I've just bought some clothes:

Click 'em.

Top one is cos I wanted a plain grey sweatshirt or longsleeved tshirt because I wanna look like a Michael Schofield Prison Break Season One badass (http://www.revolveclothing.com/reigning-champ-core-crewneck-in-heather-grey/dp/REIG-MO17/?d=Mens).
Next one was only £7 and I don't have a top that colour.
The gloves were £2.50 reduced from £18 and I have no gloves.
The print tshirt I dunno. It says white but looks more grey, which I hope is the case, and it only cost £6.50.
And the last cos I'm still on the hunt for a well fitting white tee that you can't see my big brown beastie burger nips through. At £4 it's more hope than expectation.

But yeah, clothes thread.

By the way I recommend you all buy your stuff through Quidco (http://www.quidco.com/user/702783/2095631/) if you don't already. I've had nearly £300 of free money from them. :sst:

Need to get some longsleeves T's, as I'll have a fresh tattoo this time next week and then off on sunny holiday a fortnight afterwards, so it's either that or wear a big tubigrip type affair.

It's funny how tastes vary.

I couldn't picture a moment where I would think "yeah, this looks good" to anyone wearing any of those.

Unless the bottom one was bought for a "shit shirts" night.

Got a pair of these from Muji in Birmingham the other week. It's been a nightmare finding trousers at the moment as the thigh width is always so small.

Is that a black person problem, struggling for jeans ('normal' jeans)?

Alex Ferguson

Depends on the build. My thighs are bigger than what appears to be the average size in shops. Think Ross and the leather pants in Friends minus the powder and the lotion. And the leather.

Merse's taste in clothing always astonishes me.

My outlook on clothes has been revolutionized in recent times by the discovery of a few old flannel shirts in my closet. They're really comfortable and they look nice, too. My days of only ever wearing t-shirts may have come to an end.

That's a bizarre batch of clothing from Merse. A jacket with a skull on it, a tshirt with the grim reaper on it, one with a gravestone on it, a jacket that says 'dead', and then the most garish shirt since Alfie Moon.

Skeletons are going through a real revival in punk/streetwear/hipster stuff. Sketchy tanks designs are proper  as far I'm concerned.

The 'Dead' thing is as the Harrington and the shirt are by Drop Dead. The latter is something best seen I think, very floaty, silky - kinda asian - very 60's. It's gone down really well in company. Needs to be worn with the right gear, mind.

Toby
04-10-2015, 11:26 PM
Of all the eras I expected "flannel" shirts to be attributed to the 90s didn't even figure.

The Merse
04-10-2015, 11:30 PM
What? They were massive! Generation X was permanently clad in flannel, whether at grunge gigs or Kevin Smith screenings.

Toby
04-10-2015, 11:32 PM
Yeah, people wore them, like they have for decades, because they're a fairly standard item of clothing.

The Merse
04-10-2015, 11:34 PM
They were far more visible in the early 90's. The eighties had them as very much an item for a very particular subculture, whilst they were more of a utility thing before that. but the 90's saw them become truly fashionable.

Toby
04-10-2015, 11:39 PM
I definitely didn't mean to suggest nobody wore them but surely if it's a "throwback", the 90s kids were also doing it as a throwback to something else.

Anyway, a better angle on this is probably just to lol at Magic and the drawers full of Superdry t-shirts he probably owns.

Yes! I was trying to think of a brand like that which has huge logos across their t-shirts to throw in to my jeans and white trainers insult. That's the one. Thank you.

I actually agree with Magic more than any of you do. The ones I have look different than the modern ones somehow, and they are a lot older (so more "authentic" if you're complaining about throwbacks); when I looked for more flannel shirts online none of them appealed to me at all. It's the difference between looking like a "bohemian farmer," as my friend said, or looking like a kid who still listens to Nirvana alone in his room.

I think that a lot of modern flannel shirts make people look like that, but mine, which are older and look a bit different, don't. It's just my opinion but it seems to be backed up by other people's comments.

Too much - I started counting up this years purchases other day. It's partly as I shed so much weight this year (12kg) and my wardrobe had been a bit dated/old mannish for a couple of years. I needed to re-do the whole thing this year, so I've bought 5 jackets, around 15-20 t's, 4 sweaters, 4 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of jean shorts, swimwear, 2 pairs of shades, 4 pairs of shoes (2 of which are loafers though), two pairs of Doc's and 3 pairs of trainers. Oh and a few shirts.

