View Full Version : Guess The England Squad For Euro 2020 & Qatar 2022
Before the England hype disappears completely, let's have another thread. Predict the twenty-three man squad that England will take to well, everywhere (https://i.imgur.com/meCArx0.png), for Euro 2020 and Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.
For reference, here is a reminder of the England squad for Russia 2018:
1. Jordan Pickford
2. Kyle Walker
3. Danny Rose
4. Eric Dier
5. John Stones
6. Harry Maguire
7. Jesse Lingard
8. Jordan Henderson
9. Harry Kane
10. Raheem Sterling
11. Jamie Vardy
12. Kieran Trippier
13. Jack Butland
14. Danny Welbeck
15. Gary Cahill
16. Phil Jones
17. Fabian Delph
18. Ashley Young
19. Marcus Rashford
20. Dele Alli
21. Ruben Loftus-Cheek
22. Trent Alexander-Arnold
23. Nick Pope
Who'll still be there? Who'll have failed/retired/died? And who will now be playing but didn't go to Russia?
I can't imagine Vardy, Cahill or Young will still be playing for England for either of them, really, and I'd be surprised if the three goalkeepers weren't the same. Phil Foden and Ryan Sessegnon will probably be in there. I'll have a think about the rest and post my predicted twenty-three later in the thread.
Wilshere and Walcott should be at their prime by then.

There will be 2-4 we have not yet heard of. Sessegnon looks completely nailed on and in fact should probably start the next international.
Who in this thread 2016 would have come up with Maguire, Pope and Alexander-Arnold.

Tom Davies is a good shout. He has a lot of what we need in midfield.
I'm looking forward to an England team with four Harry's & two Kyle Walkers.

For reference, here's the 23 that went to France in 2016:
Hart, Forster, Heaton, Walker, Rose, Cahill, Smalling, Clyne, Stones, Bertrand, Milner, Sterling, Lallana, Henderson, Dier[b], Wilshere, Barkley, [b]Alli, Kane, Rooney, Vardy, Sturridge, Rashford
Bold being the guys that made it to 2018.

First thing he needs is a move.

Looking at that 2016 squad, Milner would have been just what England needed last night.

I've just seen how old Kieran Trippier is and that's about one world cup older than I expected.

It'll be 15 of the 23 that went to Russia, because they did so well.
the big shake-ups always come after teams bomb out
The majority of the squad doesn't need changing if I'm honest. Keep an eye on Pickford if he loses it so that Jack Butland may have to steal his number one jersey.

Angus Gunn
Kyle Walker-Peters
Ryan Sessegnon
Trevoh Chalobah
Joel Latibeaudiere
Lewis Cook
Kieran Dowell
Phil Foden
Jadon Sancho
Daniel Crowley
Callum Hudson-Odoi
Subs: Kenny, Mount, Brereton, Nmecha
A wild guess in case this place still exists in four years time.

It’s only four years away, mate. It’s not going to change that dramatically.
Some of the names being thrown around have to be made up.
Angus Gunn sounds like a character from Guardians of the galaxy.

Kyle Walker-Peters is definitely a bug in the regen seed.

Not a chance I could pick it.
By 2022 I think the only players remaining out of this lot (lack of horrific injury permitting) will be Kane, Sterling, Stones and maybe Lingard. I highly doubt they'll all be starters as well.
For reference, 4 players are in this one (not counting Chamberlain who would be a cert) from 2016 and 3 of them were backups to the backup.

With all the inmagrants in the youth teams (especially of African origin) , its going to be very difficult to pronounce the names of future England players

It’s done France well, so it’s about time we got on board.

Seen a clickbait story with an XI for 2022:
Kane
Sancho Alli Sterling
Loftus-Cheek Foden
Sessegnon Maguire Stones Alexander-Arnold
Pickford
Sessegnon at left back.
That’s like Wales playing Bale there.

People thinking more than 3 players from this WC will be in the starting XI for the next one...
I think Pickford, Stones, Alli and Kane are safe picks. Maguire and Sterling also fairly safe.

Dele Alli will be discarded soon enough, both for England and Tottenham. Hoping Pochettino sees the sense in dropping him at some point this season, the goals he scores will be more than replaced
Worst England World Cup squad prediction from 2013 and where the players are now (https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/england-world-cup-2022-predictions-28314062?int_source=amp_continue_reading&int_medium=amp&int_campaign=continue_reading_button#amp-readmore-target)
At least they didn’t pick Harry Wilson.

And none of you picked Rice.
That pick from James
That pick from James :lol:He got 3. More than The Independent.
To be fair everyone’s would probably be laughable, but unfortunately hardly anyone made a prediction.
Do it again for NORTH AMERICA 2026?

There's still time for Tom Davies yet.
Daniel Crowley is a name I'm pretty sure I've never heard before now.
He sounds like he should be turning out for Kent 2nd XI.

Phil Jones was in the England squad for the last world cup?
He had a pretty decent season with United under Mourinho. It wasn't that ridiculous at the time, he was playing well.

That pick from James
Yeah quite the self-own from past me. I presume I was trying to be edgy in naming a bunch of people nobody had heard of. Daniel Crowley lol.
