This has a free demo, for anybody curious.

Might only ever be me, Sir Andy Mahowry and Pepe (if he gets it) who post in here but whatever.

I've now started my first save of the full version. I started as a brand new team and don't have mods, I doubt having a mod to make it real teams would add much to the experience on this.

So I've created the Welby Wolves:
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/951831809491767709/9BF89C0BE52E0E3D049F8D95FD9014CAFD3C8BE9/

Never noticed my left back (third from the right, middle row) has such shit hair.

Sounds interesting enough for me to try the demo. How long do you get to play before you have to pay?

Must be a weird game if you don’t think it’d be improved by having real names.

Promotion in the first season. Some of the more experienced players it starts you with have retired and I'm struggling to create many chances without them so far when I'm against better defenders.

Sounds interesting enough for me to try the demo. How long do you get to play before you have to pay?

You get a season which should be more than enough for you to decide if you fancy it or not. And it's RRP is only £15 so it'll probably be super cheap in future sales.

Must be a weird game if you don’t think it’d be improved by having real names.

Two things for me: firstly it's just not realistic enough for it to feel like it'd make a difference and secondly I tend to play very lengthy FM/CM games so even there where the real names do make a difference I play more of it without than with.

I reckon this'd be more like XCOM on this front where you'd gain from being able to name your yoof as they come through.

Is the Transfer List basically worthless? Everyone on there seems to be shit. Like way shitter than what I already have.

So far I've won 4 out of 5, the 1 loss being a 4-3 thriller against the league leaders Barnsley. They seemed to score with every attack.

Just earned 10,000 coins by completing my objective too, but they seem pretty worthless.

Ian

You get upgrades that improve your knowledge of who's available. I've had players better than my own there in the full version but couldn't afford them. You get that sort of upgrade with the other resource though.

Coins are for your stadium, youth system, transfers and contracts.

Finished the season in 2nd but got booted out the cup in the round of 32 by Blackpool (scraped a lucky 1-1 in the first leg but lost 1-0 in the 2nd).

Quite enjoyed that, so am tempted to buy the full version next time I feel like losing an evening.

I tried the demo but struggled to get into it. I think I am more excited for New Star Soccer Manager (http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/New+Star+Soccer+Manager/news.asp?c=77591)

I've powered through a few seasons now. Took me ages to get out of the second division.

Clicked when I started using the specialisations to increase player value, sell and buy better players. Seems to be much better than the training upgrades.

I’ll probably jump on the full version of this shortly. I can’t leave West London FC in division 3 forever.

I'll buy it next week. The tactics seemed overly simplistic initially but once the players get better the options open up a bit.

Oh and there's nothing like selling your only goalkeeper for 1.4m, not replacing him and having to train a 'newgen' green to be a goalkeeper who was hopeless.

Basically my first season but Wigan. Once your shirty amateur defenders are up against something resembling a proper attacker things can get a bit hairy.

1.4m? Insane money.

I sold my Goalkeeper for 48,400 because there was one on the transfer list for 2,000 who was only marginally worse. That allowed me to buy a handful of other players, but there wasn't much worth a damn out there. It did however spare me from starting the season with 2 Youth teamers worth 56 and 31 in the lineup (I refused to play the 4 guys who were retiring in a couple of months).

First 9 games in Division 3 have been tough but a 2-0 win away at run away leaders Peterborough has given us a 3-3-3 record and left us 3 points above the drop zone and 5 behind the promotion places. The downside is I just don't seem to have many players who are actually useful. Probably my best players currently are:

Tabard- Signed for 12,000 and plays as a Sweeper currently. Defense stat of 30. Nothing amazing but currently worth 50,000 so at least I can cash in if needed, but he's my best defender so likely wont for a while.

Staneven- Started in the team and worth 126,000 (my highest). Passing stat of 50, easily the highest stat of any player in my team. Need to find a way to get him more involved in games really.

Wann- Another player I started with and currently worth 94,000. His 21 accuracy is poor but his 37 control is the highest in my team which means he can be useful for holding the ball up when needed.

Tripe- My main striker, also started in the squad and worth 90,000. Has 29 goals in 26 games for me. Accuracy of 44 being the main attribute for him.

Desperately need to find some better players, mainly defenders if I'm going to be competitive.

Sir Andy Mahowry
01-07-2018, 05:51 PM
As I said, don't bother with doing the attribute training (top right) but go for the one that increases player value.

