Unlucky for the two non-European sides. I'd have picked them to post an upset or two in another group.

Does Morocco and Iran have a single decent player between them? :cab:
-james-
23-05-2018, 02:14 PM
Morocco have some decent individuals, but overall they're both a lot weaker man for man than Spain. That Portugal squad really isn't all that.
It's more that they're both really well coached. Iran's defence should be one of the best at the tournament.
Had to check if Taarabt was still in the team. He isn't.
Remember when Taz/ Don so astutely predicted him taking the Premier League by storm?

Has old Hervey ever had any luck in competitions that weren't the African Nations, feels like Ivory Coast was the first time I'd seen him at a World Cup.

His record as a club manager is absolutely shite, which for me only highlights his tournament-winning genius all the more.
He's never been to a World Cup. Ivory Coast had that bloke last time, and for some reason Sven the time before that.

I do love those that crack the international style of management. They all feel like real enigmas.

Which player? I'm a Chippo man, m'self. Saw him score a goal of the month at Highfield Road against Spurs. Albeit in a 4-3 defeat or something.
Wrong thread but now I've quoted you what d'you reckon to that Bayliss lad? Looked good in the two play-off semis.
wullie
23-05-2018, 09:20 PM
I loved them both, but while Hadji signing for us made me believe that anything is possible Chippo didn't jump to Villa when we went down. Shout out to the lesser spotted Youssef Safri too.
Bayliss is clearly not long for our world, Spurs have been watching him all season apparently. Stevenson was the player we feared losing last year, he couldn't get in the team this season.

D'you reckon Spurs actually fancy him as a Premier League player down the line or is it just a punt?
Also I did consider Safri but the only thing I actually remember him doing wasn't at Coventry, it was that Norwich goal.

One of those where they'll buy him but he'll go on loan or play U-23s. Thomas, Harries and Stevenson have gone to Leicester, Swansea and Wolves respectively in the last year and the only way I see any of them playing any time soon is maybe Harries now that Swansea are down.
I think Bayliss could end up getting there eventually though, he's a slightly less poncy version of James Maddison.

I mean I regularly watch women's football ("i got black friends!") cause it's the only version we're actually good in (both Orlando and USA) but idk I can't imagine there weren't some former men's footballer who could do this as opposed to Aly Wagner (former US women's player).
Apparently it's the first time a woman has called a (Men's!) World Cup match in America. Woopee.

The 3 games so far a reminder of the desperate need for a World Cup Arab quota.
I don't like to listen to women talk about sports. I'd rather listen to a player who has played in the (Men's!) World Cup before or something, personally.
Loads of pundits have experience at the highest level and are thick and uninteresting.
Not that I am specifically defending any particular female football commentators but anybody convincing themselves that the lack of a functioning penis means you can't be as interesting or entertaining as, say, Thierry Henry is fooling only themselves.
Unless of course you actually think a Redknapp-esque figure describing a man kicking a ball counts as professional insight, in which case fair play I guess. It'd make my viewing of the coverage less grim if I agreed.

but anybody convincing themselves that the lack of a functioning penis means you can't be as interesting or entertaining as, say, Thierry Henry is fooling only themselves.
Nah of course, I just would rather listen to men talk about men's sport. I can't help this fact.
There's plenty of interesting women I'd rather listen to than plenty of other idiotic men. Hell, I'd rather listen to Susan Boyle on sport commentary than say, Alexi Lalas (American dipshit pundit whose claim to fame was playing a year in Serie A as an American) whose voice and "hot takes" grate my nerves to no end.
The woman on commentary hasn't been bad or anything at this point I will say again.

This has been great. Potential for it to massively kick off as well in addition to the excellent football.
Ronaldo to go into full hero mode now and start spaffing shots into the crowd from all over the place.

It really is great watching a game like this as a completely neutral fan and not even having a preference as to who wins. Happens so rarely as usually cunting Liverpool are involved in these.
Spain has been so great. Iniesta a bit past it but still donning it. Silva and Isco superb. Then there's Costa.

Only thing better than this would be Ronaldo with two late goals and going topless to offend absolutely everyone.

There was a spell just before the Nacho goal where he lost the ball in midfield. The ball got played around him a few times within a few yards and he didn't even move.

Andre Silva. Wolves have been trying to buy him for thirty million quid.

Hierro a right chump taking Costa off for that deformed midget.

I'm not debating he should have saved it. More like that even if it was a softer hit that went that way, he still wouldn't have saved it. His position seemed so off.

Given the rest of the group phase, Ronaldo could have the Golden Boot locked up before the knockouts if he fills his boots.

Glad no more yellows were given. The two yellows and you miss a match rule sucks balls.
