Considering all the lolling at Utd for spending £36 million on Mar-tee-al, I dunno how Chelsea have got off relatively bantz-free with spending £20-odd million on a left-back who warms the bench for Ivanovic.

EDIT: As the quite excellent Harold alludes to.

Azpilicueta has scarcely ever played right back for Chelsea and not looked all that convincing when he has.

EDIT: As the quite excellent Harold alludes to.

Rahman's a very attacking player and it looks like he's going to be used to give a more attacking option when needed. Given Ramires is starting over Hazard tonight, attacking isn't what they're going for.

Toby
29-09-2015, 06:35 PM
Saying that, Oscar, Remy and Falcao aren't even in the squad, despite Mourinho saying they're fit, so it's very possible that he's just lost/further losing the plot.

The former in particular has been the best player in the side since he came back.

Coefficients:

For 2016 we are 4 or so points ahead of Italy, which is plenty unless they go on to bumrush the Europa League and Juventus win the CL while English teams bomb.
For 2017 we are currently 0.15 points ahead, which is fuck all and will need us to do better in that (and possibly this) season.
For 2018 we are down to 4th with Italy passing both us and the Germans for 2nd. That can change a lot though as so far we only have half of the results which will count.

1 Bayern 3 - 9
2 Olympiakos 4 - 9
3 Dinamo 6 - 3
4 Arsenal 3 - 3

They'd then need 7/9 points from the two games against Bayern and the one in Piraeus.

Madrid seemed to score between eighty and ninety goals in the years Raul was playing, compared to over a hundred now, so it's probably a bit of the rest becoming worse, EL CLASICO monopolising the supporting talent, and Ronaldo being miles better than Raul ever was.

It'll be interesting to see how they both adapt their games in their thirties. Ronaldo I imagine will be a less mobile no9, but Messi's less obvious. You'd maybe say more of a playmaker no10 type if he were at another team, but Barcelona will always play 4-3-3 about 95+% of the time, so there isn't that option.

I think he was a good coach, as the new bloke obviously is; but Dortmund have a Sporting Director who signs the players according to their philosophy (lol), so what is he going to do with Liverpool's crap squad and the burden of having to renovate it? I think it's more of a gamble than people realise. Don't Swansea have a similar set up where the manager doesn't sign the players? 'Brendan' looked good there because he's a good coach, but then he went to Liverpool and spent a quarter of a billion quid on crap. That's kind of what I'm getting at.