You get more fans, more money from sponsors and player values shoot up.

Browning

I’m assuming you mean bottom left then (the ones that are about gaining fans/money).

I’ve been doing top left and then top right so far.

Yeah, do the bottom left.

The players you get now are shit and won't be worth your time. Get the bottom left tree maxed out, sell and buy better players for cheaper.

Sounds like a plan, although I'm not convinced there will ever be anyone better on the Transfer list.

I finished 5th in my 2nd season which was disappointing. My fitness was gone for the last few games and we were shitting out 0-0 draws where even one win would likely have been enough to take us up. Oh well, we go again.

Baz

Christ this is hard. Not won a single game.

Ian
01-07-2018, 09:24 PM
Well as things stand I'm probably going down in my second season. Not only can I barely win a match, I can barely even win a fucking RNG roll during these matches. I had a string in that last match where I had 15+ advantage prior to the roll and still lost. I'm seething.

Browning
01-07-2018, 09:41 PM
Yep, I was having that same issue for a while last season and I was fuming as well.

Team seems a lot stronger this season. I was on the cusp of a 0-0 draw against Carlisle (one of the big fish in the league along with Wigan (not played yet) and Plymouth (I beat them 1-0) but chucked it away when all I had to do was move 3 guys aimlessly. Instead I went for the win, went for a tackle, fouled him and conceded the free kick. Other than that and a dull 0-0 on the opening day we've been perfect though, recording my biggest win against York (5-0) in the process.

Played 8, Won 6, Drawn 1, Lost 1, Scored 13, Conceded 1

A defender who was injured for the run in last season is bossing it this year, and a midfielder i signed seems to be making a world of difference. Unfortunately I'm having a striker injury crisis which I'm sure will cost me sooner rather than later.

Currently in a 3 way tie with Wigan and Carlisle (I'm top on GD) at the top with Preston 3 points behind.

Ian
01-07-2018, 09:49 PM
I'll persevere until the end of the season. has much changed for your team this year / have you changed anything?

I'm almost certainly going down. I have less fans than I started with. :face: I just don't have the strikers/Acc to seem able to make any decent shots and I don't know why every fucking goalkeeper is so far ahead of my attackers, even for the other "shit" teams.

Browning
01-07-2018, 10:03 PM
I've not really changed anything major. I focus almost entirely on the "Control" stat for every player and then Defending for Defenders (obviously), Defending/Passing for MF and Accuracy for Strikers, but Control really seems to be the key one. I like to have my 2 highest control players playing 1 in Midfield and 1 up front (even if he's not a striker) so that I can hold the ball up and hope not to lose it on my opponents turn (even better if I can draw a foul and get a Free Kick/Penalty). I have a Midfielder with high control who is getting games up front whenever my high control striker needs a rest and it seems to be working ok. I can very rarely dribble past a defender though, for whatever reason, and I've never even attempted a cross.

The sweeper seems to be essential too for mopping up anything that comes into the box.

As soon as I made the previous post I lose to bottom of the table Salford :D. But I followed it up with a 1-0 win over promotion rivals Preston. Thankfully Tripe returned to the team and the score sheet because we looked lost without him.

Crunch game away at Wigan next will take us to the half way point.

Sir Andy Mahowry

523 is apparently the best formation.

Also, the first 2 seasons or so after the first are such dicks.

Browning
02-07-2018, 12:22 AM
Better call it a night I guess, but I'm proper hooked on this season.

Made it to the Quarter Finals of the cup beating Wigan and Bristol City (who were the league above me) before crashing out on penalties to Reading after 2 awful 0-0 draws.

Signed a striker from Pompey named Newnham who is my new top striker in terms of accuracy. I could have sold Tripe for 4 times the price but decided to keep both and sold a lesser striker to cover the fee. I also sold a bunch of fringe players to bring in the best defender I've seen so far (57 Def stat). It means we have no depth whatsoever but our starting 11 is stronger.

We seem to be in a 4 Horse Race for the 3 promotion places. Here is how we stand after 17 of 22 games:

Wigan- 38
West London- 36
Carlisle- 36
- - - - - - - -
Preston- 35
Oxford- 26

So yea, I can't see anyone else troubling us. Would love it if one of those others would drop off though.

