Phoenix, Vdubt25, Genesis, UK Turk (used to be good, dunno about now).

There's so many though, once you've got SuperRepo and Metalkettle it's more about working out what you want from Kodi.

Danny

I added Sports Donkey the other week as I was having issued with vdubt and Phoenix.

Ian, its described as 'Kodi™ media center, formerly known as XBMC™ Media Center, is an award-winning free and open source cross-platform software media player and entertainment hub for digital media for HTPCs (Home theater PCs).'

Basically allows you to stream to most devices. I use it on my Fire TV in the pool/game room.

That's it, it's basically a high end aggregator of streams. That makes it sound shit but it's the freedom of just surfing through and finding something rather than just searchi specifically for things.

As above, you don't need to download individual films or episodes or find football streams.

I've cracked it today with Samadini help and I can't recommend it highly enough.

You can get it loaded on Amazon fire sticks.

Samadini
26-09-2015, 03:30 PM
How does it help there?

And what does my tv need to have for me to be able to stream to it?

To put it simply it turns your folders into your own little Netflix. As long as the file naming format is decent, Kodi will fetch metadata and art and make things more pleasant. It's not a game changer. but I like it a lot. It's very easily customized and turns the normal directory layout into something like this:

http://kinkeadtech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Genesis-Add-on-for-XBMC-and-Kodi-Banners-1024x539.png

or

http://www.htpcbeginner.com/images/2015/03/aeon-nox-best-kodi-skin.jpg

One key benefit is being able to control it all on a smartphone with a really good app, which lets you either browse the libraries on your monitor as normal, or do it all from within you phone with a similar layout.

To get it streaming on your TV, you'll need something like a Chromecast (I use a Raspberry Pi), then it's just a case of downloading apps.

As for the quality, I watch the main games of the day in HD every week. I don't really watch much TV so not much of a clue on that front, but if you download Genesis you will have HD streams to pretty much any TV show the day after it's aired, if watching it live isn't required.

Went some disabled blokes house (spina bifida) today and he was all set up with streaming and stuff. Recommended me a movi box (or something?) and use Showbox. I assume he's a noob and Raspberry Pi with Kodi (with this fancy Beast mode on, natch) is the real winner, right?

Also, this Genesis you lot are using. Is that for streaming films and TV?

Boydy

Yeah, Genesis does films and TV. You can add Showbox to Kodi as well.

Is there a way to 'save' TV shows so you don't have to go through all the menus again to find what you were watching before? I added one to my favourites in Genesis but I still have to go to videos - add-ons - genesis - favourites to get to it. Is there no way to make it easier to access?

The best I can suggest is when you are in Genesis and you select 'My Genesis' highlight 'Favourite TV' and press your menu button ( The C button on a keyboard) then select add to favourites. This should be accessible from the Kodi home screen by clicking on the star on the bottom of the page

Official Kodi Remote.

Little bit of setup but not much, you'll work it out.

How do I get the keyboard up?

Also does anyone know of a remote app that will work on the android home screen, or a way for it to automatically boot to Kodi rather than having to faff about with the cheapo remote that came with my box?

Boydy
01-10-2015, 06:35 PM
Is it Kore? The keyboard just comes up when you're in a menu that requires it. Like if you select search, the keyboard on the app will open up for you to input the text. At least it does for me.

What do you mean with the second part?

Baz
01-10-2015, 06:41 PM
Must have just not realised I needed it on whatever screen I was on then.

The second bit: I've got one of them android boxes set up but when it comes on I have to use the crappo remote to launch Kodi before I can use my phone to control it. Would be good if there was an app on my phone that controlled everything, so I could sack off the remote control.

No idea, I should have said 'used' to be fair and I did the same as you, just used the first one that worked. I had an iPhone for a while and just used the official XBMC remote on iOS, then when I got my G3 I used Yatse, but once I put Kodi on a Raspberry Pi I was able to enable it as a CEC device and just use my TV remote to control Kodi.

Had it programmed on an RTI remote for a while, but I don't have enough devices to justify a control system, once I buy an AV receiver I'll probably get back on the RTI remote.

Would people suggest I add "super repo" and then pick and choose a few addons?

Which 'four or five' would you say, Dark Soldier?

From my experience I'd say Genesis & Phoenix, at least.

Dark Soldier
04-10-2015, 06:06 PM
Genesis, Phoenix, vdubt (which has gone to shit recently) are the only three I really use, but I also have RobinHood Project for back-up Acestream and other links, BBTS for general back-up, and Uk Turk which is hit and miss but has a ton of stuff (stand-up, obscure old shows etc).

I really can't stress how good Acestream is if you have an alright internet connection, it gives the best streams. It can be a ballache to set-up, but if you search 'Acestream Kodi' in Google there's multiple guides. May take an hour or two of fucking about before you get it going though. Plexus is generally required for it, as is P2P streams.

Or you can just use VLC for Acestream, and search whatever channel the game is on in Google, aka 'Sky Sports 1 Acestream', then copy the hash link into VLC and play it. Feels more stable via Kodi though.

Phoenix buffered like a bitch and then just completely gave up after about 1 minute.

PayPal, it's a bit dodgy yes.
They've set it up so its all running from Canada, there's a forum with streams and stuff on and a second forum with nothing at all on it. You pay the forum with nothing on for access and then they make your account on the streaming forum able to access stuff.
Very dodgy but done in a way that at least makes it seem safer, like I don't pay the streaming site for streams directly.

The quality is something that needs to be seen to be believed.

Download Community Portal - has all the adds-on you need. Can arrange by popular, newest, genre etc.

No need to add sources again

Maybe they're better now but I bought a box like that before which was basically a large tablet interface on your TV screen that didn't work properly with the remote.

My stream is shite today. It hasn't been very good since the Phoenix bit disappeared from inside the Phoenix add-on and I had to switch the the Staael one inside the Phoenix add-on. Annoying.

My Uncle put Mobdro on my tablet the other day which showed the football well, but I don't know how to get it on my laptop or pc.

I am getting a TV soon and want to run Kodi on it. What do I need?

Already have that, what else?

An Amazon Fire TV stick or a Raspberry Pi are the cheapest options, I believe.

If you have a PC or laptop you keep near the TV or are happy enough to hook up when you want it, you could just use that.

Will the Roku stick work? Might just go for that Amazon stick. Rather not have to use my laptop.

Cheers. I guess I'll go for the Amazon stick then. Does anyone use it and does it work well?

I downloaded Kodi for my PC but don't have a clue how to download things so I can watch the football. I've read this thread but am none the wiser.

I just got that Beast thing and it works well but I've never used it for watching football.

My mate does, he cancelled Sky because of it.

He bought it preloaded but he said if he was to do it again he'd buy it standalone and side load it on himself.

Roku/Plex is a bag of shit now.

That's settled then. If it doesn't work I am showing all of Magic's posts to his wife.

I have an M8S android box with The Beast on my Kodi.

Sometimes it is annoying but 85% of the time I can get a HD stream of whichever game I intended to watch - and have only missed one Liverpool game this season, due to being at work.

And if it does presumably some sort of cartel assassination is on the cards?

I just downloaded SuperRepo and then Pheonix and found all the British sports channels, but the picture was crap.
