders) but this is some quality stuff and if they finish off the series with another 3 big episodes it will easily be the best.

I agree I know nothing about the MCU but the missus suggested I give it a go and I binged 6 episodes.

Hooked!

tbf the trailer made it look intriguing and I didn't even realise it was Marvel garb at first.

I’m also loving Wandervision. I wasn’t huge on the first episodes, the bits right at the end where enough to keep me viewing though, and they weren’t long episodes. It’s really gotten good since though.

I thought two episodes was a long time to stick so hard to that set-up for Wandavision and I didn't really know how I felt about those, and you shouldn't have to say "give it x episodes" about stuff but it is very different from about mid-way through episode 3 and I'm enjoying it now.

At least it's not "skip season 1" like Parks & Rec.

I've picked up Parks & Rec in the last month. Tom eating that pepper is the funniest bit of TV I've seen in a long time.

I really loved the first 2 episodes of WandaVision. It wasn’t as interesting as it is now but it was still incredibly watchable and just fun. It’s better now though. Fantastic series.

I'm gonna hold off on WandaVision until just before the last episode and binge all of them a day ahead of it.