Newnham has bagged 7 goals in his 3 league games for us so far, but couldn't find the net against Reading in the cup. Tripe with his 17 in 19 for the season should be safe for our top scorer.... maybe...

Pepe

I had some success getting my wingbacks to make runs behind the defenders and then only have the 'keeper to beat. Might be worth trying if you have shit strikers.

Sir Andy Mahowry
02-07-2018, 03:40 PM
Finally got promoted to the premiership but I'm getting battered.

Sold my left forward for 2.5m and bought someone better for 1.5m but the transfer list is a dick. The best players are 5m plus and the ones that would help me aren't available when I have the money.

Getting mad cash though especially after paying to upgrade my stadium to fit 5k of my 30k fans.

Ian
02-07-2018, 05:42 PM
Mahow may have it on the flog-and-buy method of squad building.

I'm making some inroads now. Still in the relegation zone but three points off safety. A great escape might be ON.

Only just realised my 5 game run in (see previous post) includes games against all 3 of our promotion rivals. We've just brushed aside Carlisle 3-0 before stumbling past Westminster 1-0. Carlisle faced Wigan and lost that one too. We're now 6 points above them with 3 to play, but 2 of those are Preston and Wigan, and we have a massive injury crisis. Hopefully we can see this out...

Won promotion with easy by brushing aside Salford and then Preston. Unfortunately drew 1-1 with Wigan on the final day to miss out on the title by 2 points, but oh well, happy with 2nd.

Newnham ended up scoring 14 goals in 9 games for us this season, whereas Tripe bagged 18 in 24.

A whole bunch of my players earned bonuses at the end of the season, many more than I've seen in the past:

Tripe- 4th top scorer in the league and 10th top scorer in the cup.
Newnham- 6th top scorer in the League.
Staneven- 2nd most assists in the League.
Roebuck- 4th most assists in the League.
Wann- 8th most assists in the League.
Tabard- 2nd most tackles in the League.
Firebrace (who was fucking green when I signed him) 3rd most tackles in the league.
Colthard- 4th most tackles in the League
Carless- 3rd most saves in the League, 4th most saves in the cup.

Sir Andy Mahowry

Browning
03-07-2018, 11:26 AM
Of my list above Tripe, Roebuck, Tabard and Colthard were all sold in the summer which was basically the spine of my team. The new lot have won our opening 2 games though, including a win over "Big London FC" who are not only the best team in the league, but I'm assuming our arch enemies too. We won 1-0 with Newnham finishing a 1 on 1 when his chances were something like 58 Vs 122... what a man.

Browning
03-07-2018, 01:55 PM
"Second League" really is a slog. After 13 games (50%) by record is 4 wins, 6 draws and 3 losses with 9 scored and 8 conceded. Most of our games are 0-0 with my strikers having no chance of beating the keeper. Seems like mid-table mediocrity is nailed on.

Browning
04-07-2018, 08:15 AM
2nd year in the "Second League" and at the half way point we have one less point than we did last year (Won 5, Drawn 2, Lost 6, Scored 10, Conceded 14). The goals conceded is obviously the big difference. Skills seem so broken. My players still have none (or if they do, it's fucking shit) where as other teams tackle me with 100% accuracy, pass it straight through my team without using actions and then tap into an open net half the time. Fucking bullshit.

Starting to make some OK money though so hopefully in January we can try and strengthen.

Edit- Finished in 10th, 1 place lower than last season. It didn't help that our big money striker was injured for the entire 2nd half of the campaign and that Newnham really isn't cut out for this level. Having no one to reliably score goals fucked us big time. There were some teams, Bradford for example, we couldn't compete with at all (Lost 5-0 away and 4-0 at home). Luckily there were a handful of teams not good enough for the division where we could score almost at will.

Renewing contracts is getting expensive and I'm being forced to settle for 1 year deals a lot of the time. I feel we're slowly strengthening the team. Current 11 is:

