The film Gravity. Complete and utter nonsensical, dreary acted, shit-for-brains scripted, vomit inducing, easy to fly spaceshiped shite.

However, I stunningly appear to be in the minority here. Stunning.

What generally accepted things don't you get/follow/understand...

Completely 100% with you on that one. Utter drivel.

I've not seen it, but a film about George Clooney and Sandra Bullock in space? Who would have thought that would be absolute shite?

Yevrah
02-10-2015, 10:52 PM
It's a good film.

The point, which I suspect (at least some of) its detractors missed is that its best watched in a cinema in 3D.

Me, for one, and I was wrong.

It might be a good 'spectacle' in 3D (I did watch it in a cinema, but not in 3D) but it's still a shit, stupid film.

Yevrah

It's a special effects funfair ride. You're missing the point of it if you're letting the wafer thin plot and implausible nature of it spoil your enjoyment (and as Lewis and I covered in the other thread with Interstellar, more realistic does;t necessarily mean better).

Giggles
02-10-2015, 11:06 PM
Shit, I got mixed up and thought you meant the steaming pool of piss that is Interstellar. I've never seen Gravity, though I never will after seeing cast/trailers.

Interstellar gets a worse ride with every passing day it seems.

Hot drinks.

Me too. I've never really given coffee a shot, it's never appealed and I don't want to become an addict. Tea sounds alright but I have no impetus to try it.

The only liquids I drink are water, coffee and alcohols. Coffee is on another level, truly incredible.

I don't get most movies. i dislike about 90-95% of movies i see. tv shows are fairly similar, though there are definitely more exceptions there. and finally, cheez-its

Sparkling water + flavored syrups. They're pretty ubiquitous in cafes, at least around here.

Spoons is too young to know/care about tea and coffee. I didn't drink them until I had a job. It's not something you generally do as a kid.

My life has become so much better since I started drinking coffee a couple of years ago.

Being able to get by on little/no sleep has never been so easy.

I probably drink more tea than anything else. I fucking love the stuff. Drank it as a kid too thanks to both my grandmothers. Old Irish women love their tea.

I had a cup of tea the other day, thinking that surely I must like it by now, having not tried it for 10 years or so.

Got through two mouthfuls before binning the rest. It tasted like rotting plants.

Coffee is the best. Five cups a day. I like the taste more than the caffeine effect.

Magic
24-10-2015, 01:59 PM
I prefer both equally. I'm quite in to the noncey teas now, though.

I can only have about 2-3 cups of coffee a day, normally just one. Tea though is unlimited.

A glass of water with a coffee is absolutely mandatory unless you want your breath to smell like a Serbian war grave and your teeth to look like a province of Guangzhou.

Of course I don'k drink instant, before the morons call me out.

I'd advise against this, I've got a Dolce Gusto but I much prefer my percolator.

Boydy

Home coffee machines seem like gimmicky crap. Those ones that you stick the sachet or whatever in and gives you a 'latte' or whatever. My aunt has one and I tried it and thought it was rank. Even the nespresso machines don't seem that great to me. My old work had one but I didn't like it that much.

I suppose proper espresso machines are far too expensive though.

Yeah I'd agree with this, I only offer my pods to guests. :harold:

A home grinder or percolator is the way to go.

I don't wish to upset Harold again, but you can get a decent espresso machine for about the same price as those things, if not cheaper. It's definitely cheaper in the long run as well, given it's much cheaper to just buy coffee beans. I have a Gaggia one I got for Christmas a couple years ago and it works really well.

Luca
24-10-2015, 03:59 PM
I've got one of those "pod-based" espresso machines at home, but it's one of the rare good ones. Lavazza Espresso Point; they use them on the Italian Eurostars, so they have to be quality.

Giggles
24-10-2015, 04:02 PM
Too much faffing and mess grinding beans. Pods are perfectly fine and there's no fucking about with them.

Again, it's a matter of personal taste though. Not wanting to ram my view down your throats as gospel or anything like.

Toby
24-10-2015, 04:07 PM
It does take longer, but there isn't any mess once you've figured out how to use it properly.

Boydy
24-10-2015, 04:08 PM
Can't you get a little grinder machine that keeps it all contained?

Toby
24-10-2015, 04:12 PM
I've never seen a grinder (hand or machine) that didn't contain it all neatly.

A good machine grinder probably costs more than the espresso machine itself though.

Magic
24-10-2015, 04:14 PM
Just buy it ground. Coffee shops do it for you.

Luca
24-10-2015, 04:24 PM
Giggles, there are also some coffee machines that have a built in grinder. You load the beans into the hopper and it takes care of the rest.

It's still too much faff though when I really like the taste of the pods. I done all that grinding before but I just use it for spices now.

Luca
25-10-2015, 02:32 PM
I'm with you, just explaining that there are options. The one machine I'm referring to (you load in a whole bag of beans at a time, mind, not on a per-cup basis) doesn't do as nice of an espresso as my pod-based one.

The bar I work in started doing 'cocktails' (it's just those shitty funkin' juices mixes with the alcohol added) a while ago and we got a load of those jam jar mugs in to serve them in which is ridiculous because we're a hotel bar in a rural town in Northern Ireland where the average age of our clientele is at least 45.

They could have saved the hassle as there's a brand out there that comes already in the jamjar. The local here has them.
