Got a £30 bonus today for organising secret Santa in the office. Can't put a price on that.

This year I had a new kid, got a new car, secured a new job for the New Year and generally had a pretty good time. I'm pretty happy.

Other than working in a shit hospital in a broken NHS, everything else is pretty good.

Finally getting paid after all those years at uni, finally moving in with the girl, not depressed, some great people in the group of F1s I joined with. Had a lot of good feedback at work which is nice.

Oh I could do without the migraines too but could be worse.

I'm still having a good time. I reckon I've done more this year than at any other point in life and after the New Year I could very well be my own employer which is something I never dreamed of although the summer months look more likely.

I've even applied for the next year's Apprentice. 8-)

Weren't you opening up your own pub not that long ago?

Smjffy

You mean the one we relaunched in Derby? It was a few years ago tbh and it was a pub/B&B/restaurant.

I can see myself opening my own one day as I have a wealth of experience in the industry and now with the cheffing and understanding the costs etc. It's something I've discussed before but I still feel I lack the experience over a prolonged period of time.

I don't know where life will take me but I reckon the experience gained will stand me well in the long term.

Was it that long ago? Time flies.

What happened with it?

I reckon maybe four years ago but dates has never been a strong point of mine. From what I gather the owner eventually had to close it again before it got bought by someone with money to make a difference. It looks pretty good now and they're able to charge a lot more.

I honestly believe if I arrived earlier I could have turned it around but the owner, some Scientology moron seemed to stick most the money into his houses as he wanted to rent rooms there separately.

It sounds silly but it's one of my best achievements in my working life. To reopen a pub on about £800 budget to making nearly £20K during my short time there. Some pretty out the box thinking too by utilising the school nearby which was a fair few grand a year to go to.

Repton was quite an affluent area tbf so the money was there. I was quite proud tbh but yeah, handicapped by an idiot and too many restrictions. Inexperience, lack of transport, debts to most suppliers etc.

You advertised your pub at a school?

Smjffy

Not quite. It was a £10K+ a year boarding school so I offered reduce rates for the B&B rooms and food packages etc for anyone visiting and as I was onside with the teachers, one of whom was born in my neck of the woods they helped me out too.

Only thing we ever did with the kids was allow the jazz band to play one night but it was a private affair. End of term perhaps. Not sure now. Hired a kid from university to do our fliers, that was the sort of outside the box thing. I think it was Benny(?) on here who helped with creating menu and getting that layout done.

I can't complain, nearly a year in my new job on way more money than previously.

That said, I've got 6 people round my house on Christmas Day, so there'll probably be news of 5 murders and a man on the run.

Everything is shit but that's what life is so it's like whatever ya know. I have a job that rewards me with currency that i can spend to have a roof over my head so it's more than most.

Big pay rise recently, work's better in general due to what's unofficially a new job, new car last week, spoilt for my 30th this month and I'm off until the 7th after this Thursday.

Doing all right to be fair.