GK: Sevier (78 defending)- Bought for 374,000, Spent 73,500 on contracts, Worth 553,000
Sw: Lovell (58 defending)- Bought for 6,400, Spent 8,800 on Contracts, Worth 113,000
Def: Clark (73 Defending)- Bought just now for 283,000
Def: Parson (50 Defending)- Bought for 21,600, Spent 10,900 on Contracts, Worth 121,000
Def: Austin (62 Defending)- Bought for 140,000, Spent 121,000 on Contracts, Worth 213,000
MF: Murch (79 Passing)- Bought for 335,000, Spent 96,800 on Contracts, Worth 418,000
MF: Armer (60 Passing, 33 Control)- Bought for 136,000, Worth 153,000
MF: Bew (50 Passing)- Bought just now for 55,200, small downgrade on last season which netted me about 50k
ST: Veale (42 Defending, 52 Control)- Bought for 133,000, Spent 100,000 on Contracts, Worth 154,000
ST: Gildersleeve (81 Accuracy, 42 Control)- Bought for 290,000, Spent 85,000 on Contracts, Worth 281,000
ST: Newnham (68 Accuracy)- Bought for 51,000, Spent 18,000 on Contracts, Worth 262,000

Veale is a defender but I play him up front for his control (highest in the team) to try and hold the ball up. It often fails at this level. Gildersleeve was injured so much last year it killed his value. Newnham may need to be sold to renew some MF contracts if he doesn't become more useful. He only managed 3 goals in 28 games in our first season at this level and 15 in 31 last season. To be fair though that's basically the same as Gildersleeve (8 in 15).

I feel like my way of playing currently is too simplistic. Basically get the ball to Murch, pick a long pass to Gildersleeve and then miss. I'm still yet to work out who the fuck crossing works, or ever have anyone on the wings to do it. I also feel I probably need to stick a Midfielder in goal to win the ball back, maybe.

I've no interest in evangelising games I love to those who don't but the game tells you almost everything you need to know. There's very little I've learned that hasn't just been me appreciating the practical aspect of something I remembered the theory of from the tutorial-y stuff.

No idea where “midfielder in goal” can’t from in my previous post, you can tell I’m sleep deprived. I meant a defender in midfield.

That said the third midfielder feels worthless so if I find a good defender may move to 5-2-3.

3rd season in the 'Second League' and we finish 9th again. However, we won the Prestige Cup! Unfortunately I didn't pick a sponsor with a high bonus for it as I didn't see it happening, but we netted 80,000 or so for the final. It means that over the 2nd part of the season I saved up nearly 450,000 but I've just spent most of it to increase capacity to 2000. It'll hurt us short term as that could have bought us a new starter and some increased depth (which we are desperate for) but long term it should pay dividends. We're improving slowly, but I can see us staying at this level for quite a while longer.

End of season Bonuses:
Newnham- 4th in Goals Scored in the Cup
Gildersleeve- 5th in Goals Scored in the Cup.
Murch- 5th in Assists in the Cup, 1st in assists in the league.
Veale- 6th in Assists in the Cup
Fuggle- 3rd in Tackles in the Cup
Clark- 6th in Tackles in the Cup
Armer- 9th in Tackles in the Cup
Lovel- Also 9th in Tackles in the Cup
Sevier- 3rd in Saves in the League, 1st in saves in the Cup.

Nets us a total of 71 points with the highest being Sevier with 23 and Murch with 19.

In our 4th attempt at this division we've had our best first half a season yet with a record of 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses with 12 scored and 7 conceded over the 13 games. If we could finish a few more chances we'd be laughing. We seem to only concede to skills or crosses, neither of which we can do well, giving the AI a big advantage. Still looking for the 5th defender to let us change formation.

Ian

Wound up finished 7th in our 4th season in the division, which is out best finish and we were actually in a promotion battle, but never looked likely.

I've just sold Murch despite his 83 passing stat because he was 33 years old and I'd soon lose him for nothing. While I could have held on a year, I had a chance to get a 22 year old with 62 passing for around £200k less and given he'd cost me another 150k to renew his contact, I had to do it. Gutting because he was a hero for us with so many assists.

Switching to a 5-2-3 even though the 5th defender isn't great. Veale, a defender who played his entire career for us up front, was also sold and replace with a striker who is better at holding the ball up than he was. He'll always have the moment when he scored a last minute winner against Pompey by dribbling past the keeper

Wish I had any idea how to do that....

5th year in the 2nd Division and at the half way stage the table is:

Bradford- 34
West London- 26
Sheffield FC- 26
- - - - - - - -
Birmingham City- 26
QPR- 25
Fulham- 23

I renamed all the London teams to who I assume they're meant to be (though for some reason the only team I can find that match Arsenal has been languishing between the First and Second leagues the entire time, not even close to the PL). I assume my team is Brentford, but I've not renamed them.

