The Macho Man's drop-off is pretty incredible. I know he was shit towards the end at Chelsea, but he was sound last year. What happened over the summer? I can't remember anything like it since Rio Ferdinand took three months realising his legs had gone, but he could change his game accordingly. In midfield you're a bit fucked.

Felt like the first dropped points of the season yesterday. Arsenal played well, but were there to be beaten with better finishing/a bit of luck. I can sort of see why the lino stuffed up Mané's goal, but it's a big and fairly unforgivable error. Sticks in the throat a bit after all the phases of play bullshit we were subjected to last season as well.
Personally I think it should probably be offside (as he clearly makes a move towards the ball from his offside position), but with the modern interpretation I don't think he was 'interfering'. It's probably my fault as I drafted him back into my fantasy team. Goal probably stands if I hadn't done that. Milner and Neves mired on the bench as well. :face:

Christensen and David Luiz after the madcap defender role is a bigger worry for me. If we lose the former for the sake of eking another year of tomfoolery out of the latter, we're doing it wrong.
As for the midfield spot, Kovacic shits on the other two. Ruben is a highlights reel player, albeit a useful battering ram. Barkley could be something, but I dunno.

Utterly awful performance from Fulham yesterday. With Liverpool away coming up next week before the international break, you have to wonder whether that is it for Slavisa. There's no shape or organisation defensively, but that said, the players have not shown any fight and clearly have no confidence.
If Liverpool are on it and Fulham's defence is true to form then that could get a bit messy.

St. Helens vs Wigan is the original sporting derby for reasons that merely specify a degree of local proximity. Liverpool and United could no doubt qualify as the Ship Canal Derby, but 1) both of them have genuine local rivals; and 2) then all of them loser peripheral teams like Bolton and Blackburn would insist on their one-sided dislike of United counting as Lancashire derbies. Brighton vs Crystal Palace is not a derby, regardless of their worthless rivalry.

What is the point of Ayoze Perez? Has to be one of the worst players of the past 10 years in the Premier League. Useless.
He works his arse off and gets a decent amount of goals/assists (for Newcastle). He is a bit overrated, but we have far worse in our squad.

The Bundesliga is a joke league. It's a slightly better Holland. Watch it, everyone apart from the annual token defensive team (used to be Cologne, don't know who it is now) plays with mental high lines and no one does any defending.
If you have anyone with a bit of pace they will destroy it with all the space that opens up. That said, the Premier League is rapidly going in the same direction, so whatever.

What a shame - first 40 minutes we looked fairly well drilled and created a couple of good breakaway chances. Then the shitshow that is the Salah goal happens, and we just drift into nothingness for the rest of the game.

The one with Mina on Morata was a blatant pen, no idea how the ref didn't give that. Rest of the second half was a long-play tape of Morata being a spacker.

At the risk of sounding bitter can someone explain to me why so much is being made about this "44 pass team goal!" that City scored at the weekend?
They mostly just passed it about among themselves, many times going all the way back to the centerbacks.
Admittedly, the final few passes were very nice and they deffo deserved the goal and the result.
I'm just flat out not understanding what was so great about the 40 passes before it? It's not as if 95% of these passes are what forced the defense to fail to mark Gundogan in the box?

Sterling for England is marginally improved from when he used to refuse to do anything at all when he had the ball in and around the area but making the wrong decision every time isn't much if an improvement on not making one at all.
