Bit of a longshot this but figured it can't hurt to start a thread about it.

Football Glory (http://www.footballglory.com) is an online football management game. It looks like it was made in about 1997 and it's the most basic of games, but I really enjoy it. The Dugout's very own Challenger (remember him?) showed it to me ten years ago and I've played it off and on ever since. However I'm now back and fully-engrossed, managing the mighty Servette FC Genève (ayooo phonics). Last season I missed out on promotion from Division 4 by 1 point, so I sold everyone and bought a load of young players. I fully expect to come last in my league for the next three or four seasons, but hopefully as they get older, they'll get awesome and I'll climbing up the leagues with my mighty Swiss lads.

There are four divisions, 1 to 4, and some of them branch off into multiple tiers (like in Italy?) so it's as follows. One league for Division 1, where all the big boys play; then two for Division 2: 2A and 2B. Then in Division 3 it's split twelve ways, from 3A to 3L. Division 4 goes all the way down to 4X but you can only manage the teams in 4A to 4N as they cut some off due to lack of managers. Every league has 12 teams, so that's a lot of teams!

Now when I first started playing it, there were more managers than clubs, so they introduced Division 4. However, interest in the game has dried up a bit so there are a lot of teams without managers. I figured it'd be good if some of the good people of TTH signed up and had a play? It's really easy to join, get a team, and pick your squad. There is a league match every Saturday and Thursday, and there are friendly matches (or cup games if you're still in it) every Sunday and Tuesday. Every game kicks off at 11am and it's just an instant result, best team wins. Like I said, it's really basic but that's part of it's charm.

The players all have attribute points, not dissimilar to FM only it's very simplified:

Everything there's quite self explanatory, really. This guy's a defender as, as you can see, his tackling and marking stats are high. It's not rocket science is it.

There are no left and right siders or anything like that, either. Players are either a GK, a DF, a WB (fast and good at tackling?), a DM (good tackling and positioning?), a MF (good position and passing), a WI (good passing and speed?), a AM (good passing and off the ball) and AT (good off the ball and shooting). How simple is that.

So you have a squad screen and you simply pick eleven players (there are some limitations of what formation you can have, eg at least 3 midfielders, at least one goalkeeper, etc.) and then off you go. There are no substitutions, no tinkering mid-game, just pick a team and wait to see if you win. Doesn't sound like great fun, but it is when you win.

Players are judged by most managers off their "total," especially the younger ones. To find a players total you add together all of his attributes apart from his Stamina. For example the defender posted above has a total of 1115, which is pretty good. This total is then used to calculate his wages. Better players have higher wages. This player earns £85 600,00 a week. That's not bad, although he is 29 so not great. Players with over £100k are considered superstars.

The season lasts about 12 real-life weeks, so they're soon over, and at the end of each one there is an update. Every player ages one year, some retire, their attributes go up and so do their wages, old players stamina goes down, and each team receives between one and three players aged between 16 and 18 as their youth intake. At the end of each season, the transfer market goes absolutely crazy. The week between the last league game of one season and the first of the next one is the reason I love FG so much; it really is awesome. Last season was fun throughout the whole shebang too because I won most weeks and came so close to getting promoted.

So who fancies giving it a go?

I figured it'd be the most fun if we all joined the same league. As I'm a longstanding manager and don't wish to change teams for the forseeable future, come and join me in 4A. These are the teams:

So that's Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia, AS Douanes from Senegal, Denizlispor and Samsunspor from Turkey, FC Politechnica AEK from Romania, FK Obilic from Serbia and Tolima from Colombia. Oh man, if seven of you sign up and take over those teams, it'd be awesome.

Al Hilal look a bit average. They've 2 good 17 year olds, and DM and an AM, and a handful of decent (over 1000 total) older guys. Their best player is 29 year old Hussein Al-Bagawei (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=47363) who has a total of 1138 and very good stamina.

AS Douanes are in a similar situation, but their younger players aren't quite as good. They have three very good goalies though, and their best player is 29 year old Papa Seck (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=46624), who has a total of 1084.