Ironically I had my worst ever start to a season with 1 point from the opening 3 games and then stumbling to a 1-0 over relegation fodder Chester, but we've improved dramatically and moved up to 2nd just now with a 1-0 win over Birmingham. We've scored 22 (Newnham actually outscoring Gildersleeve by 10 to 8) and Archer, the youngster bought in to replace Murch leads the league in assists.

So far so good. Not sure we're good enough to go up.... but being in the conversation is a first. Still unsure about the Sweeper because it leaves me exposed to the shitty Rainbow Faint, but seems worth it for the other contributions they make.

West London 2-1 Sheffield (We also have a 1-0 win over them in the first leg of the cup Quarter Final)

Just realised why there's no Arsenal team... I must be playing as them (though it's a bit weird they were called "West London").

I didn't realise the team you choose starts at the bottom, I figured that I was only given the choice of bottom teams, but guess not.

I therefore have no idea who "Big London FC" or "Kingston FC" are. The badge makes Kingston look like Wolves but it's clearly not. Big London is probably Charlton or Orient I guess....

Season has started with a load of absolute horseshit from the RNG.

In that last one I had three shots on goal at point blank range, 48 vs 26 (worst goalie I've seen in this division by a mile), every one a save.

They have one shot from range at 25ish vs my goalie's 48 or so and it goes in.

Your players are lacking BOTTLE.

Barely avoided relegation from the Third Division on my first go. Had to sell my very good 'keeper as his contract was expiring. Now I'll have to play a not so good one. Nothing in the transfer market to spend the money on either. :(

My team is looking weak as fuck. Avoiding relegation will be tough.

Missed promotion on the final day. Went to Birmingham needing a point and got beat by a fucking rainbow faint. Cunts.

Ultimately it was losses to midtable Blackpool and Reading not long before the end of the season that did us in though. We were in the promotion places all season until the last day.

On the upside, we've made the Cup Final which I can now go and lose.

Edit- Got raped 3-0 by QPR in the final. An olympic kick, a rainbow faint and the cannon one. Fucking awful.

Got 86 end of season point things with the highlights being Gildersleeve being top scorer in the league with 19 goals and Archer providing the most assists with 12.

Half way through my next season (probably my last with the epic strike force of Newnham and Gildersleeve) and we're only 1 point worse off than last year, but somehow 4 points adrift of promotion. The top 3 just never slip up unless it's against each other, so looks like yet more disappointment. We did however invest 1.2m (most of which came from making the cup final) into the stadium which has left us playing 2 green defenders in most games, but should bring us more reliable income to strengthen later, I hope.

Sold my 84 rated Goalkeeper who was 32 years old for about 1.6m and bought in a replacement who was 78 rated, much younger and only cost about 300k. He's the first good keeper I've seen in ages and I needed a younger one. Invested a chunk into the Youth Team but still have about 800k in the bank which we will add to before the next transfer window. It'll be the first time I have serious funds to play with. I could spend it now, but there's no one leaping out at me as worth it.

This is where I'm at. having a healthy numerical advantage for the RNG against an AI goalie seems largely worthless.

For me I mean, of course. The computer thrashes them past mine at a disadvantage for lols.

How much accuracy does your top striker have Pepe/Ian? I think Newnham was high 60s and that was good enough at that level. He’s improved into the low 80s now and still holds his own in the second. I assume you can still sell people at 34 but not 35, right?

Ian

I've got one at 62 and one at 54 I think. Need more skills to get them into position though. My AM with false kick and layoff pass is good for that. If I draw a defender out with FK then layoff my 52-CTR striker into the box I can draw a lot of fouls.

I'm fairly sure skills are completed rigged against the player. I've spent years teaching Gildersleeve rainbow faint due to how much the CPU rapes me with it, but even at the max level, his max roll is always 5 Vs 10 whereas the CPU never has that issue. To top it off, whenever I use it to go past a defender, 2-3 other defenders get an automatic chance to tackle him, but when the CPU does it to me, mine don't get the same chance (despite having that ability when people run next to them). Oh and my keeper has the 'reaction' ability which is meant to stop the rainbow faint but never does. Complete shite.

Ian

Unfortunately we only took 1 point from 2 games against Leeds and Wolves which should have been 4 points but for RNG fucking us over with ridiculously high chances to score.

With 2 games to go, the table is:

Cardiff- 55
Leeds- 51
Wolves- 51

West London- 49
Fulham- 47

Fucking hell.

