Huddersfield the only possible side to cause an UPSET probably then.

Something I was wondering about while watching Arsenal knock passes about like it's a 5 a side yesterday. Is there a reason big teams aren't allowed to use 4G pitches? It seemed to suit fast passing and I've noticed a similar speed of touch and pass whenever we've played on that sort of pitch, though that may be affected by the level of opposition you face on that surface.
Ever tried sliding on one of those?

Willian is so good. Conte's non-use of him is nearly enough to earn him the sack that he so clearly wants. It's like Chelsea must have an unfairly maligned by the manager wide-forward at all times.

Steve McLaren on 'The Debate' just now was talking about why Aguero doesn't get a game for Man City. Just let him slip off into anonymity and fully redden his nose.
21 in 22 for Aguero in the league. Had no idea his record was quite that good, even if it is slightly inflated by his recent exploits.

Unlucky Floyd.
United away. Woof.
Today couldn't have gone much better. Comfortable win and we couldn't have picked the scorers any better - one striker on his debut, another on his full (second) debut and a centre-back who's recently come back from heart surgery.
If we were to be picky it would be to wish Knockaert scored so that he could finally settle, be confident and happy this season.

Just seen the VAR decision. He was off. Strictly speaking.
Analysing things to that degree is a bit American - and fucking hell isn't this the only arena in which that phrase is valid. If it takes four minutes and a video review to work out if someone is offside then they're onside. The rule was brought in to stop Inzaghi's dad from just pissing about in the box the full game, not for this horseshit.
The lines on that VAR review (is VAR review a RAS syndrome thing?) were a bit good.
Also the BBC commentary at the final whistle was the pits. "The initials of FA Cup aren't all we'll be talking about, we'll be talking about V-A-R." Fuck off.

Decent comedy goalkeeping there.
Declan John to cut inside and score a right footed goal at the near post would be a decent bet here. The sort of game in which he excels.

This is a quality match tbf. 1-1, then the Hamilton keeper quite literally threw one in, and now it's 2-2 after 22 minutes.
It's a shame Daniel Candeias doesn't have much to his game. One of the few current players capable of putting in a good cross on a regular basis. He'd be in the Premiership if he was capable of anything else.

Some interesting stuff on Sunday Supplement about Pogba. Reckon they'll sell him to PSG in the end.
What were they saying? I've seen lots of "Oh well they're not using him right!" but very few suggestions about where it's going wrong. It's a shame, he's our best player when he's on it.
EDIT: Though now I say it, I don't think he's ever been "on it" during one of the really big games, though I may be being forgetful. We got better when he came back from injury though.

Jimmy Floyd
18-02-2018, 08:41 PM
They were basically saying:
a) his 'illness' yesterday was clearly bullshit and there's clearly some problem between him and Mourinho
b) he is being far too overindulged with regard what position he plays, and they made the comparison that could you imagine Keane, Vieira, Souness etc saying 'ooh I need to play on the left of a 4-3-3'. They then blamed Woodward and his equivalents at other clubs basically encouraging certain players to believe they are bigger than the club with all the social media and marketing bullshit.
Especially on the second point I fully agree.

Mourinho has replied specifically to the tactical stuff (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/feb/16/jose-mourinho-paul-pogba-leave-manchester-united-lies) which seems unlike him. Because he's clearly not.

Is there a point that those players in point b) weren't playing when everything was so tediously rigid, tactically? That's both a minor exaggeration and a genuine question, rather than a rhetorical one.
Did ANY player back then get excused / make the excuse of not being played in the specific position they really fancied?
When players were bought from abroad and they flopped they were just a flop. There weren't (the same number of) dickheads claiming that it'd all be okay if they were being played as an enganche.

Yeah, it's not like him to get quite that into it. Though he's been on a fluctuating meltdown since his second Chelsea stint so who even knows.

In fact literally everything you read about Paulp Ogba (with regards to matters on the pitch) was said by TTH about Gerrard a decade ago. Then Liverpool indulged him and he was arguably the best player in the country. Why the manager persists with his midfield two I have no idea, but building a 4-3-3 around him is hardly down to Twitter and money.

The media are complicit because their only way of pulling in cash is clicks, and morons apparently want to watch Neymar play football like a performing seal against a bunch of orphans in berets.
This Wigan-Man City game has actually been good and it's set up nicely for the second half. 0-0, City dominating and Wigan with decent counters, Delph sent off just before half-time, and the two managers shouting at each other down the tunnel.
The pundits showing how big club bias they are. Complete shocker from Delph and yet they don't seem to think it worthy of a red.

I'm trying to remember how often they shown us last season.
Now I have to go to Wigan on a Friday night to see us stink it up.

On Monday we had one national newspaper journalist (http://www.football365.com/news/spurs-are-busby-babes-shanklys-liverpool-and-fergies-best) claiming that Tottenham were enjoying a golden era to rival the Busby Babes, Bill Shankly’s Liverpool and Sir Alex Ferguson’s great swashbuckling Manchester United sides. He suggested we watch this great Spurs side – then fourth in the Premier League and now fifth – while we still can. Were City to win all four trophies – or even only two or three – it will not be Tottenham’s valiant over-achievers (http://www.football365.com/news/f365-says-spurs-soared-above-potential-humiliation) that we will tell our children about. Pay attention people, we may be watching history being made.
I'll be telling my kids about the time Will Grig caused Man City to have a massive chimpout for years to come.
This is quite annoying really as it probably means they'll be more up for the final on Sunday.

I've just seen someone on 5Live call that win bigger than the time they won the FA Cup :cab:
Yes a win over the same team in the fifth round at home is bigger than winning their only trophy ever.
Quality gap wise it is. It's an incredible result and they've knocked out three premier league teams already.

West Ham have been charged by the Football Association over a breach of anti-doping regulations.
"It is alleged the club failed to ensure its 'club whereabouts' information was accurate on three occasions within 12 months," said a statement on the FA website.

It's a bigger shock/upset.
The cup win is their greatest moment.

City vs Inter in the Youth League is on BT Sport. Half time and it's 1-1.
City have tried to play pepball, have had about 80% possession but created one chance all half. Inter are, man for man, about double their size and operating a 6 man deep block.
Inter goal came after their keeper hoofed it upfield and it ended up with the City keeper. He tried to play it out, got closed down and it flew in behind him.
City equaliser came from a penalty after Lukas Nmecha went down under the faintest of contact, which about sums them up
Mon Inter.

Jens Odgaard is probably Inter's best player but he has one of those weird runs like that one kid you knew at school. Looks so laboured. Probably because he's 18 years old and 6ft 2.