I've managed to go about 2 months without a purchase before Black Friday, so I'm content with my restraint :uhoh:

Most decent high street places will be alright for quality - it is just Topman specifically that I'd say to avoid. M&S are very decent quality for their price, but obviously not much use if you don't like anything they have in stock.

If you're willing to splurge a little bit you could just try specialist high-end places like Church's or something? They would be fucking expensive, but would last forever.

I thought it was a good streetwear illustration, plus whilst I can't say I've ever seen Adventure Time, it's pretty popular with the mid twenties lasses I've in the past year, so I didn't think it was an exclusively 'kids' thing?
Theirs are -

It's new glasses day!

Those are now on my face.

Due to going to Baz's old work, I got a discount and they put new lenses in an old pair for free. Pretty neat.

So you bought a t-shirt with an image from a TV programme you've never seen printed on it?

You are the worst.

No - I got it free due to having bought the other two, which I explained in the post it was in. Anyway - it's a parody of Adventure Time and I like Pizza and the design. So I'll wear it.

Lyle&Scott have a 60% sale on.

I would be tempted because I'm a scumbag and have absolutely no taste but I got 2 polo shirts for Christmas and they are no better than my Hollister/Matalan ones and they're total shit.

Nice, Spoon. Like them a lot.

Where do people buy glasses from on here? I was looking at Specsavers and something called Ace & Tate (https://www.aceandtate.co.uk) who seem a bit 'Warby Parker'.

Sophisticated Spoon.

I have my contacts and glasses from Specsavers, pretty decent firm. Monthly payments and a new package of contacts every 6 month send to your home.

Why've they got built-in socks, like Dougal's mittens?

The Merse

Look ace to me. Like wearing a sock it seems, taking inspiration from a variety of Nike sports shoes (you can see the American football cleats influence and that of football boots).

Very much a technical shoe, should be lovely to wear.

And yet also on trend (as far as skate/street wear goes) with the mono design.

A 'technical shoe'?

I'd quite like some nice trainers now the weather will hopefully start getting a bit better. Gimme some recommendations, folks. I haven't bought trainers in years.

Like Ronaldo's (I think) boots it's for ankle support, by attaching to the shoe it stops the shoe slipping around at the back.

Imagine having to explain to a potential mate that you look like an absolute cunt but it's ok because you have technical shoes. Though I feel that would be someway down the list of things wrong with Merse's appearance.

Why the boot all tight around your ankle like that?

The Stefan janoskis are more traditional and lovely to wear -

That's the core shoe but there are a lot of variations and you can design your own on the Nike website.

Alternatively, can't praise these enough either for comfort, as worn by shaolin-

Unless you're wearing a Bruce Lee tracksuit those Feiyue things are unacceptable. They look like a slightly more vibrant version of the shitty black shoes you'd get for about two quid to wear to PE.

Pre-empt it all the way. Come off a board when introducing them to your peers for the first time (try not to actually skate too much, they might scuff).

'Fuck me, it's gnarly in these cleats man - I can feel my toes kicking those flips like I'm wearing just my whiteys, dude'

Woah now.

You've mistaken urban metal culture for skate culture right there. It's like calling a Nigerian emigre an Afro-Caribbean.

Not cool.

If you'd said 'meeting members of Gnarwolves/Violent soho'' you'd have been spot on and relatively contemporary.

What I've done is think back to the last person I remember speaking in such an obviously ridiculous way and named his favourite band of the time. That the band was shit and the year was 2000 is sort of the point.

If I heard someone of your vintage saying 'Fuck me, it's gnarly in these cleats man - I can feel my toes kicking those flips like I'm wearing just my whiteys, dude.' I'd Big Sam them out of the country.

Don't try and wriggle out of this John, infraction towards yourself for cultural insensitivity surely?

I mean, my mum was a punk and liked roller disco, so I'm like definitely intrinsically linked to the sub culture in such a way as to be able to equate it to ethnicity.

It doesn't actually matter that I've skated twice in my life and been shit at it both times.