We took on 10th place Southhawk and beat them 2-1 due mainly to me subbing off all my good players at 1-0 and 2-0 to rest them for the final game. Leeds slipped up to a draw putting us level on points.... but they were ahead of goals scored with our goal difference being the same. The mission was obvious.... complete gung ho against Blackpool. We lead 4-0 as Blackpool got the ball for what should be the final time (3 moves to go) but they didn't use all their moves, giving us a final chance. We picked out Gildersleeve who had already netted 4 times and the chance of him scoring was 95 to 8 or something similar. Of course he rolled a 2 into the keepers 4. I was almost certain Leeds would also win by 4.... but nope. They only managed a 3-1 win over Bristol and finally, finally we're heading to the championship.

The pressing need is to get younger in defense and up front. My current starters at the back are 34, 32, 33, 24 and 26 with the 26 year old being vastly inferior to the other 4. Up front Newnham is now 34, Gildersleeve is 33 and Parker who I use for control is 29. Newnham may well need to leave in January before we lose him for free. What a servant he has been.

First season back in the "Second League" and we seal our first league title. It came down to the final day with us needing to avoid defeat to Wolves (who have always beat us both in the Second and First leagues) to win the title, which we managed with a 1-0 win. As a result we claim the title with a record of 17 wins, 7 draws and 2 losses (1 to Wolves in the first half of the season, and a shocking 2-1 loss to Plymouth who went on to be relegated). We scored 39 goals (1 short of Cardiff) and conceded only 9 (5 fewer than Wolves). Cardiff and Wolves (who came down from the First League with us) also bounce straight back up.

Despite our dominance, only 4 players featured in the end of season standings. Stevens bagged 25 goals to finish 1st in the league, Archer was 2nd in assists with 11 while his partner in crime, Bone, came 4th with 7. Our keeper was top of the league with 38 saves.

Following the season I sold my control striker and Archer and replaced them with cheaper options, using the money to finally upgrade my stadium to 10,000 seats. I could have completely redone my squad with that 3.5m... but once again, long term, I feel we need the seats.

Half way through my second attempt at the Championship and my record is 7 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses (compared to 4-8-3 last time out). The big problem is scoring goals. We've scored 12 and conceded 5 over the 15 games. We have the best defense in the league, we just can't score anywhere near enough.

Somehow, we're 3rd in the league, 4 points ahead of 4th place QPR and crucially, 11 points above the drop zone (compared to 5 at this stage last time). We won't get promoted despite the good start, I'm sure of that, but staying up should happen. Taking nothing for granted after how we fell off a cliff last time though.

Edit- Crazy transfer window- I signed Jorgensen, a 22 year old midfielder with 86 passing for 811k (selling my current one for about 500k to offset it) and then sold Stevens despite him being the top scorer in Division 2 last year (he was struggling this year with only 4 goals in 15 games) for about another 500k, giving me the £2m I needed to sign Pillinger, a 92 accuracy striker aged 25. He'll be the longterm successor to Gildersleeve almost certainly (Gildersleeve himself is our top scorer this year with 7 in 12 having only managed 8 in 13 a league below last year).

Once again, the second half of the season collapsed compared to the first. We end up with 10 wins, 14 draws and 6 losses. We missed promotion by 2 points... which feels just like the time we were relegated by 2 points last time out. If we could improve slightly, we'd be promoted.... but oh well.

We earned 59 end of season points with Gildersleeve being the 3rd top scorer, Wildgoose having the most tackles and Skegg having the most saves in the league and 3rd most in the cup (impressive given we were out after 2 simmed games).

Learning to use the wide forwards (RF and LF) has made me so much better. Finally have a way to get in behind defenders. Whether it translates to promotion or not, who knows, but I feel we should improve in front of goal.

Ian
13-07-2018, 09:02 AM
I thought I had trained up a RF but it appeared to then not happen so not sure how I fucked up. An AM is good for getting the ball in behind, especially with layoff pass.

Browning
13-07-2018, 09:19 AM
The problem I find with Layoff pass is that EVERY team has a sweeper with insane defense and if I layoff next to him it's an instant tackle. Maybe there's a way around it, but it frustrates me.

Right now I'm convinced we'd win nearly every game if I could keep my main 2 strikers fit. Gildersleeve is able to get in behind with his Rainbow Faint/ability to move forward into open spaces for free and Pillinger can get in behind with the "break in" free ability. The issue is, they're both knackered all the time.