Denzilispor are currently second in the league, after 2 games played, and have a couple of good 18 and 19 year olds. The squad doesn't have too many old players either, with only four over 30. And although he doesn't have the highest total, 27 year old Gunnar Wikström (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=47050) is their best player, with a total of 1169. They also have 30 year old Sigurjón Jónsson (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=46033) with a total of 1191. They look like a pretty good team. Whoever takes charge could definitely be title contenders.

Samsunspor have a big squad, which could do with de-cluttering, but there are some decent players in there. Their best one is 28 year old Arthur Worling (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=46391) who is head and shoulders above the rest with a total of 1144.

FC Politechnica AEK have an outstanding 18 year old in Norocel Apostol (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=56752) who already has a total of 653! They also have a nice small squad too, which definitely makes them the most appealing to me. The players aren't amazing but they've a very good 24 year old goalie and their best player is the 30 year old beast of a striker called Leonard Laurentiu (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=45495) who has a total of 1091.

FK Obilic are another team that suffers from being bloated, far too many players need shifting. However, they have a very good batch of 17 to 23 year olds, so would work out as a nice project to try and get a good youth team like I'm currently doing. They also have 28 year old Borislav Milosević (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=48281) who has a total of 1135. Could be a good team with all the no-hopers booted out, actually.

Tolima are a decent side and have three promising players, aged 19 20 and 21 respectively. They probably have the most players with totals over 1000 too, so definitely worthy title contenders. The best of them is 28 year old José Julián Cerquera (http://www.footballglory.com/players/player.php?id=46588) with a total of 1134.

The best teams to go for, in my opinion would be 1) Denzilispor, 2) FC Politechnica AEK and 3) FK Obilic, although they're more with a view to the future.

Some managers pay to play the game. The perks they get for that, as far as I know, are the ability to rename the players from your youth intake and the option to manager a national team. I've only ever had one paid season, ages ago, and I don't think I'll ever pay again.

If you fancy giving it a go all you need to do is register and choose your team from the Club Team Applications link in your office. It'll be first come first serve for everyone on here because there are hardly any new signups these days, plus there are stacks of Division 3 jobs available - but if you apply for those you won't be able to trounce my child side 4-0.

If you wanna be extra nice and thankful for this top, top post you could even sign up using my referral link (http://www.footballglory.com/managers/signup_info.php?id=9591) although I'm really not sure how it benefits me unless you decide to pay. Cheers though!

Oh, as a Baz-bonus too, if you use Firefox you can get the GreaseMonkey add-on and I'll share a custom script I made that shows player totals on the squad screen, and on the transfer list screen. It's top secret stuff though, so don't share it with the new friends you make on FG! :baz:

Also if you're planning on buying or developing young players this is the basis for absolute definite future superstars, that I use:

http://i.imgur.com/5NPnY7f.png

That's the player age and the totals. Those numbers are very high though. Take 20-30 off and they'll still be very good.

Even if only one of you decides to sign up (and hopefully chose a team in 4A) I'll be chuffed.

Too long, didn't read etc.

So it's a Football Manager ripoff then?

In the sense that you manage a football team, sure, but that's where the similarity ends. :cab:

Your goal is to win the league before 2005. That league win catapulted them into a 30,000 seater stadium they couldn't pay for leading them to be back in Division 2A by 2008. That's your goal.

In real life you'd sign Martin Petrov next year.

Xpert eleven sounds way better

Xpert eleven sounds way betterMaybe it is, but I haven't invested 10 years into playing that.

I had a brief go at something like this (can't remember the name of it though). In that one games were once a week for the league and then you had the domestic cup and possible European games if you were in your country's top division and finished high enough. Thinking back, it was actually pretty much a simplified version of FM, but all the teams were controlled by people. I got tired of it as you would've needed to invest a lot of time in it to actually be near the top as transfers and the likes took a lot of time, well the bidding process did.

Yeah a few years ago I played something similar called Trophy Manager. It was pretty fun but as Pen said you need to invest a lot of time in it so I stopped playing. Actually tried it out again a few weeks back out of nostalgia, but they've changed it a lot (for the worse imo).
