Apparently he tried to join a Northern Cypriot team but it fell through as he failed his medical and is now a coach of Galatasary's U14 team as Terim felt sorry for him.

Tbh football clubs subject to huge TV deals should be doing exactly that with a lot of ex players who have fallen on hard times. I'm sure some do but the Nobby Stiles case threw a harsh light on United.

The sad thing about Eboue is the thing that drove him to bankruptcy were a divorce from his wife and his lifelong agent sueing him.

Literally the two people you're probably closest to outside your Mum and your Dad destroy your life.

It feels like the 'advantage' rule of common sense should apply in offside decisions.

Kane was offside and Liverpool gained no advantage attempting to cut out the pass. If lovren had controlled the ball and then passed it back, or after getting the ball under control then sliced a clearance then yeah, but I just don't get what benefit Liverpool obtained by catching Kane offside - aside from a stretching/shit CB clambering to clear the ball.

The bit that bothers me is that that the ref and lino didn't have a clue and opted for the penalty. Surely if the lino is saying he's offside and it's only a penalty if there's contact from Lovren and the ref doesn't know he should've ruled it offside. It's effectively a 'late flag'. The ref awarded the pen because he was unaware Kane was offside.

By the interpretation of the laws from the refs (which are batshit mental) they seemingly got it right, but they seemed to get to that point by guessing.

The officials worked as a team, it's what they're supposed to do. There's no protocol about who has to rule on something first. You'd end up with the cricket nightmare then.

'Marais: soft signal is goal, repeat, soft signal is goal.'

I'm still not sure they got the offside right. The reason Lovren is playing the ball in the first place is because Kane is there, in an offside position.

They didnt help themselves by taking so long over deliberating either. It's still good they got the right decision on the 2nd pen, that one was a good spot.

I've seen so many Liverpool fans saying that Jon Moss "confidently waived play on" as if that means he was 100% sure it wasn't a penalty. All it means is that he wasn't giving it at that point. It was an incredibly brave (and correct) decision to then go back and give it due to the extra information received from the assistant.

See, this I don't understand. Fans seem to harp on about how much VAR is needed, but apparently officials discussing the incident and taking their time is a bad thing?

That's not in the rules though. You can't just make up things that aren't in the rules because they feel right. Kane in that position isn't impeding Lovren's ability to play the ball, therefore he isn't offside.

VAR is pretty definitive. The problem I have is if you listen to their conversation they spend a good amount of time talking and solve nothing. The ref says as much coming away from the lino. I'm all for them taking 30 mins per decision if it means it's correct.

That's fair then. I personally prefer the old way to this active/inactive business.

Moss got the 'right' decision, but the process as picked up by the encroaching microphones was all wrong.

He says he doesn't know whether Lovren touched it, then asks 'Martin' if he 'saw' anything (survey says no), then just says fuck it I'm sticking with my original decision despite being told he has to be sure Lovren touched the ball (by admission no) or it's offside. Top work.

This is exactly the point I wasn't trying to make. Although I didn't do it very eloquently.

I think he's doing Zappa at left wing back today and Emerson on the bench. That's such a Neil Warnock-esque selection. Conte in a mass grave before midnight.

£100 on Conte substituting a full back. Would be wonderful to get odds on that.

Utter fiction. Was Conte being tactically miles ahead for a 3 month run over winter.

Board didn't back him (they will never back any manager in any circumstances) so here we are.

Jimmy Floyd

As for Crapayoko, think Conte just plays him as a protest.

He's the one who punted Costa, which was absolute lunacy. That's a major difference from this season to last.