Browning
13-07-2018, 12:45 PM
After a 7-6-2 record last season at the half way stage was not enough to take us up, this year our record is 9-5-1. This is enough to put us 2nd in the table. We're 9 points ahead of 4th place Bradford. We have to get over the line this year...

Edit- Paid 200 "glory" to keep Gildersleeve until he's 40. I'm just not ready to move on.

Browning
13-07-2018, 05:11 PM
Once again my season came down to the last day to determine if I could earn promotion or not. We were cruising towards it until Gildersleeve picked up a season ending injury with 3-4 games to go. Pillinger was exhausted and so we basically had to soldier on with no striker for a few games, shitting out 0-0s until Pillinger returned for the final game. By then, we were basically up, needing to lose to relegated Charlton and West Brom to make up 7 goals to deny us. In the end we won 1-0 with Pillinger showing I was right to rest him and firing us up.

We finished 2nd with 15 wins, 13 draws and only 2 losses. We only managed 28 goals in 30 games (the joint least in the league excluding the relegated sides) but shockingly conceded 8 fucking goals all year. The 2nd best defense conceded 23. We bossed it there.

We only got a pathetic 9 glory at the end of the season somehow. Pillinger was 8th in goals with 14, Wildgoose was 8th in tackles with 43 and Skegg 10th in saves with 17.

The 2-0 was against also promoted Derby and was routine, but the 2-1 was fucking tough against West Ham.

I'm even tempted to use 'glory' to make my Olympic Kicker up to level 2 in the skill.... but not sure it's worth it when I could just wait a year.

Just beat Chelsea 2-1, only their 2nd defeat of the season

Game at Anfield just now, 0-0 and on my last turn but my striker was offside. Did a fake kick to draw out a defender just so he could nip back into the defenders space, picked him out and smashed it home to relegate Liverpool. Over the 13 seasons I've played Liverpool have won the title 3 times and finished 2nd 4 times with an odd 12th and 11th place finish in between some of them, but never been close to this bad. We did the double over them and Chelsea and took 4 points off Man U. Unfortunately certain teams, especially Tottenham, absolutely raped us.

2 games to go and we're 3 points behind Man City in the final UEFA Cup space. We survived relegation really early, but I don't expect we'll make it to Europe. Would be fucking nice though. We've improved a fair bit it feels and staying in this league, even if we don't make Europe, will do wonders for us financially.

Edit- Missed Europe by 1 point. :( Fuck you Man City.

Over 34 games we won 14, drew 12 and lost 8, scoring 39 goals and conceding 31. We banked 90 glory at the end of the season with Mauleverer (my 3rd striker who mainly uses the Olympic Kick) being the 4th top scorer in the Cup (in which we reached the Quarters and lost on away goals), Pillinger being the 7th top scorer in the cup and my keeper Skegg making the most saves in the league and 2nd most in the cup.

Second season in the Premier League and we improve from 8th to 2nd and a Champions League spot. We actually started really badly and I thought we might be in trouble, but after a few games something clicked and we looked unbeatable except for a few frustrating games where it just wouldn't go in no matter what we did. We ended up with a record of 20 wins, 11 draws and 3 losses with 39 goals scored (6 teams managed more, with the champions, Man United scoring 58) and an incredible 14 goals conceded (the next lowest was 23 by 6th placed Man City). It's still in front of goal where we need to improve, but we are getting there.

78 Glory was added at the end:
Mauleverer- 10th highest scorer in the league with 13 goals (he's actually my worst striker, but he has Olympic Kick )
Selth- 5th in the league for assists with 9.
Wildgoose- 2nd in the league for tackles with 50.
Skegg- 2nd in the league for saves with 41. 7th in the cup for saves with 3 (over 2 games as we were stunned by Championship side Wolves in the 1st round).

Absolutely fuck all on the transfer list once again, so I'll probably keep my 10m in the bank and save it towards the 22m stadium upgrade. I'll probably need to use glory to renew my Goalkeeper until he's 40 because I swear I never see any on the transfer list ever.

Can't believe Mahow won the title with 68 points. I have 73 points with 6 games to go and I'm only 2 clear of Man U who won't fuck off.

