I hope Pulis sees sense and doesn't go with Polish Man, Barry and Livermore as the midfield 3. Maybe krychowiak and barry with mozza as the #10. And Nyom at right back and Brunt/Gibbs left back.

Jimmy Floyd

I'm surprised Gibbs went there, I hadn't noticed him being 6 foot 5.

Sociedad to turn Madrid over on Sunday night.

Aye, he might have signed him but at Brighton we went with Craig fucking Dawson at right back and moved right-back Nyom to left back. Never change, Tony.

The man hates left backs.

Jimmy Floyd
15-09-2017, 02:12 PM
Left backs are brilliant. Full backs in general are my favourite players actually. Them and pure goal poaching strikers.

igor_balis
15-09-2017, 02:16 PM
Agreed. On the latter, watching Kevin Phillips take apart the Championship 8 or so years ago was a bloody joy to watch, and on the former, Igor Balis is a cult right back we had in the early 00s.

Clarke Carlisle's gone missing, apparently. I thought he was hit by a train or something, or was threatening to jump in front of one? Have I totally made that up?

It's beyond me why BT keep putting Sutton on our games.

Their advert for whatever their new panel show is with Sutton and Savage furiously bantering seems to be designed to showcase what insufferable bellends they are.

John

Ally McCoist being told he needs to 'get out more' because he knows that Argentina are struggling to qualify for the World Cup is a new low in the gleeful ignorance of our football coverage.

This Bournemouth v Brighton game is a sad, sad spectacle. Bournemouth are going down and probably not getting 30 points. Brighton, meanwhile, are approaching the game as if they're San Marino and any foray into the opposition half is cause for a national holiday.

Weaver
15-09-2017, 07:50 PM
All 22 players look scared to take a risk, so far. Defoe/King have no chemistry as a strikeforce and Hemed/Gross are doing exactly the same as each other.

No added on time at the end of the half sums it up.

Eddie Howe looks like a cross between Zac Goldsmith and Tommy Robinson.

:D

There can't have been many more toothless teams than Brighton knocking around the Premier League years. I still can't believe they managed to score last week, let alone put 3 past a "Tony Pulis Team". Desperately need an actual striker, bless old Hemed. Maybe Izquierdo can speedster them something from the game.

I really like Solly March as a player. One of those who I've seen play in about 20 different positions and always done a good job. England could, and do, do worse.

Is Jamie Carragher Ibe's agent or something? I'm not having this 'Jordon' rubbish. Dele Alli can fuck off with it as well.

I'm curious as to where you've seen March play Jim, not that he isn't decent. He's featured for England in age group games I think.

On telly a lot last season, and once live randomly (which is worth TV 5 games for appreciating a player like that).

As for Dele Alli, I see he's been signed by Mendes, if he couldn't come across as more of a colossal arsehole that will make him do so.

I meant more positionally.

Brighton's route to survival is figuring out how best to obtain corners, as that's about their only attacking threat. I dread to think what it'll be like when we're down there in early December. Triple captain Dunk for that one.

Reg
15-09-2017, 09:04 PM
Shame, as we were alright the first hour. We hadn't created much but neither had they. Lost the plot a bit for the last half hour.

The huge downside of Dunk's block-happy style is when he goes diving in like a melon for the equaliser.

I reckon I've seen him on both flanks, in the centre of midfield and at right back, though it's possible I've imagined some of those.

I think they'll just about, and I mean just about, stay up. Unlike Bournemouth they're not going to get fisted in every away game.

Reg

I think you may have merged him with another player. The 'both flanks' bit is right, and he's been used sparingly behind the striker. Definitely an exciting player.

Yeah I like him too when I've seen him. They have another wide-ish player I've liked when I've seen him, although it's been very few and far between. I think he might be called Murphy.

Hard work doesn’t really make up for a complete lack of goals from your lone striker. He’s good for a big cheer from the crowd when he runs really hard and barges someone off the ball, but he’s probably not good enough to start at this level.

I see your point, but I think that kind of player can work in specific circumstances. It worked with us, because

a) our midfielders bombed forward and scored a lot of the goals, especially the wide players

b) once Long had knackered defenders for an hour, we could send on bloody Lukaku to take advantage

I was only half paying attention, but I think what happened was: co-commentator waxin lyrical about Southampton midfielder, commentator says "yeah he was left out by De Boer in his last game" errrr, that's Crystal Palace not Southampton. Then he realises his error, and corrects himself by saying he was getting confused with Ward-Prowse. Also a Southampton player.

This Palace team is just packed full of players who need to be taken to the knacker's yard. Andros Townsend is another one. If my decision making was as bad as his, I'd be dead.

Andros is a player I always thought was shite. Liverpool: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Klavan, Robertson, Can, Milner, Salah, Coutinho, Firmino, Sturridge.

Whenever you see Sturridge on the team sheet for Liverpool at home you should lay the fuck out of them. At the very least you'll be able to trade out for a profit when they're toiling in the second half. He really isn't suited to dealing with a parked bus.

Lascelles will get all the attention at the back with his match winning goals, but Clark is turning into one of the best signings we've made for ages. He's genuinely really good and clearly a leader, but seems happy to let Lascelles grow into that role, doesn't seem to have an ego about him at all. Exactly the kind of player the team had been lacking for a while.

Weaver
17-09-2017, 10:32 AM
Are we thinking Lascelles and Clark are going to carry on at CB then? The first game was Clark and Lejeune, and actually I've been impressed by Mbemba in the games I've seen too. Nice problem to have, I guess.

Samadini
17-09-2017, 10:39 AM
It's definitely an awkward one as you'd think Lascelles is the weakest of the bunch, but you can actually see him improving all the time, he's clearly being coached well and working hard (can't remember the last time we've been able to say that about players in a Newcastle side) and obviously he's captain.

Benitez dropped Mbemba after the Wolves game last year and seemed to hate him after that, I read it was down to Mbemba ignoring instructions, but he was good when brought back for the run in last season and has done well here out of position, so might have won back some trust.

As you say, nice to actually have that problem, rather than worrying about which shitcunt is going to fuck up each week. Will be interesting to see who will play the most games.

I don't want to jinx Clark. When he signed, all I could remember him for was own goals. Remember when we went years without scoring from corners? Lascalles is the player Steven Taylor wanted to be. Our run of fixtures looks decent, too. Might be nicely positioned when we go to United in November. I'm getting ahead of myself. Great.

Would it be as good as the Darren Fletcher one? There was a period of about three years at United where Fletcher was first to celebrate with / jump on the goalscorer what seemed like every goal United scored.

There has been a whiff of Sunderland about them since some time last year (I would like to put it on Alan Pardew dancing, but it probably pre-dates that), so what a don Big Sam is.

Is Sigurdsson playing alongside Schneiderlin here? Looks like a front three of Sandro with Mirallas and Calvert Lewin.

Why won't gaffers drop their back three systems in games like this? Pochettino had everyone in the Swansea half for the last 20 minutes yesterday, but he wouldn't take off any of his back three and then they had Dier mopping up in front. Should've lobbed Dembele on, and Koeman should stick Besic or someone on for Williams, so Sigurdsson can get involved up top.

I'm sticking to my unbeaten shout. They have the best shot stopper, the best defensive coach and enough not shit players going forward that they shouldn't fail to score very often. That said, losing Pogba for this length of time is a big blow.
