Which lot are worse?

The French by some distance.

The Americans try really hard, with the stupid firearm addiction, joke food, awful take on the English language and lack of basic human decency that pervades their society, but when it comes down to it, no one is worse than the French. No one.

I don't get the hate for the French.

98% of the people who make French jokes have never actually interacted with one but the stereotypes are pretty much correct.

I work with the fuckers on a daily basis. As a peuple they are rude, stupid and don't listen to a word anyone says. Their hegemonic culture is stuck in 1905 and any attempts at counterculture are run over by a giant CRS van amid burning vehicles. Their food is dreadful and getting worse. In the midst of this they have even less self-awareness than the British and even less tact than the Americans. The way they deal with their post-imperial immigrant population, to this day, is an openly racist disgrace.

People accuse us of being stuck in the Blitz/WW2 foundation myths, but I'd rather that than have the nagging, unspoken guilt that the French have that a vast swathe of their ruling classes were enthusiastic collaborators. That useless ponce Macron is all they deserve.

I think the best summation of how shit the French are is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acad%C3%A9mie_fran%C3%A7aise. Life for a successful Frenchman is one long ponce.

Nowadays we are just largely not exposed to the shite that goes on over there because the British media obsessively focuses on the USA and occasionally other English-speaking countries.

USA is so much worse. Lol @ the centuries of irrelevant pitter-patter between the English and the French rearing its head here though

Also hilarious that he goes from shitting on the Americans’ “awful take on the English language” in one post to providing the Academie Francaise as an example of why France sucks in the next post

The Academie Francaise can get fucked but I'm not sure a country run by Etonians and Oxbridge boarding school children can talk about ponces running the show.

We don't have a wizard's council meet to try and stop you, though, do we.

I remember Floyd making this thread on the Old Board leading to some conclusion he had had in mind that would have no doubt predicted the referendum. I would choose America out of the two, but ideally neither.

Americans are by and large good people that mean well but are largely ignorant of anything outside of themselves so you occasionally get caught in crossfire. The French are arseholes who are very aware of everything around them and therefore will treat you well if it works to their favour and will direct you into the crossfire saying, 'there's a wonderful bistro over there' if not.

That's as a white person. If I was Algerian they'd both push me into the crossfire but the American would call a police officer to do it for them because they're terrified of personal conflict.

As someone who lives in the US but currently is with four French persons in the living room as this post is typed, I will give them a turgid 0-0 draw.

I’ll say that America as a country is shitter than France, but Americans as people are far better.

I like them both. The French are a lot nicer once you let them know you're not English.

Don't do yourself down. They've had a thousand years to get it right, you've only had 250.

America as a country is barely civilized, the people in general are mostly ok. That alone puts them above the French.

Pepe

The people are better in that they are nice and loud and shout at you "welcome to McDonalds!" earnestly, but beyond that there is not any depth. The French are just sulky, monotone cunts.

Nearly all Americans are fucking idiots. I don't know any French people and have never been to France. Saying "croissant" in a slightly French accent is fun, though.

I actually think I've met more decent French people than Americans. I can deal with moodiness in a language I can't under, but overenthusiasm does my head in.

I quite liked America by the time I left but it's never somewhere I could live long-term. Everything is so in your face and exaggerated. I wouldn't go as far as calling people fake, but I did feel that there is an underlying insincerity with American people.

If you can get past the god and all the other madness then 'the Americans' are probably the best people in the world.

The French are decent too though, on an individual basis (like nearly all people).

It's easy to hate nationalities on a high level (a level at which the French are beyond contempt, say,) but when you get down to it the people themselves are usually alright. Well, in my experience anyway.

I think my personal top three are thus:

1. Spaniards
2. Australians
3. Pakistanis

Don't quote me on the last one but they definitely win the subcontinental battle. Indians are rude tossers, and Sri Lankans have a real chip on their shoulder, a bit like the Welsh.

Some of the nicest people I've ever met are from Louisiana but I can't shake the idea of the loud, crass American that I can't stand.

The obvious test for this are the crowds at Golf events. Bloody yobbos across the pond.

The American thing is awkward, because it's only a certain type of American that drags them all down. Were it not for the yee-haw, USA USA USA, Bible thumping ones then France would be an easy winner. If only they could drop a bomb that would take out all of the non-coastal states.

How many of those people have you actually met? They largely don’t exist and those that do have never left their state. It’s like judging the UK on Jacob Rees Mogg.

Pepe

They most definitely exist. Remove the bible thumping part and something like 80% of the population will fit the description.
