He also nearly won the league with them.

The new binman is a very well respected binman and may turn out to be just as good a binman as Klopp.

The theory that there may as well be a doormat in charge of these big teams, because the players are so good, kind of immedately falls down when you consider that the big clubs can choose the best coaches.

Yeah. 'Brendan' is a good coach, so if he has a squad with a brilliant world class player in it he'll do well (as would Klopp). But then when that player goes he'll waste the money. Liverpool can't afford to waste eighty million quid a year. United can. Madrid can. Barcelona can.

90% of money spent on players must be, largely, a waste of time. But fans would prefer to spend £80m a year on crap than be told there is no value in the market. There is no solution.

I think he was a good coach, as the new bloke obviously is; but Dortmund have a Sporting Director who signs the players according to their philosophy (lol), so what is he going to do with Liverpool's crap squad and the burden of having to renovate it? I think it's more of a gamble than people realise. Don't Swansea have a similar set up where the manager doesn't sign the players? 'Brendan' looked good there because he's a good coach, but then he went to Liverpool and spent a quarter of a billion quid on crap. That's kind of what I'm getting at.

Yeah but so do Sunderland.

Spurs just got rid of their guy that did that job (well, one of them). Not sure who does it now. Pochettino didn't have any say at Southampton seemingly.

It's been passed over to executive control almost everywhere hasn't it? They are business decisions and the clubs want businessmen (or their puppets) making them, not 'football men'.

I'm pretty sure Real Madrid for one now favour commercial considerations over football ones in their transfer policy.

I was seconds away from submitting it as 31 Sep, in case you'd like an extra lol. I just rushed it because there wasn't a thread and I wanted to post about the Chelsea lineup.

Wanting to post about that Chelsea lineup is the greater embarrassment.

They signed that Paul Mitchell and team from Southampton, so I think it's some sort of system where the manager outlines where in the team signings need to be made, recommendations from Mitchell and co. are made, Pochettino says yes, Levy fucks up the deal.