I'm also 5-2 up against Man U in the FA Cup Semi Finals, and 1-0 up in the Champions League Semis over some Turkish team. If we beat them, we'll likely face Man U in the final...

Edit:

Season ends and we win the treble.

League:
We ended up with a record of 28 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. One of the draws came in the last 2 games which I simmed after the title was won. We won it with a 1-0 win (Tyler with the goal) at Old Trafford. We end on 87 points to Man United's 82.

FA Cup:
After beating Man United 5-2 at home and 4-1 in our first league meeting, they created some fear going into our league meeting and Champions League final by beating us 2-1 in the second leg. It was still a routine win and we went into the final against Everton where goals from Mauleverer (Olympic Kick), Tyler (Rainbow Faint) and Pillinger (Power Shot) sealed a routing 3-0 win.

Champions League:

The hero of our league meeting, Tyler, opened the scoring against Man U in the final with a power shot after 22 minutes. Man United's danger man, Youngman, netted an equaliser after 40 minutes. However, the cup was sealed when Mauleverer smashed home an Olympic Kick in the 88th minute. It was a close game, but we definitely deserved it.

We earned a massive 212 points at the end of the season for the following:

Maulever: 3rd top scorer in the league with 25, 2nd top scorer in the FA Cup with 11, 9th top Scorer in the Champions League with 8.
Drapper: 7th most assists in the FA Cup with 2.
Selth: 7th most assists in the Champions League with 2.
Wildgoose: 8th most tackles in the League with 38.
Drapper: 2nd most tackles in the FA Cup with 11.
Jay: 5th most tackles in the FA Cup with 10.
Noirault: 8th most tackles in the Champions League with 14
Skegg: 6th most saves in the League with 22. 4th most saves in the FA Cup with 6. 3rd most saves in the CL with 12.

Wildgoose, Skegg and Gildersleeve are all on "glory" contracts until they are 40, but both Wildgoose and Gildersleeve missed basically the entire 2nd half of the season injured and we were absolutely fine. We just need to find a back up keeper for when Skegg retires, if I even carry on from here.

Promoted to the Second League in second place.

No idea how I'm liable to get on. Seen my first million pound player in the transfer list.

Nice work, glad this hasn't totally died.

I've been trying to decide whether I want to keep playing my save. Seemingly trophies stopped working for me at some point so I didn't get any for winning the 3 cups I won, nor one for the Treble, which is taking the piss. There is one for winning the treble 2 years in a row and while I think my team could do it, it probably just wouldn't work.

I briefly started a file on Hard but after getting thumped 6-0 or so in each of the first 5 games I decided I couldn't be bothered. Seemingly that's common, but yea, what a load of shite.

I assume on hard it doesn't make the AI smarter or anything but just make the RNG more of a dick?

I'm not sure about the RNG, but your starter players are utter, utter shite (like 8 for their best stat Vs players with 40) so you haven't got a prayer. You also have no money, no glory and no skills/position specialisations on players. You're completely out classed and supposedly it takes a few seasons to even begin to rectify it.

First game in Second League and....

The fuck is that shit?

That's worse than The Box.

Yea, I've set my defense up similar to that and in almost half a season I've conceded 1 goal which was away at Real Madrid in the CL (1-1 draw). Scored 31 and conceded 0 in the Premiership so far. It's too easy really, but I just want to get the achievements I was robbed of last season. Not convinced they're working still though because I've been using the Canon Kick deliberately for an achievement and it still says 0/5...

Are these the sponsor goals you're trying to get or Steam achievements?

I haven't had a single one of those sponsor contract things yet but in the demo they were regular even at low levels.

Steam achievements. I don't think you get sponsor goals outside of the tutorial in the demo, other than the ones they set at the start of each season.

I'm going to be pissed if I win the treble and don't unlock the achievement for doing it twice in a row because of the fact the achievements didn't work last season. They seem to be updating now, but it still didn't give me the ones I missed.

The follow up to my treble season was basically a replica. Once again was faced Man United in both the FA Cup Semi Final (winning 2-0 and 1-0 I believe) and the Champions League Final (winning 1-0 with an Olympic Kick). This time it was Bournemouth in the FA Cup Final (who also finished 2nd in the league) but we smashed them just as easily as I smashed Everton, and got all the steam achievements I was missing. Most of the ones I need now are exclusive to hard mode so maybe this save ends here, although I would like to play on until I earn enough money to complete the stadium achievement.
